pretty awesome video there..we're headed down March 31st--going check out Adventure Landing,M.O.S.H, the Zoo in J'ville..and spend some time in St Augustine...any tips?
hey i live in jacksonville on the west side of town and at night it is great over here i love that some one is on here doing this about our lovely town i would never leave jacksonville fl this is the best town hit me up on here please i have some ideas for some of your videos
@Snakejl there the smae but miami stays a little hot longer but miami is better than jacksonville it has a better beach more nightlife and all that and a much bigger city
They say that because of the size, it takes a day and a half to travel Jacksonville. Bull, you don't have more than about 15 to 20 miles to the county line from downtown. You compare the size to Miami-Dade or Los Angeles County to little ol' Duval County.
Heheh good job on the video. You covered most of the basics. Good ole JVILLE in the works.I just moved from that crap town, but I still miss those roads. :p Nice job on the vid, you covered from southside to downtown pretty well :)
@westwild89 I've been to Little Rock, I'll take JAX any day over that place. If you really want an upgrade move to Atlanta, trust me, Little Rock is a step backwards.
Jacksonville,FL sucks this place is more country than any other city it sucks living here my main goal is to get out of this place, and never hope to see it again in life
@echarvalkeem Champ Bailey is from Folkston GA, I know that's near Jacksonville, but it's still GA. Also Rock Bands Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet are from Jacksonville, and the city hosted Super Bowl XXXIX.
I'm sorry but i have to say this to myself. New York state sucks. As soon as i'm probably 24 im going down south. Save up enough money to get a good job and apartment. Cleaner cars very nice weather and woman i'm sick of all the scumbags in new york state.
Jacksonville is my hometown. I currently live in Washington State and have been here since 2005. It was nice to see I-95, 9A and the US-1 roads again. Not to mention the bridges (Fuller Warren, Dames Point and Main Street Bridge even though it was from a distance). Maybe next time you're down there you can do the Buckman and Matthews bridges. Thanks a lot for posting this!
@zorlac774 how do you like the snow up there? we have been having whacked out record setting cold weather here in jacksonville, but no snow unfortunately.
@tti01 the snow takes some getting used to, but im adjusting well (no accidents yet :P) this year is especially bad. the area im in doesnt usually see snow until after the new year and weve already had it 3 times. el nino is a mofo lol. if youre setting records with the temp down there then i know its cold, cuz the humidity makes it feel colder than it actually is. stay warm! \m/
For me jacksonville is a boring city....with crack heads - cops everywhere- and the nights ends at 2:00 AM ... the view is great on beaches ...but that is all...there are no parks divercion or good recitals..
.....because i'm sure Seattle is dying to see another NBA team emerge for Washington State. I don't live anywhere close to Seattle and even I am desperate to see a new team in Seattle, lol.
If you look in the sky in the background in 2:56-3:03, that's something you seldom see outside of the deep south - those extremely tall cloud structures like that. Indicator of a very warm and humid airmass all the way up high into the atmosphere. Which is why thunderstorms with hail are rare in this part of the world during summertime.
Actually, it's Juneau, Alaska; but if you're counting The Mainland; then yes, JAX is the largest. This city is so underrated. I'm amazed at how large and beautiful it is. Can't beat the water and scenic beaches either. With that, I'm surprised the Jaguars are the only pro sports team there. Should at least get an MLB or NBA team. Florida Panthers (Miami) or another hockey team should move there, too. GREAT job on the video and song selection.
@lakebay972 same goes for San Diego. Not nearly as spread out in land mass but definitely in need of more teams than just the San Diego Chargers. I think the Clippers should have stayed in San Diego. Does L.A. really need TWO nba teams?? lol. What a selfish city.
@mumsdawerd San Diego also has the Padres; and it's always hit or miss with them. I'd love to see the Clippers back in San Diego (or even Buffalo, for that matter) if their owner wasn't such a cheapskate. The Rockets and the Clippers have both failed on and off the court; and the fact of the matter is that basketball (NBA) in San Diego has never been a good draw. Placing a franchise there would be considered very risky. But like any other city, it's all about the money.
@lakebay972 I see what you mean. I agree and very good points. You know even if they didn't do well, i'd still love to see them in San Diego. :-) I'd also love to see San Francisco (not the Warriors), Seattle, and Kansas City with NBA teams once again. Yeah, Buffalo might be okay with an NBA team but honestly i don't see it as a MAJOR city. To be honest, i was surprised that S.L.C. even got themselves a team. At the time they were received, even Sacramento was an "iffy" market to me.
@mumsdawerd San Francisco, that I know of, always had the Warriors; but they apply their name toward the whole Bay Area and called themselves Golden State, which is kind of dumb. You want to talk about "iffy" markets? Try Oklahoma City. As for the others, Seattle is not interested. KC and Buffalo can't support another team. In fact, Buffalo could lose the Bills to Toronto and/or the Sabres to Hamilton while the KC Chiefs could go to either L.A. or San Antonio.
@lakebay972 I understood that to be kind of dumb myself. I know that technically, the Warriors belong to Oakland because their arena is in Oakland. The Bay Area is nothing like the L.A. area. The Lakers can affiliate themselves with the entire Metropolitan. That doesn't work with the Warriors for the Bay Area. The Warriors should strictly be an Oakland thing, and San Francisco should have a team of their own. The East Bay is different from the West Bay.
@lakebay972 I know that San Jose in the south bay would be overlooked but honestly, i don't think they could support an NBA franchise. San Jose is all about hockey and their sharks. A d-league team or maybe even Arena football might do well in San Jose but I don't think the NBA would fit. San Francisco definitely needs an NBA team though. In regards to OKC, i was so mad when the Sonics left Seattle! From what I hear, it was the city of Seattle's fault anyway but Bill Gates needs to invest soon.
@mumsdawerd Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, owns the Portland Trail Blazers. So I guess that's good enough. The San Jose SabreCats are coming back next year in the newly christened Arena Football League. As for the Sonics, they, along with Las Vegas, are up for expansion; OR the Sonics could be part of a relocation with either Milwaukee, Indiana or Memphis.
@Airman241 -Jacksonville has some of the best natural scenery from ther bridges around-anyway I would hate to see the Jags leave but it is what it is-I think what is actually hurting them is lack of a close rivial I think when the NFL realligned the divisions they should have been with the Dolphins-for better or worse the Dolphins are well the big fish in Florida the standard and created a natural rivial taking nothing away from the Colts
@777jackpot1 disregard the previous message...Actually, it's "disloyal;" but enough semantics. In a couple of years, say hello to the Los Angeles Jaguars; or L.A. Jags for short.
@Freewayjim Incorrect... It's only "technically" that way. It is definitely not the biggest city in Florida either. Imagine taking an entire county and naming it ONE city.. that's what Jacksonville did. Anywhere in the county is called Jacksonville, FL. Port St. Lucie, FL on the other hand is about 98 square miles (city limits) and it's doesn't take up he entire county. Miami is by far Florida's largest city in terms of population. Jax counts the entire county.
Awesome. Love the soundtrack and the entire presentation. Makes this Jacksonvillian want to record a drive down Heckscher road to Fernandina Beach. My personal favorite drive. Great vid.
ilive in tallahassee now, but i am from jax. anyway, one of the guys i work with here, moved from somewhere up north. when he was driving down, he came down 95, and decided to stop in jax for the night. this poor guy got off of 95 on philips hwy and attempted to get a room for the night on philips, after midnight. he actually stopped at the gatorlodge. ended up at the scottish inn, and couldn't understand why the hotel check in clerk was laughing at him. oh well
That bridge just south of the I-10 turnoff... that used to be a toll bridge years ago.
My family and I went to Orlando via I-95 and Jacksonville three times... 1987, 89, and 91. After 1987, the tolls weren't there anymore. I think it was 25 cents.
i think maybe a dawn drive of the beeline, 528 orlando to cocoa beach, think that might be an interesting one. or into orlando at dusk, just a thought
Love it man, almost thought i was ridodulous me watching someone else's drive around roads i have driven easily thousands of times. but thought is was awesome.
Sort of with regards to the Police, I'm not a huge fan and I just haven't really had a "fit" yet with any of their songs but it could happen. I only have one Spyro Gyra song that I like "Arianna" and haven't considered using it yet.
Much smaller, Metro Atlanta has probably more than 3 times the population that Jacksonville does, Jacksonville is somewhere in between Charlotte and Birmingham as far city size and stature goes.
are you a truck driver...with a name like "freewayjim" thats the first thing i thought.
btw i live in jacksonville and im a delivery driver for an office supplier so i was calculating the exits before they came in the video....tom-tom aint got shit on me
Great video! And gotta admit you've uploaded so many new videos this week(and beyond just the KY/TN/Knoxville videos I've been able to watch), that I'm still behind in watching a few of them. :)
Which of your freeway videos is the clip used in your new introduction from? I'm starting to like that introduction, especially since it has a dark neon feel to it.
The opening clip is US-78 East approaching Stone Mountain just east of Atlanta, GA. It's not from a video loaded on here, just a clip from some experimental footage I shot last month, glad you like it.
sounds like a good song to fit a cool state like florida :P

How big is Jacksonville compared to Atlanta?
iloveroads 3 years ago
Much smaller, Metro Atlanta has probably more than 3 times the population that Jacksonville does, Jacksonville is somewhere in between Charlotte and Birmingham as far city size and stature goes.
Freewayjim 3 years ago
Jacksonville is the largest city in America when it comes to the city size.
The population is about 1000000 people
floridianx 3 years ago
Yes, city size in square mileage, not population (NYC might have something to say about that)
I was comparing Metro areas.

No I'm not a trucker, this was just a pass through on a father-son road trip. I'm a bridge/highway enthusiast.

To let u know. The opening clip is the best u have and u need to keep it. It makes this production seem more "professional" at least in my eyes

Thanks, I appreciate that!

..at least you weren't there at 5:00, rush hour is really bad there. Especially around 10 and 95.

I hope to move to Jacksonville, FL someday...I'm ready to get out of Las Vegas for good!
