  • well done on joining soulfly, can't wait for the new album. 1 question....will you be adding percussive parts to your kit for all the tribal sections. i would imagine you would have to loose some cymbals and mabey a couple of toms to make room for the percussion. is that the case? i would imagine that a lot of the left side cymbals would have to go. have you figured out your new setup yet and what new drums have you had to buy or borrow?

  • @SEPTICSOUNDS13 Youll see in a few days. not much changed... Give me like 3-4 days. Im on tour right now.

  • Are you endorsed by Sabian?

  • @Osskarii Yes sir- sabian.com/en/artist/david-kinkade

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Haha! Ok then! So that's why you are able to switch cymbals whenever you like :P

  • @Osskarii This video is pretty old too. My cymbal setup is a bit different now.

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Well of course it is! ;) I like to change my set up pretty often too :P

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Thanks dude.

    Using ur "cheat" for calibration...

    My e kit is perfect...with dm10...

    Pff...fuckin awesome.

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Would you put up another video of your current set-up now?

  • @manjenson Very soon man. Next week actually :)

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Alright, good stuff! Lookin' forward to it. Perhaps some more covers soon, as well?

  • @manjenson No more covers. Im too busy with Soulfly. Ill be posting a lot from the road tho.

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE That works as well.

  • gimme ur addres, so i can play your drums..=]

  • What kind of drum heads do you use on your bass drums?

  • @BigMutch it looks like a remo power sonic

  • So i just want to say thanks. I'm Switching to Sabian, just this month Two of my Zildjians Broke and Cracked. So yeah.

  • I was wondering, in the studio, how do you setup mics for your kit? Especially your toms, because it seems almost impossible to get tom mics between your splashes. Or do you also use triggers for the toms in the studio? Curious about it.

  • What are the trigger settings you use if I may ask? Which Sound setting?

  • DM5 pro....Its my own custom kick. The same kick that we built for the new Borknagar album. Its a mix of the Metallica black album kick, my own kick and Andy Sneaps kick that he used on Arcy Enemy....Triggers are ekits

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE How do you have a custom kick on the DM5 pro? :O :)

Also what setting do you use on the DM5 for EKITs, Noise, gain, etc

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE

How do you load a custom kick on DM5 mate?

  • Do you Think It's Worth Switching? Like I've Used Zildjian Since i Started playing, But they Are worth so much money. And Sense you've Been with Sabian For years, I was wondering what you could Tell Me about Sabian.

  • Sabian is the best. They wont break within the 1st 2 months like Zildjian will and their performance owns Zildjian....they have every possible sound you would ever want.

  • Well The Sound I Really Enjoy is Meinls and sabian is the closest i can hear. The only Real issue here is Money. I really love you setup, Same with George Kollias and when Derek Roddy was with Sabian. My setup is pretty big, Almost as big as yours. But like I Said earlier, Money is a Real Issue. If i Switch I have to replace All my Cymbals and for only Sabian B8 would cost me 1,638.92 With tax.

  • well go for less cymbals and buy the better ones. I dont really have 400 cymbals because Im trying to show off or something. I just use them all for different parts and I like having the sound options to work with. Buy a few of the nice ones and keep saving for more down the road. B8 are shit

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE Yeah, I see your Point Thier. I have alot of Cymbals For Different tones and Accents. So We Can Pretty much Relate there. What Would Really Help me out is to get Discounts for Cymbals and Gear or something along the Lines. I've been playing Drums for A year and 3 or 4 months. I've Tried to Get Endorsment Deals but Because i'm Not "big" the wont do Anything For me.

  • @DRUMMERDAVEKINKADE I agree with the whole sabian performance being better than Zildjian....but have u ever used Paiste? Whats your opinion of them??

  • Lately I've been thinking About Switching From Zildjian To Sabian To save money But I don't Know what Really To do...

  • Good info bro. Killer job on the new Borknagar album! I actually have mine set about 1/5" ahead of my beater strikes and it has served me pretty well. I do use a bit of heel-toe and I don't have misfires unless the stage is a unstable pile of junk, lol. I am currently using a TRICK PERCUSSION kit (7x8,8x10,10x12,12x14,14x16, and 2 16x18kicks) being that the shells are vented pretty well and are only 1/8" of an inch thick the sound almost as if they're already compressed.

    Keep up the great vids

  • Awesome!

a question: how much money you spent on all your kit? Thx

  • woah man this video was real helpful, especially with the cymbals. would u recomend buying the 21" AA metal-x ride over the HH 22" powerbell ride? thnx

  • Are those powersonic heads any good? I was thinking of picking up some.

  • Ya know, theyre just like the powerstroke 4's but aimed at more of an acoustic attack...with the dampner on them to help change the boom etc, but I only have them because they were out of Powerstroke 4's.......no real difference. I dont mic my kicks anyway.

  • And if you don't mind me asking what heads do you use on the rest of your drums?

  • Remo clear embass. on tops, CS coated on snare and ebony of bottoms of toms

  • what do you think to the axis hi hat clutch?

  • I APPRECIATE THIS SOOOO MUCH MAN. Check my boring channel if you want, Ive got some drum vids of some boring blasts. I will have some cool fusion and weirrd meshuggah pattern drum vids up soon :)

  • Hey thanks for the sticks at maritime, man. I remember you chatting with Jake about the trigger calibration. He's making the switch pretty soon I think. My brother appreciates the other pair of sticks too. So big thanks from him. Thanks again.

  • Nice video David! Only question I got in my mind now is What kit is that? Pearl right but what series? Btw your using Alesis dm5 or something else? I have a trigger problem with alesis dm5 and roland kick trigger, it missfires all the fucking time and the combination is pretty useless just because of that, cant use them live, only to practise? What would be optimal trigger for dm5? Im using demon drive btw, so i think the ekit wont work. Anyway, nice profile, I will subscribe!

  • @VincesoX The Roland triggers seem to be the best, there have been numerous complaints about the ddrum triggers. Try putting some pillows in the bass drum to stop the head from vibrating.

  • Ya, if you obviously cant do ekits, Rolands seem to be the best. I never had a problem with ddrum either but everyone I know who uses Roland say that they rule. Hellhammer raves about them

  • Awesome video, Dave! Can't wait to see more of this!

  • Did you not switch to trick pedals?

  • do you have to be an endorsee to get a customized stick profile

  • Yes........Ive been on the Vic roster since 2005

  • damn....oh well i guess im sticking with

    5Bs

  • love borknagar, ill be sure to get the album when it comes out

  • omg Dave you've put my picture on your desktop, i'm honored! xD

great vid, i wish i could play drums too!!

now how about part 3 making of Universal :P

    cheers!

  • I´m going to byu that album!

  • Thanks for posting it really helped with m ekits.

  • Thanks for these videos, Dave! They rock, even though I don't have any triggers or anything it is pretty cool to watch this informational videos. How much did you buy them for, or how much should they normally cost?

  • Always sweet to see your setup Dave, cheers buddy

  • should i get a electric drum kit? n wich one? something between $500-700

  • honestly you'd be better off getting an acoustic kit, a good electronic kit will set you back a hell of alot of cash.

  • acoustic if you can (dont live in an appt/with parents)...you can get a pretty decent one of 700 bucks.

but for electronic drums you will get garbage if you spend less than like 1200...if you want something decent you need to spend 2000+

  • i all ready hav an acoustic kit i just want an eletric one so i can practic at night coz they dont make a lot of noise

  • Roland make good electric kits, maybe a td-3 or something like that might be the best one to get. they're not super expensive and they dont suck.

  • can you tell us about your module settings?

  • i got lotsa module settings...im not happy with my module tho. at all. it is holding my kit back (my kit is really nice, module aint great) ..its a roland td 3.

i pretty much have it set up tho so that i have to hit everything fairly hard to eliminate cross talk, and have my retriggers set medium.

just gota find what works for you! took me a year to get to where i am with my module and its still only...meh

  • I spent a few months setting my module the way i wanted but lately it just seems too 'clicky' so im trying to figure out a way to set it up so i have the low end AND the hight end. ive been experimenting with a bass mic and trigger lately, so far its working pretty well.

  • dave.

The beater so far back thing, i use that too. It's awesome hey. plus makes you seem awesome and steriod legs when people look at your pedals, lol

  • Hi, Dave

Are you using the Alesis Trigger IO or the DM Modules or some else?
