  • There's gotta more Drastic Motives to Build this Device since there are less Sophisticated means to Test military gear.

  • T-800 look way less intimidating with a lightbulb for a face.

  • hahah drop and give me 20

  • next step, hoping from foot to foot & running. Much more difficult than a perambulated stride, which that Honda unit doesn't even do.

  • I think I just soiled myself...thanks for the clothing test.

  • 1:00 Haters gon' hate.

  • Petman: *walking* Haters gonna hate..

  • "Boston Dynamics"?

    OMG is Nina Sharp there???

  • There's no way they designed this thing with the intention of testing clothes.. If they wanted to test clothes, they'd have a human do it.

  • Good this is the 1st step for making a Terminator in the future that is going to eliminate us all!!!

  • it's just it's ability to keep its balance that is impressive. just imagine it running after you with only one command...to kill.

  • looks like it's doing a strut at the end.

  • well, were fucked

  • cant even do a full squat. pff lame shit

  • I can walk better than this

  • I think it can walk or even run without the safety tethering as more improvement is much needed, however, to walk on it's own it's going to require an onboard generator as in the big dog.

  • Can Petman -really- walk or only mimic walking motion when there's a moving floor under it, supported by giant cables and threads (or whatever)? It's interesting, but not all impressive, compared to HRP-4, for example (or HRP-4C Miim). Still, it's probably going to be efficient in it's purpose, killing human beings.

  • I need your clothes, boots and motorcycle !! Just a matter of time, say in about 50 years

  • I wonder if you guys can make it walk without the cables like bigdog? And this is TOO advanced for its purpose... it should be use to develop artificial legs, OR get together with HONDA and improve ASIMO's walking...

  • Make it run!

  • give it a gun, it would kill himself

  • give it a pimp cane. it walks like that anyway...

  • The question is how we shut the Skynet down...

  • "Doch in Zukunft sollen Roboter sehr viel stärker eigenverantwortlich handeln. So will beispielsweise die US Air Force bis zum Jahr 2020 unbemannte Kampfhubschrauber in Dienst stellen, die dann selbst entscheiden können, wen oder was sie beobachten und welche strategischen Ziele sie verfolgen."

    c't 25/2011, Seite 50

  • @Synapsenkitzler Haha, gerade noch von dir auf Facebook gelesen ;)

    Synapsenkitzler brought me here !:)

  • won't be long before it's weaponized....

  • I think this robot would be very useful in nuclear power plant meltdown.

  • Can we super size that petman robot by a thousand, add armor and weapons to it, and make it be piloted by a human and call it a Centurion?

  • Guns do not kill people

    ROBOTS DO!!!!!!!!!!

BUY ONE TO PROTECT YOUR HOME JUST FOR 9.99$

AND THAT IS NOT ALL IF YOU ORDER THIS NOW

YOU GET BIGDOG ROBOT FOR FREE

    AND HURRY ZOMBIE

    OUTBREAK IS

    COMING !!!

  • T-800(prototype

  • Haters gonna hate

  • Why fight those Bullies Around the Corner When you Have Terminator.

  • John Connor we need you.........

  • so children, this is how Skynet begun

  • ця залізна скотина зможе бігати ???

  • Robots will never walk like a human they said

Robots will never look like a real human they said

Don't kill us the researchers said...

  • Duh nu nuuuuuuuuu duuuuh nu nunununu...............

  • Its Shuffling! SHUFFLING!

  • The Robot should rip out the attached wires and say to the Scientists, I'm tired running on this treadmill, its your turn! to run on Treadmill (and threaten the scientists)

  • I actually would love to see boxing matches between this Robot and my friend. There would be Robot parts flying and probably Human Parts, and plenty of blood. It would be cool to watch, sort of like a "Boxing Match to the death". I'm willing to take that chance , with my friend in the boxing match. I'm sure the cable stations would make out handsomely.

  • I wonder how they will solve the energy needed to run "free". A giant battery on the back which lasts 10 minutes? A child could outrun it and waste 1% of the energy this robot would use...

  • much more natural then asimo!

  • Check out foxnews.......there saying DARPA is trying to create a real life "avatar" program, but with robots......see any correlation???

  • That god damn cylon son of a bitch! We already know how this turns out we need to stop them before they destroy us all!!

  • I live near Boston, their Work Rocks!!!

  • Does real fine, with all those wires attached, will do real well in battle! (NOT)

  • GIVE IT SOME HANDS AND PUT A FUCKING GUN IN IT! GEEZ! technology is wasted on these nerds

  • I like it how idiots that have no idea about programming or experience in robotics are freaking out...

  • @yannbane cause it's kinda freaky. In a break-through kind of way, like holy crap how in... It's more the ability to balance that's trippy. Eventually it'll be able to make sharper, more fluid movements, and then follows the ability to full on run, with its feet leaving the ground. That's when it'll gett really weird.

  • @yannbane at this rate, we'll have remote-controlled soldiers. Which will eventually make war obsolete, and countries will resort to settling disputes by way of Call of Duty tournaments between the leaders. Much less expensive than an army of robots.

  • @TheNachoCobra I doubt it. That's a really utopian and simplified scenario, and nothing will stop countries from just bombing the shit out of weaker countries. Also, you shouldn't be afraid of robots that look like humans. Humanoids will never be utilized in combat. It's all about smart helicopters, drones and vehicles (humanoids are slow, power consuming, while others move fast, can carry more and simply are more flexible).

  • @yannbane Well yeah of course it's a simplified scenario. But it would also be an ideal scenario. No one would have to get killed, we could watch our presidents and prime ministers and kings and queens play video games (just the concept is awesome). Not to mention we would save billions of dollars. Trillions, actually. And then we could destroy world hunger. After that we can use our money for space exploration. If we would have started using video games for war 100 years ago... smh.

  • @TheNachoCobra I don't think that people will ever stop fighting the wars regardless of robots. For instance USA V China. Say all of our USA robots get defeated....we surrender??!?!?!? unless Americans have completely turned into little girls by then, i think humans will take up arms to fight China. It is ridiculous to think people would simply surrender because their machine mascots lost. People will never stop fighting.

  • @yannbane We would have already found another planet with intelligent life by now. Just imagine how advanced of a civilization we could be without war. Not to mention organized religion. Emphasis on organized.

  • @TheNachoCobra I completely agree with you. I simply think that wars are inevitable in the current system... USA attacks someone, nothing happens!

  • @yannbane War es inevitable becuase we are human, only aggressive species evolve

  • @JRDShamrock the fastest and usually develop the smarter brains

  • Before anyone freaks out, notice the shit ton of wires it's connected to in three different places. There is no battery on earth that can power that robot, and if it was disconnected from the wires and given the most powerful existing batteries, it'd walk five feet and keel over. That's the main obstacle to any robot tech, not movement or balance.

  • @GozerTheGozerian

That what we believed until Boston made the Bigdog completely remote operated.

Seeing what they have done for Bigdog, equally heavy robot carrying hundreds of pound of loads, it's entirely possible to transfer that knowledge to Petman.

Hell, majority of what's used in Petman is already tech learned from their development of Bigdog.

  • @aohige That's true, but the reason Bigdog isn't in production is because it's gas-powered and cost-prohibitive. Way too expensive for the task. This lab should take a look at what Tesla is doing with their cells...those are far from perfect too, but this tech isn't going to work with gas. Unfortunately, energy is always the problem.

  • Quite impressive indeed, soon we wont need either stop-motion or CG to make Terminator movies :D

  • This is sensational, this robot looks much more flexible then asimo. Very nice how he is placing his foot from 0:21 on.

He only is walking too much on the heels. This looks unnatural and almost painful. Humans have got used to this due to wearing shoes, but it you go barefoot, it is impossible.

  • @GeorgScholz ... I don't think he'll be having that problem. What's wrong with you.

  • got the biggest haters gunna hate walk

  • You might be a super-nerd if you build a balancing, walking, humanoid robot for the sole purpose of testing clothes.

  • the light bulb head makes me laugh

  • I like how people think robots will be the destruction of humanity. Things like that only happen in MOVIES. Oh, of course, movies are always true in every aspect, my bad...

  • "PETMAN simulates human physiology by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating... "

isn't there a similar line in the terminator explaining these are actually characteristics to infiltrate the rebel bases without being detected....

they just havent gone to growing the simulated human tissue yet....

  • Swag.

  • Terminator!

  • Skynet! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • After all those videogames, I have this instinctive need to kill it, wathever it takes.

  • 1:00

    EVERY DAY I'M SHUFFLIN'

  • Insert Robocop theme here.

  • Holy christ, I hate seeing all the "0mg they k1ll us!1" cancer here... It's just a robot that was made to look like a human, it's a small branch of robotics that isn't really significant at all. If anywhere, AI is going to be developed on non-mobile super computers, not on robots with huge guns. You should be worried about other things, such as nuclear weapons and unmanned, smart drones, not this.

  • @yannbane Boston Dynamics is already under contract from the U.S Military, They are developing these machines for deployment in war They WILL be used to kill.

  • @STREETRUNNER817 Is it not better to have killbots instead of reprogramming human beings to become kill bots, then sending them back home so they suffer from PTSD?

  • @STREETRUNNER817 Cool. There are many robots that are used to kill, this has been happening for a long time. Sending robots to war > sending humans to war. I don't see how this supports the argument for AI robot apocalypse. You do realize that those robots aren't conscious, and that they are programmed by humans, don't you?

  • @yannbane The only thing i wouldn't trust are the humans who would use robots for the wrong reasons.

  • @EnhancedCognition That of course is a good point. Robots turning against humans, though, is a bit too far stretched. But that's just as with any other weapon.

  • At 00:15 I see where this is coming. Soon we will build robots just to bully them.

"Hey robot !" *pushes* "hey robot, can't walk straight ?" *pushes*

  • This is used for... testing clothing?

    Really?

    Really really?

  • @MnemonicHack I know, wouldn't you think it would be easier and cheaper to just hire a guy to put on the clothes and then move around a bit?

  • T-800 ;)

  • Ok we are fuckt :( it's getting real!

  • @NickVerver What is?

  • I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

  • guys were fucked. make EMP guns

  • Skynet.

  • なにこれ映画泥棒の人?wwww

  • ok now it's getting scary

  • He's got the swagger of a champion.

  • All he needs now is a positronic brain

  • Well atleast I will be able to have my own robot buttler before I die :D

  • Hi Schwarzy...

  • looking forward to 2050

  • Did anyone else watch this video to the Rocky theme song?

  • Blinky is his little brother... if you dontknow look vimeo --> blinky

  • and I didn't even read about the simulated sweating

  • cables + tail for balance + determination to use treadmill + visible struggles with pushups = first morbidly obese anthropomorphic robot

    congrats

  • stupid robot thinks pushups will make it stronger!

  • Terminator beta testing.

    I LOVE IT.

  • i understand that this is prototype. but when i can buy a working model?

  • Hasta la vista baby

  • i dont know why but I have a bad feeling about this one

  • 1:02 Swagger like us

  • Ladies and gentlemen, this fellow combines the classic sensibilities of a 1950s robot, with the dynamic flair of a 1970s street pimp, please welcome... Pimpbot 5000.

  • Petman + Miim = Love

  • Terminator

  • I don't think they should push this one around.

  • sweet! killer robots.... I wouldn't be surprised if the inventor/creator/designer of this gets kidnapped or killed by some random orgs. before this thing is "FINISHED" with its developments... just like that tesla guy....

  • time to grab the phone book and call every John Connor out there.

  • 本格的に機械歩兵だな。戦争の常識が覆りそうだ。

  • I think this robot is homeless..Look at his shoes 0:51

  • i still think robots deserve penis's and vagina's

  • GET TO THE CHOPPER!

  • Velho! essa bostonDynamics é sinistra tem o BIGDOG,PETMAN tecnologia de 1º fera!!!!

  • fap fap fapf ap fap fap

  • Ok so to make end of the world come faster make tons of them and give weapons....

  • WHY!?!?!?

  • reminds me of Hector from Saturn 3

  • I'd tap that

  • why would a robot do pushups? It has no need to increase it's muscle strength.

  • @marcelleqb They do push-ups to simulate the exercising that soldiers will do. They need realistic movements in order to test military clothing.

  • Every dog needs a master...

  • Hah , this is it what I want to find in web . I love robots

  • JOHN CONNER!!!

  • it uses a neuronet processor...a learning computer..

  • I can't wait to see this thing walk without the harness!

  • Wow・・・

  • WTF WHY WOULD U WANT A ROBOT 2 DO PUSHUPS?

  • testing special clothing.......such as....body armor.

  • @wrathofme03 yeah....i'm not sure I see how that robot could do a great job of testing clothing...just strap it on a person to get the best assessment of comfort and fit...

this thing is clearly just a prototype for the first generation of robotic soldiers.

  • @Slaughter013 exactly...i agree completely. They are saying that their "big dog" robot is being used to help the soldiers carry equipment. At the same time we see bases being torn down and army brigades being dismantled and a push for manufacturing jobs in the U.S....watch what happens.

  • Look at the swag in that walk

  • WRITING FROM 2030.

YOU SHOULD STOP THIS, YOU HAVE LACK OF TIME TO DO THIS, I HAVE NO TIME TO EXPLA

  • How nice to see New World Order robots that will be killing us in the near future!

  • @scorpiogod1 so? make your own...

  • This shit is no joke just give that thing AI and a gun and we are all dead

  • real terminator

  • ARE YOU SARA CONNER

  • not to worry, ill just run away. it cant catch me. lol

  • He can walk the walk...but can he talk the talk?

  • vimeo. com/33030265 K3loid

  • It seems its got the "pimp walk" down.

  • sky net this is how it starts

  • I will blame you for T-800.

  • Dude my grandma can do better push ups.

  • @jolupapi Hahahahahaa!!! god damn I spit all over my screen from laughing

  • There are foams all around the place, they look like the got a hell of a beating :-P

  • 0:23

It's running SLI right? I can see the micro stutter.

  • UNCANNY VALLEY'D!!

  • @lathouxaris hr-reference?

  • @Foryeva Well actually the "Uncanny Valley" is a concept in robotics. When something approaches human likeness without actually being human, we tend to be more repulsed by it.

  • @lathouxaris ya i know, twas wondering if u were referencing teen girl squad episode 15 from homestarrunner, because that would be a really specific reference and would humor me.

  • @Foryeva I believe that was actually a spin off episode. It was "Four Gregs." Still, Homestar is pretty popular on the interwebs, and that joke can be appreciated on several levels. :p

  • Fantastic I' Robot. Nice!

when this robot working at my house...?

  • The should put the head of "Julies" on it, with Xbox kinect behind its eyes, and put drls? Arms on it

  • very crude, compared to the honda asimo.

  • @czg2012 True, he's not as polished, but Petman does a few things which Asimo can't, such as being pushed and being able to balance itself. Have you seen Asimo miss a step whilst climbing the stairs? He falls down like a ton of bricks. There is some very interesting technology here.

  • @czg2012 Petman seems to have more humanlike walking then the Honda robot

  • it's g r e a t

  • Anyone else thinking of the beginning of RoboCop 2?

  • This video went viral on Canada

  • I wanna see the talibans faces when this one comes walking with a gun in its hands :P

  • What have we created? It's like the Matrix all over again!!

  • SHUT UP! You still don't get it, do you!? He'll find her! That's what he does! It's all he does! You can't stop him! He'll wade through you, reach down her throat, and pull her fucking heart out!!

  • i'll take 4 units please

  • 30 years ago, this was a MOVIE by James cameron!!!

    Today, its near completion.

    Tomorrow, T-1000.

  • SWAG
