Hey, I marched with the Blue Devils in the 80's - UFLS. We had several women soprano players - that what a G Bugle was called. Several of them could play quite well. Diane and Beth were awesome. I could hang with her no problem.

@raf24ism No, he is right. "An" is the correct article for words beginning with H. We Americans tend to forget that. But he is a doofus. There are not many opportunities when playing Haydn & Hummel to emote to a crowd. What a joy it must have been, however, to be in that studio.

Wow, while looking up Wynton Marsalis, I've come across Helseth and Balsom. Quite the surprise! Of course, PC speakers are very limiting and comparos are difficult. Although up there in age, Maurice Andre is still at the pinnacle of the trumpet in every aspect, but listening to Helseth, I was quite impressed. As for Wynton, well he can play anything, classical, jazz, etc.

I'm not saying "oh man the Blue Devils can play SOOO high that they MUST be the best!!!" I'm saying could anyone in BD play with this nuance, purity of tone, technique etc. I believe she could bury just about anyone in DCI. I don't really like DCI. I've seen it cause too many playing and musicality problems in people who could have been excellent musicians.

of course its an Eb. both concertos were written originally for the Eb and pros and serious players almost exclusively use the Eb to play these and other period pieces.

I've been playing the trumpet for 8 years and she's been my inspiration all along. I saw her perform in Glasgow earlier this year and met her before hand. She's such a genuine person and is a truly talented musician. I could watch her play all day - amazing tone and articulation. She makes playing the trumpet look so easy.

actually, the original that Hummel wrote was in E, not Eb. However, most ppl play it in Eb now because the Eb trumpet is so much more commonly used. Wynton Marsalis plays Hummel in E with an E trumpet
