haha back in the time when car stunts where no result of planning and long hard work but just the result of a stupid idiot trying to kill himself in a big bang! :D
I don't get this at all. Give ANYBODY some money to get a car that will do it, and they can jump it off a ramp into the water at X number of feet.
I thought the thrill of stunts and the success of them were measured in actually jumping OVER an obstacle and landing as safely as possible. This is just a guy going real fast and plunging his car into the water.
@CombatSportFan I was thinking the same thing. Aside from his miraculously surviving the accident, there isn't really anything impressive about this. If he would have succeeded in crossing the river and landing on the other side without ruining the car, that would be different.
@JoshuaH688 Heck, if he had landed and the car stayed in an assemblence of one piece I would have been impressed. This, isn't even like crashing your car into a catch area of some sort. He's not landing on the ground, it's not like he can MISS the water. It's almost like watching him attempt suicide rather than defying death...
@IMmoreRANDOMthanYOU Well yes, I know. But my initial complaint was that it just seems to be senseless. Like when other daredevils do a stunt that their lives are risked, there is an actual attempt at success besides not dying. I just don't get why he would do it or what the appeal to watch is.
@CombatSportFan Your wrong, i know that most people won't do that for X amount of money. I can understand why he did it and I respect him for doing it. But it takes a certain type of person it do that and that type of person is rare.
@mrmurtagh11 Actually, I didn't say that anybody WOULD do it for X amount, but anybody COULD do it. That's the thing about this stunt that bothers me. Even for those stadium crash stunts where guys go into catch cars and stuff is still impressive and takes a lot of skill. This is just driving a car into the water. The skill is knowing how not to drown afterward. I just don't understand the appeal of this or why he even wanted to do it.
@TheSituation118 Yeah, but again, the point of a stunt should be to have some sort of success besides not dying. All daredevils and stunt men have to know how to absorb impacts of their landings and crashes.
My guess is that he was in no danger while underwater. IMO He took a page from Houdini's book by taking air from a rescue diver while underwater. This builds up to a more dramatic ending.
Rip a good car

@CombatSportFan Keep in mind these cars were twice as heavy and have no airbags. He risks his life every time he step into that car.

Spanky is tuff as woodpecker lips. The water had to hurt like hell when he hit - Spanky killed it. He killed it even harder in Kansas, 328'!
