Again I ask (and again, I add the the fact that I live in Florida), how the hell can you tell where to park your car in the lot when the whole thing is covered in ice and snow?? No lines, no arrows, it's complete pandemonium! People can't live like this! And look, in this scene the sun's out and the lot's STILL frozen over. Wow, who would want to live like this all the time? The closest I want to come to snow is white beach sand...
Its great because....this has happened to some of us. Not violently, or with swearing, but I once had it out with a parking attendent when I couldn't find a spot -- they kept taking it a step further (bringing over a manager, implying the police might be called), and I was adamant. Finally, they let me leave. Bastards. This was in Boston, over ten years ago, at the parking garage next to the aquarium.
I find Steve's character is a great parallel of Macy's. Steve starts off timid and scared (when the cop gets killed) then begins to slowly lose control (this scene is the most significant start of this). So does Macy's character. If anything, I could see Lundegaard becoming a killer if he wasn't caught already.
This movie has so many parallels. The difference in marriages. Both ice chipper scenes. Mike and Jerry's lies. Death and birth. Money and life. This script is one of the best of all time
I forgot the best parallel in regards to this scene. Both parking lot scenes. Steve actually talks to this one, trying to reason with him, and ends up paying, even though he gets angry. The other he kills instantly. Amazing character development.
This is the parking "attendant" altercation and not the parking LOT altercation. The parking lot altercation was when Jean's father confronted this guy about the ransom money ("NO JEAN, NO MONEY!") and then the guy shot him.
That's one of my favorite scenes from this beautiful movie.
Six years latter, the sitcom 'Frasier' would `pay homage` to the scene in the episode ("Enemy at the Gate" - airdate: Fall, 2002), completely modeled after this concept, of the driver's refusing to pay a small charge when he 'only just pulled in' ... Dr. Frasier Crane decides to make a sanctimonious "civil disobedience" stand against a parking lot attendee (Luis Guzmán) and hold up traffic for for the as long as he can stand.
When I saw this scene with parking first time I thought 'what was that!?)) Obviously insane'.And I still can't help laughing. Buscemi is very convincing in playing some psychopaths or the like. And the other guy makes me smile too.

Ha ha ha ha !!! 1 of the funniest scenes in a very funny movie. U steal a numberplate and then because U're too mean to pay $4 for a car park gratutiously abuse some unfortunate innocent parking attendant has got to sum up some of the people in our society. This film does a great job of juxtaposing the lower & higher sides of human nature. U have to laugh at a lot of the scenes but it's actually a very profound movie with a moral message about good a & evil. Or bad behaviour & good behaviour.
Yes he does. I think that's what adds to the humour. He's totally hokey and harmless and doesn't deserve Buscemi's abuse at all. But then that's what makes it so funny.
Let's calmly listen to it again :) In the sentence before "There's your four dollars", he does say fucking, but then he clearly says "There's your four dollars, you pathetic piece of shit". The word "pathetic" is rather low-voiced, but still audible. Wow, this is probably the most irrelevant subject I have ever brawled about xD
I seem to remember he says fucking no less than seventeen times when he comes back with the $40000 to the shack where Stormare is !!! Ha ha ha ha ha. You notice this ? I got fucking shot ! I got fucking shot in the face etc. etc..............How do you split a fucking car you dummy ? With a fucking chain saw ?....... Yeah you fucking mute. And you can tell your friend Shep Proudfoot I'm gonna nail his fucking arse !!! Check it out. I think it's seventeen times !!
Yuh. One of my favourites in the whole movie. Because of this Youtube I've been watching the movie again. Another great scene is Buscemi cracking up laughing when Jerrry's wife tries to get away from them when she's blindfolded. Never fails to crack me up. Ha ha ha ha ha !!
@Kotlettbengt He obviously says pathetic. Was that the debate? Hehe. (No, he doesn't say, "You pathetic *fucking* piece of shit", so if _THAT_ was the debate, then, yeah. :D )
"I guess you think your some kind of authority figure? With that stupid fucking Uniform? Big Clip on tie eh? Big fucking man" hahahhaha cracks me up everytime.
What does he get out of the car/?
