Just the sheer amount of epic battles you could have in HW2 (on and offline) were immense! Only thing that it can be compared to would be SupCom (one and forged alliance) for level of awesomeness.

Actually thats not fair, I am glad you brought up Imperium Galactica because I love that game too but it had less focus on a story driven campaign and laid back on having 8 different races to play and less of a focused RTS experience and more of a X4 experience with diplomacy etc.

I wish I could comment on Haegmonia but I havent had the pleasure of playing it unfortunately. :( Since the space scene is a bit dry these days I might look into it. (eve online is getting expensive to maintain, Stellar Impact is another DotA clone and Space Pirates and Zombies was good for a while but got stale relatively quick.)

Eve online is an incredible game when you float around in an Absolution pew pewing (Amarr Victor here) but again... For the commander the game plays a bit like an RTS but the lag in 0.0 stops it from taking the top seat for me :( I've seen a fleet of titans drop and crash the grid so we cannot lock anything up. (Northern Coalition = lots lag)

Time Dilation slows down your client and essentially makes everything happen in slow-mo. The point of this is to slow down the system to a level the server can handle. It also distributes the slow down equally to everyone and means that there will no loner be lost packets that result in guns that won't turn off or warp commands that never go through.
I randomly found myself here after looking at videos of Freespace 2, and was very glad to find this awesome video, plus the bonus of the song that made me fall for Muse. (Funnily enough, it was a performance in which they used a back drop of a map of the stars that made me decide I love Muse). Never played this game but I love the editing, looks very good. :)
i really liked homeworld 1. the sequel was way too hard for me though, couldnt complete the levels without a strategy guide. That may be just my noobiness but i would have really liked to have an "easymode" to get into the game and learn it better..

Haven't plated HW in a few years, saw this video, installed HW2+complex and to hell with everything! Getting a release date for Homeworld 3 would feel like winning a lottery.
I think for the very last explosion you shoul've used the end of the bentus. then it would confuse people seeing it reapear in the credits xD Very good video. The audio is very distorted in some places but can't blame you on that. great game.
@EasterThisEgg same here ;-) i immediatly reinstalled hw2 + complex and will now take HOURS just watching amazing battles...even after this many years, no other rpg rts or shooter did what hw2 did: creating situations so amazing, that you barely can do anything other than watch the battles or even just the mining operations with open mound and goosebumps on your back! :)

Try Eve Online. If you can get good enough and become a Fleet Commander of a major corporation, it's like Homeworld but all of the units are HUMAN PLAYERS, and you could get into battles with several hundred ships a side, possibly even a thousand a side. It won't be easy, but there's nothing like it.
@paisis123 True, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I was a very avid fan of the three Homeworld games and Hegemonia Legions of Iron, so I'm well aware of the gameplay. I have only once ever been involved in a large fleet battle in Eve, and even then it was a relatively small one (our force was 100 or so ships).
It was INTENSE. The level of tactics involved, the ferocity of combat...Completely obliterated Homeworld, Hegemonia and any other RTS I can think of.
i personally thought sins of a solar empire was better because i like rts games that take a while before u have build up your empire. But this still is one of the top 3 space rts games

problem with this game is that you can bomber spam and pretty much rape everything, since bombers cost next to nothing and capital ships don't have much point-defense weapons. mods however, made this game incredible.
I don't know if Homeworld is the best game ever. It is however the best space RTS ever. Many have since tried to copy that what made the Homeworld series great and they all failed.
The atmosphere of the game Hw games is unique. The ship design is exceptional, mouthwatering and unequaled, so is its use of music, fluff and storytelling.
If I had to name one space RTS game I wish for, it would be Homeworld 3.

nice game, have to get used to a few things: if I move left it goes left, if I move up it goes forward?!?!? Then Iike an acrobat have to move around searching the right point of view.
Then also I always have to switch from the sensor view back to the normal and back to sensors. Don't understand why it isn't possible to zoom out decently

The plot was excellent, but if you want a truly stunning game I may recommend X3: Terran Conflict. :) Not a RTS, more like a single player version of Eve Online.

@Urban202 use battle tactics...ship formation is REALLY important in this game..and u always need to have a support units at ur disposal in case if all else fails...and dont waste ur money in frigates..frigates become less useful when you go further in the game...youre best bet and probably ur best fighters would be the bombers..the more fighters you have in ur arsenal the higher the chance you would win..last but not the least always upgrade ur fighters and bombers it help A LOT

Space Pirates and Zombies is great but it doesnt quite scratch my itch for something like the homeworld series did.

i personally thought sins of a solar empire was better because i like rts games that take a while before u have build up your empire. But this still is one of the top 3 space rts games

I'm working on an animated sci-fi film, and the first scene is a big space battle. After watching this vid, I'm going to ATTEMPT to make something as good as this vid. I know it's just a game and not a movie, but FUCK! THAT WAS AMAZING! I'm going to have to start playing this game. Then I'll never get any animation done!

problem with this game is that you can bomber spam and pretty much rape everything, since bombers cost next to nothing and capital ships don't have much point-defense weapons. mods however, made this game incredible.

I don't know if Homeworld is the best game ever. It is however the best space RTS ever. Many have since tried to copy that what made the Homeworld series great and they all failed.
The atmosphere of the game Hw games is unique. The ship design is exceptional, mouthwatering and unequaled, so is its use of music, fluff and storytelling.
If I had to name one space RTS game I wish for, it would be Homeworld 3.

I'm beginning to play now... with 400 watt subwoofer the sound of engines is VERY loud!
nice game, have to get used to a few things: if I move left it goes left, if I move up it goes forward?!?!? Then Iike an acrobat have to move around searching the right point of view.
Then also I always have to switch from the sensor view back to the normal and back to sensors. Don't understand why it isn't possible to zoom out decently

Beautiful. Although bummer the dreadnaught didn't make it into your video, that I noticed anyway. I haven't played HW2 in quite a few years. The plot was excellent, but if you want a truly stunning game I may recommend X3: Terran Conflict. :) Not a RTS, more like a single player version of Eve Online.

And too: We want HW3!!!!!!!!!!! It's about f******* time for that!!!
But one game is also an milestone for eternity: Conflict Freespace 2!!! I prefer Strategy Games, so Homeworld is my favorite. But this Game is also genial... If you won't believe me, try it out...

YES WE WANT HOMEWORLD 3. homeworld 1 is the best, the single player storry is butiful, and you have lots more freadom, and homeworld cataclysm was also nice but i did not like the beast. i liked the sistem that you ware abel to gain stars for unites that survive longer so that units gets stronger, so you want them to survive. i love homworld and in 1999 the first game came out it was far ahead of its time.

There has been speculation supported through various sources that Relic has re-acquired the rights to the Homeworld franchise from Vivendi. THQ confirmed that Relic indeed owns the trademark again, making a continuation of the series under THQ's lead possible. However, no comment on future installments was given. SOURCE google. expect a homeworld 3 soon..but not for awhile..

@Urban202 use battle tactics...ship formation is REALLY important in this game..and u always need to have a support units at ur disposal in case if all else fails...and dont waste ur money in frigates..frigates become less useful when you go further in the game...youre best bet and probably ur best fighters would be the bombers..the more fighters you have in ur arsenal the higher the chance you would win..last but not the least always upgrade ur fighters and bombers it help A LOT
