This is the perfect example of the type of people cruising attracts. Selfish, Stupid Annoying Americans. ''This is not happening, all our stuff is on there''.... YOUR ALIVE for gods sake!
If I was on that boat the first thing I would do is kick the fuck outta' them spasticated American's. Seriously. Why do Americans act so fucking dumb. Cathy and Steve can fucking get locked up in a cage while angry Arabs fuck there kids in the Arse infront of them for all I care.
I actually like captain schettino and don't think it was actually his fault, well 100% anyway, he just got into panic, I think deep down he is a cool person and most people think the same, especialy americans, most like him a lot, lets hope he gets to keep his job after all this is over.
@steliosnino66 well, just trying to put myself in that situation, if it were me in the captains position, I would take everyone into the show hall with a bouquet of ice cream cones and start throwing them into the air so they could land on everyones heads, this will stun people and stop the panic, then I would do a striptease and tell people to put their hands together and a warm welcome to elvis presley and sing "were caught in a boat" and do the moon walk.
@quelbop I agree... she's scrap her interiors are ruined, her propulsion & electrical machinery is history. Her superstructure is now twisted and buckled. They may cut off her superstructure and roll the hull back upright, like they did with the USS Oklahoma after Pearl Harbor, and the SS Normandy in New York.... But then its off to the scrap pile. Would you book a cruise on her were she resurrected? Costa will be trying to distance themselves from this tragedy
I'm a diver and I do ship inspections and salvage work. What happened to all the tranverse bulkheads and sealed compartments? This is fishy and it stinks.
I haven't worked this site but it's totally weird.
@TheBelldiver Judging from the location of the gash and the rapid loss of electrical power I suspect that his generators flooded first. Engineering personnel in the damaged compartments would have fled the area quickly in a panic. Perhaps in their flight they didn't stop to secure watertight doors behind them allowing the flood to envelope beyond the damaged compartments. .... continued .
@TheBelldiver continued from below With the loss of electrical power they would have been unable to counter flood so perhaps they opened valves to gravitate water into the high side.instead. Subsequent flooding and panic may have forced the crew to abandon the valves allowing them to become submerged and hence doubling the amount of water allowed into the damaged hull further reducing the reserve buoyancy .... continued. .
@boatscum continued. Then the Captain turned the ship 180 degrees to ground the ship ashore. With any speed free surface effect would have forced the water to the undamaged side. Hence the deadly list to that side which resulted in the roll over and eventual sinking of the vessel. The damage was also located aft of the tipping center of the vessel which resulted in an increasing stern drag. Pictures of the lifeboat evacuation also show the ship down 25 -30 feet by the stern. continued
@TheBelldiver continued 4 With this stern drag the after open decks became submerged. I'm sure the doors all had water-tights but since they were 25-30 feet above the waterline they were probably lashed back in the open position and only normal wooden accommodation doors were in use. Thus the stern of the ship began down flooding uncontrollably thus sealing the vessels fate
My life was in terrible danger a few years ago when the Greek Islands ship I was in overturned in rough seas.
Fortunately I survived for 3 days in an air pocket that happened to be in the restaurant & kitchens, so I was able to breathe, drink & eat well the whole time. Rescuers said they just couldn’t believe the good condition me & 12 others were in when we came out- local islanders began to worship us as human miracles!
@SuperTruth77 I think u tell us bull shits dude!Could u define the name of the ship and the area of the accident cause I am greek and I don't remember such a thing!
@HoodwinkedbyanAngel Nothing, You think their finding jewelry in that junk pile? The ship is on its side and everything in it is either floating around or on the low side in a heap of debris. Jewelry being fairly small is at the bottom of that pile plus it is pitch black in there... besides they've suspended diving operations now anyway therefore a moot point
@boatscum YOU DO KNOW UR AN IDIOT RIGHT? It is not pitch black in there when you turn on your dive light you imbecile...And each room has a wall safe...where the passengers kept money and jewelry
```
You fucking moron every thing in the is not floating & if it was so what? the dive lites make the room well lit and the safe did not go any where so the divers can find millions in cash and Jewelry and now one would ever know the difference...Plus THERE ARE MANY SHIPS SAFES IDIOT~
You people just have no clue.There is a hell of a lot more to this story than has been released or will be released until after all the law suits have been done. Trust me as I was a Captain on cruise ships in the 80's and am an Master of unlimited tonnage vessels upon oceans -7th issue now (tankers they pay more and you don't have to put up with fucking ass hole passengers). The one thing you do have right is that the Captain is always responsible weather he is at dinner, in bed or not.
@boatscum lol, I'd be fucking worried at someone in charge of an unlimited tonnage vessel who did not have the intelligence to use the correct spelling of "whether" for his comment.
@Cancerape Hey brain dead!. USCG doesn't have a spelling test to get a license. In fact until recently you could take an oral test for those who cant read & write.
@boatscum nobody's impressed.. these floating garbage heaps are run by incompetents, including low IQ captains, and they are some of the worst polluters of the oceans. If you're a captain, sorry no respect, you only have the right to prove your competence is 100% and that you weren't dumping pollution and garbage, otherwise get out.
@boatscum ..u hv a point there but wonder how was this captain assessed prior to taking command. I'll be worried if they overlook something even if he's qualified paperwise & clocked enough sea time as 2nd in command. Then, what abt responsibility of management & was there pressure from elsewhere to steer disabled ship nearer coast for assummed more convenient rescue or possible ship recovery later. Hope we'll get a better picture after full investigation.
That captain is a foolish coward who abandoned the sinking ship without a thought for anyone else! He should be charged with manslaughter at the very least.
@torquesport There are a few similarities. The chairmen of White Star Line escaped in a lifeboat and was branded a coward for the rest of his life; same with this captain. Both passengers were plucked into freezing water (albeit slightly warmer in this situation). Both had panic and nervousness.
But that's not the point. The point is that such things should not be happening in the age we live in.
The boat just sank to the bottom of the ocean, it took all the dead people with it and few more who were looking for the dead. The Captain was released and is sailing his yacht to the Carribean. How cool!!!
@TheBilliebobsmith That's really rude. Why are people making jokes, it's really sad... how would you feel if your family was on that boat ? Or maybe even you?
Es ist eine absolute Frechheit den Überlebenden einen Rabatt von 30% auf die nächsten Costa Kreuzfahrten anzubieten!!
Es werden noch Menschen vermisst, Angehörige verzweifeln vor Angst, die Überlebenden sind teilweise traumatisiert und Costa Kreuzfahrten beschäftigt sich bereits mit der Schadensabwicklung...
I will not pass judgement on the captain until all the facts are released in the court case but seeing ad the company is American owned, we can be be certain that certain facts and truths will be twisted or withheld.
This situation is similar to Titanic that happened 100 years ago. Both ships were hit by a sharp object, both told the passengers to not worry by the crew, knowing that the ship was in danger, people rushed like mad dogs over the lifeboats. But thank god that it wasn't 2 thirds of the ship passengers like Titanic.
The problem with saying the Captain was showboating by sailing too close to the rocks is that all this was at night, when no vista view of the island was worth the effort, So it remains illogical to say the captain brought the ship too close to entertain the passengers with a good view, when it was dark out, and there was no view. The GPS should have alerted the crew that the ocean floor was inadequate, there is constant Sonar and GPS to prevent the ship from running aground in any case.
@CarmineFragione The problem with saying that the captain wasn't showing off is that the captain admitted to showing off, the owner of Costa Cruise Lines said he was showing off, and he was arrested by the Italian police charged with causing a shipwreck. You might want to check on some of the facts before you start posting comments that have nothing to do with the facts.
Scary my respects to the people that lost their lives but for some reason no matter how of this stuff happens iam still not afraid to go on a cruise ship.
no i do not feel sorry for the captain my hweart does not go out to him they didnt even have a drill like they were supposed to before the ship set sail how in the hell did he get by with that they are mandatory i thought i been on five cruises everyone of them we had a drill
It still has to be shown how all the Navigational equipment did not alert the crew they were about to hit a rock ledge or reef. Even if the Captain was drunk or fell overboard the equipment should have taken soundings and readings of the sea bottom to alert . That has to be shown why all this equipment of GPS etc. did not save the ship , no warning, not even after they actually hit the rocks, nothing was known, Was the Computer hacked into or the GPS disrupted and not in service ?
@CarmineFragione The answers to all of your questions have been available online for several days. Costa reported the course was programmed correctly before it left port. If the ship deviated from that course audible alarms would sound. If the captain then programmed a new course manually it would disable the alarms. The captain apparently maneuvered the ship too close to the rocks on purpose to "show off" for passengers and islanders.
In this day of women wanting equality I would be off the ship myself. The captain did right leaving all those whiney bastards to fend for themselves. Just listen to those American whiney bitches. The fucking ship is in trouble and she is whining on about her fucking luggage.
The dead i hope are all yanks or french or stinking sheep shagging welsh bastards.
im so confused about why people died...its so sad...how did they end up in the water?...it just confuses me that people died in a ship that wasnt and is still not fully submerged ? ...would people not have died if they had just stayed on the ship...? must be the panic?
the name concordia comes from 2 Latin words "cum" and "cordis" which means harmony and unity. This incident symbolize that the devil plan to destroy the harmony and unity between the humanity and god the sun started. Say stop to chemical trail, wars and debts!!
If Mark Wahlberg was on that ship with his kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of JB Weld on that hull where the ship struck and then him saying "OK, we're going to navigate somewhere safely, don't worry."
I can't picture myself on a sinking cruise ship. I went on Voyager of the Seas in september of '10, and didn't once think of sinking. After watching a documentary on the news last night about this accident, I'm scared to go on another cruise :L
@KingTrollable Costa Gettinin, Scottish Fisheries Museum on You Tube,
BE PREPARED, watch the links on this short Museum video of the museum before making your visit! BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY! The links are the IMPORTANT part!
@KingTrollable Are you a fucking idiot they were on the boat when they put on the life jackets and got on the safety boats...they should not take it of when they get on the boats...
@TVittle first of all the US is a great place to live and second of all, stop being a fucking IDIOT! Your so ignorant. Stop plaguing YouTube with all your BS. Stop hating because you don't live in the US...
it is said that the filipino crews are the ones who save them. no officers was on board. so the filipino cooks,maid and other utilities crew are the one who save them
In my twenties, I use to work on Royal Caribbean (M/S Sun Viking - 900 passengers when the largest of the fleet was M/S Song of America with 2400 passengers), then M/S Windsong - this one sank !! and before, M/S Windstar (with 150 passengers each) back in the 80' and I went on a family trip on Carnival Cruise line to Panama in 2007 to give the experience to my family, with over 4000 passengers.. and as far as security is concerned, those new ships are way too big !
I use to think, in my youth, during boat drill, that if we had 15 mn we could all make it, but my personal experience on the new ships tells me that to exit from the bottom up in case of a problem with a cargo full of, "mostly" retired people, is a big problem. I'm surprised that so few died in the Concordia. I can't imagine the same scenario, a couple of miles away from the same coast....
@FMDSSDMF18 the titanic hit the iceberg on 14th April 1913 and sunk on 15th April 1912. Where as the Costa Concordia ran aground on the 13th January and is yet to fully sink... but still unlucky dates for ships hey
The GPS should have alerted the crew that the ocean floor was inadequate, there is constant Sonar and GPS to prevent the ship from running aground in any case.
CarmineFragione 1 month ago
@CarmineFragione The problem with saying that the captain wasn't showing off is that the captain admitted to showing off, the owner of Costa Cruise Lines said he was showing off, and he was arrested by the Italian police charged with causing a shipwreck. You might want to check on some of the facts before you start posting comments that have nothing to do with the facts.
Scary my respects to the people that lost their lives but for some reason no matter how of this stuff happens iam still not afraid to go on a cruise ship.
no i do not feel sorry for the captain my hweart does not go out to him they didnt even have a drill like they were supposed to before the ship set sail how in the hell did he get by with that they are mandatory i thought i been on five cruises everyone of them we had a drill
nikki33100 1 month ago
It still has to be shown how all the Navigational equipment did not alert the crew they were about to hit a rock ledge or reef. Even if the Captain was drunk or fell overboard the equipment should have taken soundings and readings of the sea bottom to alert . That has to be shown why all this equipment of GPS etc. did not save the ship , no warning, not even after they actually hit the rocks, nothing was known, Was the Computer hacked into or the GPS disrupted and not in service ?
CarmineFragione 1 month ago
@CarmineFragione The answers to all of your questions have been available online for several days. Costa reported the course was programmed correctly before it left port. If the ship deviated from that course audible alarms would sound. If the captain then programmed a new course manually it would disable the alarms. The captain apparently maneuvered the ship too close to the rocks on purpose to "show off" for passengers and islanders.
In this day of women wanting equality I would be off the ship myself. The captain did right leaving all those whiney bastards to fend for themselves. Just listen to those American whiney bitches. The fucking ship is in trouble and she is whining on about her fucking luggage.
The dead i hope are all yanks or french or stinking sheep shagging welsh bastards.
im so confused about why people died...its so sad...how did they end up in the water?...it just confuses me that people died in a ship that wasnt and is still not fully submerged ? ...would people not have died if they had just stayed on the ship...? must be the panic?
the name concordia comes from 2 Latin words "cum" and "cordis" which means harmony and unity. This incident symbolize that the devil plan to destroy the harmony and unity between the humanity and god the sun started. Say stop to chemical trail, wars and debts!!
Why do they all still have their life jackets on...?
hairywonder3 1 month ago
If Mark Wahlberg was on that ship with his kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of JB Weld on that hull where the ship struck and then him saying "OK, we're going to navigate somewhere safely, don't worry."
Since the ship is sitting onshore, it looks more likely that it was hit by a train than by a torpedo.
I can't picture myself on a sinking cruise ship. I went on Voyager of the Seas in september of '10, and didn't once think of sinking. After watching a documentary on the news last night about this accident, I'm scared to go on another cruise :L
In my twenties, I use to work on Royal Caribbean (M/S Sun Viking - 900 passengers when the largest of the fleet was M/S Song of America with 2400 passengers), then M/S Windsong - this one sank !! and before, M/S Windstar (with 150 passengers each) back in the 80' and I went on a family trip on Carnival Cruise line to Panama in 2007 to give the experience to my family, with over 4000 passengers.. and as far as security is concerned, those new ships are way too big !
I use to think, in my youth, during boat drill, that if we had 15 mn we could all make it, but my personal experience on the new ships tells me that to exit from the bottom up in case of a problem with a cargo full of, "mostly" retired people, is a big problem. I'm surprised that so few died in the Concordia. I can't imagine the same scenario, a couple of miles away from the same coast....
