  • Is that Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction, Hoffa, The Doors) playing the part of Pvt Malone? See 3:59 to 4:01

  • No it's one of the writers of the song, Thom Shepherd

  • I had the privilege to meet the songwriter, Thom Shepherd (he's the embodiment of Pvt. Malone in the video).

    Great guy.

Hope you (Thom) had a great time in Rotterdam!

  • I apologize. It's remiss of me not to mention, and send my appreciation, to yalls incredible Country Music Writers Band!

Yall were something else! I mean that in the greatest way possible.

We all hope to see yall back here soon as possible.

Best of luck at the Grammys (both of yall involved)!

  • for a real car guy this song should make you cry, its so special.

  • Thom, I saw you perform this at Puckett's in Leiper's Fork a couple of years ago. Amazing show that evening. This song will always always move people. Hope you are in good health and doing well Thom.

  • This is a very special song. I remember that I heard it for the first time in 2001 when I was almost 11, and it gave me chills then and it still does now. Thanks so much for writing it! It's one of my most favorite country songs, along with "Traveling Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks. I'm glad you spoke of God in it!

  • A well-written song that came at the right time. Thanks for writing it, Thom, it still is an amazing song today.

Is there anywhere we could get the earlier version of this song that is featured in this video? I noticed it's different from the album version.

  • That's me singing at the beginning - My guitar vocal version is available at itunes on my CD Country Squire.

David's earlier version is not available, it's a worktape demo.

  • Saw you in nashville a few weeks after 9/11. had travelled from Scotland with parents.Watchin you and band was the highlight of our vacation thanks, thought you would be a superstar by now.

  • you did an awsome song and also david did a good job singing. i always woundered who wrote the song so cool song man

  • Does anyone know if the red corvette in the video really belongs to David Ball?

I love this song! I,like, several others here, had orginally thought it was written by David Ball.

     patybear

  • The corvette is owned by a guy in Nashville named Tim Artist.

  • amazing video had to share with my songwriting pals! thanx 4 a really great song guys!

  • Great video, I too had assumed David Ball wrote this song, great song thom. David really makes it his own by putting his heart into the song. everytime i hear that song tears come to my eyes, and I don't even have family in the military but it symbolizes the sacrifice families have been making for our freedoms for years

  • this has got to be one of my all time favorites - when it starts I am smiling but crying by the time its done - the part where he mentions the car taking away his breath makes me remember someone that had an old vette like that -

  • I love it!

  • This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing the life cycle of this song with us. That was very special.

  • very nice song ^^

  • but more so to honor our fallen soldiers as well as our survivers and fighter!go get them!my grandfathers in the war as a submarine captain.

  • this is a great vidoe to honor soldiers and honor our american sports car breed for speed and power hell yeah!

  • I had no clue this wasent written by David, well Thom u deserve one hell of an award for this masterpiece, but David Ball sure made this song his own when he performed it, I have to say

  • cool thanks for putting this up here, this rocks

  • great song

  • I remember David from SC, before Thinkin Problem. This is great, as it shows the humorous side of him that is rarely seen by the public. He's a "real guy", give him jeans and a ballcap anyday.

  • Do you think you could post the original video...that would be awsome

  • Is any part of this song a true event? Or is it just a song?

  • The song is based on true events, however, it is predominately fictional.

  • love thiz song so much!!!!

you guyz should post the song without any interruptions

  • nicely done this is so cool

  • Thom, I think country squire is probably one of the best country songs I've heard along with last letter home. Keep crankin em out because they kick ass

  • Thom you wrote a great song here. You deserve all the success you got from it.

  • Do you think you could post the original video with just the singing. That would be cool. Thanks if you do. If not, thanks anyway

  • Thom! It is so cool to see this. Thanks so much!
