This was my first Vegetarian Thanksgiving, and my first Tofurkey, and I have to say it was 100 times better than what I thought it would be! I prefer the Field Roast Celebration roast however. I'm sticking with that for Christmas. I can't say that I missed the real thing though. I've always loved all of the sides on Thanksgiving more anyway! :-D
Good for you for sticking to your guns and not having turkey. Unless you cheated, In which case you are a horrible person and you need to be locked up in Turkey Prison.
There is nothing wrong with a little indulgence now and then. A nice moist turkey is far too delicious to turn away from. I've never really understood the vegetarian lament anyway. Some say that it is cruel to eat living beings. Well, everything is a living being. Plants, vegetables, trees; all of these have circulatory systems, breathe oxygen, eat food, and some would argue, feel it when they are killed. So what is the real difference between killing a plant for food and killing and animal?
I dont agree. being a vegetarian doesnt suck at all on Thanksgiving or any other day. How gorss to sit next to people eating a dead corpse bird that was once happily gobbling about. How insensitive to kill it and eat it ?!? Human beings , I mean HUMANE beings do not eat animals to be able to survive. I have not had to in 36 years. I am not living in the Arctic CIrcle. There are exceptions for a few. SO much energy is lost in eating any kind of meat. Not for intelligent people at all !
1:15 - Think about how much it sucks to be the Turkey for thanksgiving and it may make sense to you why you should be a vegetarian. If it doesn't, then perhaps you should not be a vegetarian.
Dude, those potatoes look awful. We hate the Tofurkey, too, but Quorn is better, and we had this mushroom gravy that was so good, no one ate the turkey gravy. There used to be this fantastic thing called the Zen Unturkey--you can still make your own, but the company is gone. Better luck next holiday feast.
We tried Tofurky for the first time this past Thanksgiving, and it was awesome. :)
What would suck about the scenario depicted in the video, for me, is being around people who are consuming the carcass of what used to be a former fellow being of this earth. It's hard not to feel saddened by the ignorance, apathy, and cruelty of others...
Um, wtf? Tofurkey is fuckin' amazing, its way better than regular turkey. It was the only good part of my thanksgiving, and I was glad only a few select people were eating it.
The tofurkey roast is okay, but I prefer to make my own because I can control the seasonings and it's a lot cheaper. There's also this company called Field Roast that makes a celebration roast, but it's so small and expensive.
I actually just uploaded a video of our vegan Thanksgiving dinner if you would like to check it out!
you a Veggie?! OMG You gotta be shitting me, Whats the point. thousands of animals are killed everyday for food, regardless if you eat meat or not, at least it something that taste good.
LOL! I've so been there! Tofurkey is not bad but it sure isn't a real turkey. I've since quit being a vegetarian and I'll always lament the year I didn't eat turkey!
I'm a Vauge-an. I eat a vegan diet most of the time, but I totally had turkey yesterday. When I was on vacation and someone bought me a filet mignon dinner, I did not turn my nose up at it.
Hahah, this Thanksgiving, my brother and I ended up having veggie burgers at my grandmother's because she was all "Oh don't worry I've got something for you guys too!" And it was veggie burgers :P hehehe.
I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I also am not that into turkey. Sooo...I had a veggie wrap yesterday. Was delicious, and a turkey lived to see another day. You go Wil. Never had tofurkey, but if you like it... YAY! (Besides..leaves more room for pumpkin pie!)
why would you post something like this? I know it's supposed to be a joke but surely you're just perpetuating the thought that vegans and vegetarians don't have a good time during the holidays cause they're not tucking into a huge dead animal?
@SweetPeaM It is a joke. Obviously you don't have a sense of humor. Get over yourself. He wouldn't be a vegetarian if he didn't want to be one and he said nothing about not having a good time. What a way to end your Thanksgiving…by being snarky. Maybe next year someone should save another Turkey’s life and stuff and roast you instead. #Iknowthisisnttwitterbutjusthadtohashtagthefactthatpeoplearestupidsometimes
I acknowledged it was supposed to be a joke but I still don't think it's a helpful thing to do. It's like saying 'OMG! That's SOO GAY!'. turning round and saying it's a joke doesn't negate the fact that you're implying that something is inherently wrong
I acknowledged that this is supposed to be a joke but I still don't think it's a helpful thing to do. As far as I'm concerned, it's not unlike saying 'That's SOO GAY!'. Just cause you turn round and say it's a joke afterwards doesn't make it ok since you're still reinforcing the idea that something can be inherently wrong
Just fill your brain with thoughts of a meat industry filling animals with unnatural amounts of hormones and eat your tofurkey with pride. Even though you can find a bird from a local farm that's a product of good practice and better quality. If you really wanted. :|
Yes, it really, really does :P Christmas, too, because my family makes THE BEST looking ham (and from what I remember, it tasted pretty amazing). Thankfully, my mom makes stuffing that makes me forget turkey even exists :P
Oh come on, yours is.....you know... uhm... sorry I love turkey and can`t defend your tofurkey with the glorious bird laying by it`s side :( My friend`s a vegetarian an swears tofurkey is great, I`ll have to try it some day.
It doesn't help that the turkey takes up most of its pan, while the tofurkey and potato chunks might fill up half of its pan. Presentation matters, people.
@xglamaholicx Right, because anytime anything is hard to do, but you believe in it, you should quit because there are bad parts about that thing. Just quit, kids!
@xglamaholicx He only said it sucks on Thanksgiving, not that it sucks in general. If he and his wife are happy with it every other time of the year, then it's not so bad, yes?
I tried tofurkey on my first veggie thanksgiving, and it was kinda meh. Now I just make sure we have spectacular sides! This year: bit.ly(slash)fWOpCc . May not look like much in the pic, but the vegetables au gratin, from-scratch stuffing, and savory butternut squash were incredible! Hope the rest of your meal was yummy!
I think I love he and she. Check out the PETA's banned Thanksgiving day commercial and you'll be thankful that you don't have to eat "chemicals, dirt , and poop," and "and thank you for rainbows". :)

Tofu in the kitchen

The best thing about being a vegetarian or being on a diet, is that every once in a while it won't kill you to break it.
For instance I don't eat beef, but every once in a couple months or so it doesn't kill me to eat a cheesesteak.
