  • Speaking as a fervent atheist this is not a bad rendition, although it would be better without the lyrics displayed as they keep reminding that the song's genesis is mired in the era of superstition before religion came to be recognized as the patent absurdity that it is.

  • @zippidydado-HATER, Don't you see the whole world give HONOR & PRAISE TO OUR CREATOR! If you don't like it, you shouldn't be in this segment . eres un patetico

  • Loved it...any time the Lord Jesus Christ is lifted I am blessed. Where are folks located...would love to hear you again.

  • Go forth and make discipals of all nations! amazing!

  • We sang this two weeks ago in my church..in East Africa! And the congregation stood up....and cheered their Creator. Thanks for posting

  • This is in Hong Kong....

  • You never think that asian can sing, like that, but they did really good, well done..Bravo;

  • Even if u are not religious or whatever God u pray to. This is still a musical masterpiece by Händel

  • is this Korea?, most of them are atheist !

  • I still don't understand why the audience always stands up whenever someone does this magnificent piece...

  • @bladebloodykill Because historically, when Handel first performed this piece as part of his Oratorio, it is said that the King was so moved by the song, he stood up. Well in those times, when the King stood up, so did everyone else present. And here, 200 something years later, the tradition holds strong :)

  • @NismahOsman Thanks so much for explaining! :)

  • is that man fooh?

  • 'George Frideric Handel is the English spelling, although I have seen Frideric with a 'k'. I love to see other nations singing this.'

  • HEAR - HERE IS THE ESSENCE OF EVERY PROPHETIC MESSAGE (aside from the details of extrapolating BIBLICAL prophetic truths and dreams) ...

"REPENT ! FOR THE HOUR OF HIS JUDGMENTS DRAWETH NIGH UPON THE EARTH! "

    "REPENT ! REPENT ! REPENT !!!"

  • Wonderful! To our Lord God all the honor and the glory!

  • How did the audience know about the tradition of standing up during the chorus?

  • @gavatar7 i think they're Christians too

  • Oh! how will angels and saints sing in heaven? How wonderfu!

  • music: the universal lenguaje

it doesn't cares differences between cultures around the world!

thank you god for this gift!!

  • music: the universal lenguaje!

amazing! it doesn't care differences of cultures around the world

    thank god for this gift!!

  • INCOMING GRENADE!

  • ok, who wrapped the mic in cellophane?

  • bravo...even over modulated

  • The audio made my cat cry. Whoever mixed that needs to be shot.

  • Best Handel's Hallelujah I've ever heard in my life! And that's saying something!

  • 25 LOSERS,haters. Thanks GOD for the believers!

  • Oh JESUS CHRIST whats a great Hallelujah Chorus i see.........

  • The audio of the video is not good but it made me cry, nonetheless.

  • hallelujah-one of the only words that means the same thing in all languages

  • Hallelujah !!! My God, my Lord, all man-kind Messiah, the savior. Amen !!

    哈利路亞 !!! 我的上帝,我的主,所有人類 Messiah,救主。 阿門!!

  • Hallelujah to My God, my Lord, all man-kind Messiah, the savior. Amen !!

  • Wow! Pretty stunning piece, and an awesome performance!

  • Formidável!

  • The story was when the King of England long decades ago sang this song, he took off his crown then he stood to declare the Kingship of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • What a beautiful performance !

  • Lol why would you "translate" a name? George Frideric Handel = Georg Friedrich Händel?

  • Excellent!!

  • amazing young people.

  • Bhorum has written here that everyone stands because this piece is considered a heavenly anthem. The real reason is that during the first performance, King George II of England suddenly stood up at the beginning of the piece. This meant that the whole audience and even the orchestra had to stand out of courtesy to the King. Perhaps his gouty foot was playing up. Perhaps he thought the National Anthem was about to start. Perhaps it was in honour of the "King of KIngs". No-one knows!

  • thank you for loading this. It is outstanding, awesome, raises goosebumps. No higher praise could be sung. Bless you

  • the worst audio quality, made in China, eh?

  • @berkati Yes China but in Hong Kong

  • thank you! To God only be all the glory!

  • Wow..I love this song. How I wish I could sing this song again. Great job for the choir.. full of energy

  • Está claro, los chinos se levantan por que no se creen lo que están escuchando: los de avantis han cobrado ¡¡¡aleluya, aleluya, aleluuuuuyyaaaaaaa!!!

  • One needs not be Christian to appreciate such beautiful music. I am an atheist, and this brings tears to my eyes :')

  • @dprice1291 if you repent and become Christian you will be singing and hearing 10x more beautiful music in heaven for all eternity. God does exist. On YouTube go to all the testimony of ex atheist and see how much they now love God. Be open minded and truly search for God he will come

  • These Christians have the audacity to sing this wonderful Christian anthem while under the threat of the Communist jackboots! This is equal to St. Peter telling the Jewish authorities that they killed their own messiah.

  • @temple26797 Hong Kong operates differently from the rest of China... At least, until 2047. Hahaha!

Beautiful rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus! =)

  • Amen! Amen!To GOD be the GLORY Forever

  • thank you waynecheung

    Lord God reigneth for ever

  • Though I don't *know* if this is Korea. I was just wondering *if*.

  • Hong Kong.

  • Are we certain that this is Japan? This may be South Korea which is, surprisingly, the most Christian nation on Earth today.

  • @GGtxt300 ?? really?? how's that? wow

  • @Phersephoie Yeah, kind of surprising. Lots of mission work in the early 20th Century followed by a hyper-militant neighbor I guess. Highest percentage of church going Christians of any nation on the planet. Not saying that's good or bad, just what is.

  • Yeah, great performance! What a pity that the audio quality is not that good. I dared to post a totally different version, remixed by myself in a modern hip-hop style to contribute a musical from far outside the concert scene. The whole thing seen from another point of view...

  • i can't believe that people in asia stand for the hallelujah chorus!!! such an amazing piece!!!!

  • Superbly done. Well well executed. Bravo and hats off.

  • Wonderful, I love it, it's full of energy and vitality

  • such a weak ending

  • they made a mistake by 1:34-1:40

  • Yes, Japenese are classical connoiseurs. They also know our composer Antonin Dvorak. Greetings to Japan

  • i live in the netherlands and i sing in a choir which also performs the young messiah(ton parker version)

  • the audio is a little distorted, but i can deal

  • God bless them. They did a wonderful job!

  • Gracias por poner este video es maravilloso

  • Ha, fireworks! Not hindered by good taste!

  • I find the Fireworks quite appropriate, and even tactful, given this performance was offered to an Asian audience (who like fireworks a lot), and in honor to "Fireworks" author (see above my explanations last year). In addition they were perfectly realized, didn't get in the way (or in the ears), and punctuated the music with precision.

  • I agree!

  • chinejii astia s-au europenizat rau..

  • EXCELLENT!!!

We used to sing this song for the 2nd time, this is really a challenging one.... great piece!, thanks to Goerge Frederick Handel..

  • Fantástica essa apresentação da orquestra e coral de Hong Kong...

    Espetacular !!!

  • Superb rendition! And to think that Handel performed this the very first time with less than 20! Wish he could have been here this night. Great Job!

  • upload a higher quality version bhut this it out of this world

  • By the way, this was a BEAUTIFUL video! Thanks for the post!!!! Much appreciated!!!

  • In the end, The ETERNAL and ALLMIGHTY wins! Plain and simple! JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!!! BOTTOM LINE OF BOTTOM LINES!!!

  • @flightofideas72

Excuse- but Jesus isn't the Lord.

    The lord is God.

  • Asians ? lol..why are they so wannabe westerners ?

  • OMG!!!! OMG!!! I love this!!

  • Human creation for the God, who created us...

it's a wonderfull melody...it makes me wonder how can human kind be so wonderfull sometimes...we are just creations at all?

  • this is a very good version. the male voices are clearly heard.

  • great piece of music. i can't tell if it was the recording or the encoding, but the gain is too high on this video.

-And god loves Christians, Jews, Muslims, everyone and even those that don't believe in him.

  • @TheSchoolWorld NO! Your 'god' (just for argument's sake we assume he exists which in fact he does not) is a total and utter bastard. I'd slap the asshole in the face.

  • GREAT - but the sound is strange

  • wow

  • GREAT

  • WOW!

  • wonderful

  • Best version on YouTube. Full orchestra and enough men singing. But I wonder how many in the audience knew what it is about - Jesus ascending his throne as King of Kings and LORD of Lords. Should also be sung at Easter when He ascended. Wish the video was a little better. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  • I strongly agree with your most important points. For the rest:

    1) I think most of audience perfectly and deeply understand this universal prayer

    2) New year is particularly important in Asia, for all religions, while Eastern is not as much as in Europe - which can explain what you (judiciously) pointed

    3) Has just been reposted in HQ, watch?v=sH52IKiTIlA

  • Well really the song is about the return of Christ when he sets up his kingdom on earth and reigns for ever and ever. This song would be the most fitting thing to play at that moment.

  • @KPACHNbIBLOOD Actually reigneth is present tense I believe but im not from old england. The time is fullfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand.

  • my high schools choir is singing this at Carly Simmon's house on Christmas Eve

  • Best version ever! The King for always!

The trumpet will sound, His arms will stretch

and He will say come up hither to His mansion

    in the sky.

I guess you beat me brother. I will cherish

our life together. I love you.

  • awesome..Praise the LORD...i miss my choir in the Philippines.., i love to sing this again..

  • di wickidest hallelujah eva!

  • This is so awesome! It was more than a performance...it is a taste of heaven and a taste of the glory of Christ. God bless you and Merry Christmas!

  • i love how these peopel have better pronounciations then some of the other vids on youtube

  • He shall reign 4 ever and ever...HALLELUYAH !!

  • The best classical music ever sung and the way to sing it. JESUS is LORD indeed.

  • funny how the church hated it at first

  • the church usually seems to be slow to accept "modern" music. which isnt a totally bad thing but its not good to reject without cause.

  • i think the church wants to make sure its still good in twenty years...not just a fad.

the last thing the church wants to be is trendy

  • Excellent perfomance...Subtitles were not needed! Spot on Performance! Wish I could have seen it live

  • Fully agree with "Excellent" performance, but I find the subtitles particularly appropriate (these holy words are plain, deep and beautiful), carefully done (text is complete yet rid of repeats, clear yet not intrusive on images) and helpful to us numerous non-English speakers (who would NOT follow them easily when just hearing).

  • ALELUYA!!! HA NACIDO EL MESIAS!!!

  • Excellent video, amen!

  • maravilhoso

  • THAT WAS AMAZING!!!

  • Hallelujah !!!

  • I actually sang in "The Messiah", and we sang this song.

  • very well done

  • Well done! very good

  • they are standing because this piece is considered as Heavenly anthem made in earth.. did you know that???

  • Don't you understand that this comes from Handel's Messiah? And was written for the King.THere are MANY other songs besides this one, including For Unto Us a Child is born, which is a direct quote from the bible In Isiah?STanding up has nothing to do with this song forever, they stood up for this song only because of the king. Once again people following tradition. Do you even know what Hallelu-jah means? It mean Praise-Jah, Jah is the poetic form of Jehovah, which is God's name. Look it up!

  • Standing up is due IMO to tradition AND music AND human instinct. First time, King stood up, so everyone did. Yet with a less stirring music, King wouldn't have stood up; even if he'd, others wouldn't. OTOH, even sans King and tradition, such music, so well performed, may IMO stir these thousands families here in Hg-Kg to stand up - in tribute to Handel, to performers, to God and to Human kind (no matter continents, religions or politics).

    Mon 23 Feb 2009 16:55 GMT

  • @bhorum NO they are standing because of tradition, the king was asleep, the loud opening notes startled him he stood up, people now do it.

  • simply amazing!

  • omg. the tenors are amazing.

  • God bless us all,and thankyou.

  • where's this choir come from?.... they sound good! i really like this song..... sounds like the gates of heaven are opening.... i wish that someday i can sing this song in the choir.....

  • stay in choir and you will sing it in highschool. i have never seen a highschool choir that hasn't at least tried to do handel's messiah. not all succeed.

  • I'm sure you'll sing it in heaven if you don't get a chance to sing it in a choir here on earth, the only difference then is that the king Jesus Christ himself will be sitting in front of you while you sing it. very moving performance. God bless

  • Thank you for your comment. I really like this Heavenly song and I want to sing it with all my heart to God.

  • my favorite songggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • Wonderful! Thank you.

  • Wow! These guys kicked a** & left a footprint. BRAVO!

  • This is a very good performance!!!

  • Spectacular! This is Divine. I love it.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Welldone and God bless †

  • niceee

  • I love this, Loud and bombastic - wonderful strong sopranos.

This is far better than the boring 'chamber choir' versions.

  • lindooooo!!!!!!!

    parabéns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bravo

  • espectacular!!!!!!

  • absolutely outstanding

  • podria alguien estar sentado al escuchar esta bellisima canción???es impresionante!!!!!

  • i got chill bumps the whole time its so beautiful

  • Wow, It Starts out very loud at the beginning. You should delete the the clapping at the beginning because it hurts my ears.

  • What a kickass ending

  • man, these guys can sing!!

  • This is really played with "Molto Molto appassionato". It's really they all just wanna rush to heaven ;)

    Good though, of course!! ;)

  • Did not need the fireworks at the end to be explosive. Simply uplifting.

  • Sure this was so enthusiastic and spirited (and technically perfect) that they needed no artifices; however they didn't hurt - and were even particularly appropriate in Asia where people fire a lot of them at New Year (of any religion).

    Sat 16 Feb 2008 19:34 GMT

  • I find it even tactful from this ensemble to fire Fireworks, first because of the Asian audience, second for Handel (who would certainly not dislike *Fireworks*!)

    Wed 22 Jul 2009 22:49 GMT

  • I this from Korea?

    Good job...

  • most likely from Hongkong.

  • It is definitely in Hong-Kong, 24 dec 2006 (ask waynecheung, he was singing in that choir that evening).

    Sat 16 Feb 2008 19:38 GMT

  • from hongkong

  • When I listened to this with headphones on, I could hear individual voices in the chorus. Bad mike placement...

Other than that, a great recording - even with the dubbing.

  • this is the best av heard on u tube

  • the singers were AMAZING, but the sound recording really wasn't, but even the it was still one of the best recordings ive heard

  • Really really good! Did they take it a bit faster than it's traditionally played? Either way it's a fantastic rendition!

  • I just heard, with DVD quality, one of the best you can hope: Neville Marriner & ASMF, Laszlo Heltay (wonderful ASMF choir founder, under whom I happened to sing); it's as wonderful as expected. Yet I still prefer this Hong-Kong celebration 24 dec 2006, full of spirit and enthusiasm - and surprisingly well feeling Haendel's music.

    Sat 8 Dec 2007 00:00 GMT (a good time for world-wide Hallelujah!)

  • Best version online, my compliments to director and preformers both. :D

  • WOW! THIS IS AWESOME VERSION!!!! Thank you!

  • it's really nice to see asian chorus sing English pieces. Hallelujah!

  • It's not ordinary Asian, it's Hong-Kong, where for a century people have had with England links quite narrow, which got even tighter when Hong-Kong was abandoned to "Popular" China.

    Sat 16 Feb 2008 19:43 GMT

  • waaaayyy overmodulated!

  • As a tenor, I'd have to agree.. but you'll have to take that one up with Handel. lol

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawful recording
