  • Juan Serrano is an amazing musician....

No words to describe what happen here...

    .

But I still consider Paco Peña or Sabicas as above in the flamenco art...

  • This vid is a favorite on Croatia

  • Your video is popular on Santiago

  • Ole maestro.

  • is god with a classic

  • As a metalhead and fellow guitarist, all I can do is bow my head in reverence to a true god among men. I hope to be half that good someday, if I'm lucky. Although I'm a fan of heavy metal, I prefer to hear the guitar as it was meant to played.

  • THIS IS THE BEST, I CAN LISTEN TO THIS A BILLION TIMES, I WOULD STILL THINK THIS RECORDING PIECE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND BEST FLAMENCO SONG EVER.

  • Great ! lovely.

  • Juan is awesome!

  • Tiene un toque asi como melancolico... me encanta. Pelos de punta, si señor! Ole , viva España hostia!!

  • Holeeee! maestro Juan te extranamos por Fresno California.

  • In the documentary about juan serrano, he said that there are 3 main techniques to flamenco: the rasqueo, the tremolo and the scales. And he always uses all three in his pieces. I really haven't heard any of his songs that, for example, didn't contain tremolo.

  • 12 people have extremely pathetic listening skills. what a shame.

  • those 110,000 views are mine.

  • His ieami rasqueao was the hardest technique I had to learn.

    Toque Toque maestro!

  • Viva españa joder!

  • evh got pwned

  • juan serrano to the guitar is what babatunde olatunji is to the drum!!!

  • I can only say that This Man you see here has worked very hard To become soo good . dont be so surprised people.

  • A virtuose Master!!! Besides that, I am really respectful to teachers, such as Juan Serrano and Juan Martin. Owing to them, flamenco is now played worldwide, not only in Spain. Due to them, we do NOT have to go to Spain to learn flamenco. Thank you so much, Masters!!!

  • Супер!

  • que genial!

  • this video should not be aloud to have a dislike button

  • @dragmaster5635 And people who cannot spell should not be ALLOWED to leave comments.

  • Comment removed

  • @dragmaster5635 We should start a petition for YouTube to remove the dislike button for videos like these and call it thus forth the Juan Serrano Award. It would be like a youtube nobel peace prize or something, ha! epic.

  • bravo!

  • @MultiChiber hahahahahahahah

  • Fuck Santana, Hail Juan Serrano Flamenco!!! Only shit is being brought forth by the corporate media to serve financial goals while true artists and vallues like Juan lie Godforsaken.

  • exagerao!!! que bonitas son las bulerias en el tono de la menor

  • Why is my monitor on fire?

  • BESTEVAAR. I think...no, Im sure xD that Juan Serrano understands Flamenco guitar on a whole different level than you think you do. ( if you actually understand flamenco ^^ ) no matter the point of view, those are some crazy skills.

  • Wow 0:27! What is that!

  • Unfortunately you can't buy skill at GuitarCenter :-/

  • this man is next to jesus

  • Flamengo my favorite.. sounds so good..

  • At 1'06, how does he get that high note over the Am chord?

  • Estupendo!!!

  • unbelievable, wanderful,is like un angel with guitar but no sexy:)))

  • ole!!

  • Nice to hear some old fashioned flamenco

  • Dudo que un metalero puda tocar así como este puto amo....

saludos a todos desde la casita...

  • where is this filmed??? I ask bc i have seen other video clips with the same background: Adam del Monte and a classical player too.

  • his rasgueados are amazing!!!

  • There are many greats but I love Juan Serrano cuz he has an authentic old world style that has a strong emphasis on the bass notes!

  • whats up with his rasguedo, its insanity

  • Why do people like you always have put a downer on things? I guess you mean its not pure flamenco, but why not just give the guy some credit for some impressive guitar playing and enjoy?

  • Did you juist implt Mr Serrano was "not good"? Wow ! considering he is in the top 3 best Flamenco guitarist in the world;i guess that kind'a makes you a douchebag and a poor judge of talent

  • @BESTEVAAR this clip is from an MEL-BAY instructional video,i doubt he was giving it his A GAME . Also spanarda are "gringos" too idiot . Mexicans ,Latinos

are not the same as "spanish" . they consider europeans and whites gringos . so now we know you know shit about both

    Flamenco AND Geography/Anthropology

  • YAAAA :-D THATS RIGHT!!!!

  • you should "understand ingnorance" you're the posterboy after all .LOL

  • As for his performance, there is a grace.

There is the goodness that SABICAS differed and there is elegance into strength.

I think that I am a wonderful performance.

  • gracias maestro saludos desde Fresno CA

  • in 2:53 he introduces a theme which i've hearded before in autumn leaves. Chet atkins interpretation of Autumn leaves is the concrete example i'm thinking of; it sounds tremendously similar. So, does anyone know the origins of this melodic theme, is it a kind of 'folkmuzic' ?

  • Hello my friend!

You r right about that. That theme is from Autumn leaves. A composition by Kosma-Prevert!!

    cheers!

  • BRAVO! BRAVO SENOR !

  • my guitar teacher told me that juan serrano and him made a guitar book together.....i didnt know juan serrano was this fucking badass

  • Me he aprendido Blazing Guitar y muchas cansiones mas de Juan Serrano y creo estar en buenas manos al estar estudiando su musica. Ole!!! Maestro Juan

  • After all that he managed not to break a nail.

  • awesomme!!!!!a real genius on the guitarra!!

  • muito bom mesmo

    um dos melhores....

  • I can't get enough of this video.

  • WOW.

  • Dam!!! this man is awesome, i want to learn to play that well if possible. hopefully one day i will also be considered a master guitarist..cause that is what this man is.Juan Serrano master guitarist.

  • iam glad a join a flamenco society

they get this guy every year fore a guitar festival ....up in fresno i wel meet him someday great talent!

  • Juan Serrano may well be the best flamenco guitarist ever if you consider his accomplishments teaching at Berkley, his videos, books, CD's, years of performing, and recording. My favorite Serrano is from the 60's-80's. Also from that era are legends Sabicas and Escuerdo.

  • I first discovered Juan Serrano in my local thrift store, from an old vinly record called "Music of Spain and the Old World" ca. 1965. I was instantly hooked and am so glad to see more of Maestro Serrano's works here. Such great talent, I wish more of his work was readily available on CD.

Thanks Maestro Serrano for providing us with a truly emotional and fiery Spanish music...I tell all my music loving friends about your amazing talent....Salud!

  • IMPRESINANTE Notablee guitarra flamenca.....!!!!!

  • Amazing rhythm, amazing bass lines and amazing finger speed! Perfect performance!

  • Great and clean!!! I am plannign in taking classes with Maestro Serrano now that he lives in Florida! Can't wait!!!

  • he is a great teacher

  • Wouldnt that damage his guitar smacking the soundboard like that though?

  • Flamenco guitars have "golpeadors" for the golpe's (smacking :-)). It's a kind of transparant plate. (There are also white and black golpeadors but they are ugly imo)

    JW

  • most flamenco guitars have an acrylic tap plate that protects the guitar from scratches dents and other damage, but its hard to tell if the guitar he is playing has one or not

  • This tap plate is called golpeador

  • Just seeing this guy makes me smile =D one day I wish to be just half as good as this guy is

  • Holy cow, does this guy know how to play or what!

  • Olé! Juanito! Olé:)

  • Is there any notes or tablature for this piece? Or maybe an album or book someone can direct me to buy for him? Much appreciated.

  • Juan has many books available from Mel Bay.

  • This piece is available on Juan Serrano's book "Flamenco Guitar Solos" published by Mel Bay. The title of the piece is "Alma" (Bulerias in Am). Though it's not exactly note by note, the main falsetas are there.

    Good Luck and enjoy!

  • me, too.

  • Toto no need to evolve the music form if its perfect, other flamenco guitarists are fast and boring which doesn't deserve 2 stars in my opinion.Juan Serrano is enjoyable to hear from beginning to end. Great Inspiration.

  • stunning performance!

  • Mr. Juan Serrano is my favorite flamenco guitar musician. The flamenco music he composed and played is traditional and pleasant.

  • aver es una tectika magnifica pero de sonikete p bulerias 0 coma 0 j je je

  • he's got huge hands, too easy for him

  • Actually, Juan has normal sized hands. This kind of mastery of the guitar comes from a lifetime of devotion and study (having played with a veritable lists of "who's who" doesn't hurt either!). Juan also has a natural gift of rhythm and musicality that few possess.

This is just a small example of why Juan is known as "The King Of The Flamenco Guitar".

  • @eldelacerda what about Paco de Lucia, Pepe Romero, and all the other flamenco guitarists? There's no "King of", every guitar master (and every guitarist our there) has his own style, his own ideas of sound, playability and so on.

  • @eldelacerda He is very good. But how can we decide on one "King of the Flamenco Guitar"? I believe there are many kings - Ramón Montoya, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Diego del Gastor, Paco de Lucía...etc.

  • @NinoM His hand is huge while comparing Yang Xue Yang

  • woo! fast!

  • He rocks... 5 stars!

  • I'm really not sure that this is "easier" than what Tomatito or even Amigo play (I except Nunez, which is a pure machine), not sure at all... ! It's more a question of style and chords than a question of technique, and you just have to let this music evolve at his rythme. We could say that Juan Serrano is very modern compared to, say, Diego del Gastor, but that's not the problem anyway, Diego has the Jerez sound, that's all...

  • he make me want to quit playing

  • why? is his playing so poor??

  • he makes me not to quit playing

  • i mean i personally feel inspired by his playing to practice more

  • excelente, de verdad.

  • Superb!

  • this is good stuff but i wish it was one second shorter..eh

  • This guy is awesome! I took a guitar class with him 3 years ago! he's a great guy!

  • Si, toca de manera única. Me encantan sus Melodías... un gran guitarrista!

  • Does anybody know where it would be possible to purchase the notes for this piece?

  • It's great!

  • wonderfuıl to watch the masters of the music......

  • one of the GREATEST flamenco guitarist to every live... original and amazing!

  • Actually, I also like Serrano better. The others you mention are perhaps more versatile, faster, more creative even, but often their performances seem too manic to me. Serrano seems more traditional and for some of us, that is more impressive. All are fantastic though, and I also like Grisha Goryachev.

  • I'm sorry but those terms: versatile, faster, more creative and virtuosic are exactly the terms which could be applied to the greatest composer ever - ever, Beethoven!! Mozart's compositions were incredibly virtuosic, that is no criticism

  • Hi again. I see you are back listening to Serrano again, so you must like his playing too. I don't disagree with you in principle, but in taste. You can still have a preference to whom you would listen too. I say musical enjoyment, like beauty, is an abstraction held in the eye of the beholder. My taste for Spanish guitar favors Serrano over the others you mentioned, while admitting they are all superbly gifted musicians. Peace.

  • No problem, you are allowed your opinion and I am glad you appreciate flamenco guitar, so good on you for that. I appreciate Juan's deeply traditional playing of say soleares and seguiriyas but his compositions haven't progressed since the early 1960's. He is akin to Juan Martin, who though professional and hard-working has done little to evolve the music form.

  • I must agree with achsofromm on this one. Much of the modern flamenco seems very impressive technically, but to me it gets boring in the long run. Technic itself doesn't make music interesting I think. It's only a matter of passion, energy and a set of nice chords, of course. Old style guitarists like Juan Serrano and Paco Cepero rules! Over and out.

  • I couldn't agree with you more!

  • I think anyway that this is more "virtuosic" that one could guess, I'm really not sure that this is "easier" than what Tomatito or even Amigo play, not sure at all... ! It's more a question of style and chords than a question of technique...

  • He is god

  • WoW he is fast!and very good.I like it very much, get me going for my days!mil Gracias!

  • where is he from..may someone tell me?

  • Juan is from Cordoba, Spain.

  • Ten fingers that sound like twenty says it all. Superb, maestro.

  • Wow! Juan is simply the best guitarist I have ever heard! Why are there not more of his playing on here?

  • Then you can;t have heard many guitarists! Go listen to Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, Gerardo Nunez etc.. anyone can discern their superior far superior musicality and even technique! So before you make such comments do some research, what you said is simply ludricous to us aficionados and experienced flamenco guitarists!!

  • Well, still being a young American student of Flamenco. The more I listen to a variety of performers the more I appreciate the more traditional guitarist's, the sound of the 50's and 60's Flamenco's. Though I love the music of these "Virtuoso's" they don't move me like many older artists, Serrano's playing makes me want to jump out of my chair and stomp my feet. While Vicente Amigo puts me to sleep. I also think the "solo flamenco guitar" is overdone these days.

  • ^^^

    what he said

  • I love them all. Juan Serrano is an awesome player. Paco Cepero and Moraito make me want to jump up and dance as well, but to each his own. I just wish I could play half as well as any of these guys.

  • Cepero is one of my absolute favorites, he is such a master. I particularly like him because still being a student he plays in a way I can understand. Though I also love Jose Merce and Moraito.

  • olaaaa ...greeet exellent..this man is pewrfect...harikasın juan serrano:))

  • Maestro Serrano is an AMAZING guitarist - but also, a great teacher! I studied with him for four years and he's been always patient, helpful and friendly. He has great technique, unique style and excellent rhythm!

  • One of my favorites! Juan, tu eres el mejor!

  • One of my favorites! Juan, tu eres el mejor!

  • Very nice buleria better than the bulerias I have heard by Tomatito and Vicente Amigo I have found hear (excuse but there bulerias are so boring and sounds as each other)

This was little bit original Very nice and beautiful

  • beautiful playing... mucho duende...what a great player

  • Juan Serrano is the greatest!

  • Maestro!!! ole!

  • excellent, masterful, soulful, technical - the best

  • Increible, maestro. Este melodia es maravillosa y el ritmo perfecto.

  • tocas excelente!
