Long live the K-Car!!! I grew up in the backseat of a 1988 Dodge Aries K Station Wagon. It was tan with burgandy interior. We got over 300,000 miles and 14 awesome years before she was retired from service! Such great memories!!
This is an exact duplicate of a car I owned in the late 80's (1986). I don't know why people dump on K cars but it was the best care I ever owned. Easy to do regular maintenance, roomy, great gas mileage and fun to drive. And it never failed to start right up (Throttle Body fuel injection) If they sold new now I would buy one in a second. What a great engine that 2.2 was. Thanks for the great trip down memory lane.
@arnvidb no problem :) I don't know why people do..Because there were far worse 80's cars out there such as the yugo, citation, omega ect...I think its mainly non mechanic's...that bash..we had two of the them back in the mid 1990's one ran up to 375,000 miles that one died due to rust, the other one we traded off in 1998. I also got one of the very first K-cars as well..
hi i have a dodge aries it was wrecked but had it for 5 years with a different colour bumper.. i know where 3 are at in the junk yard in mint condition .. brand new interior and body.. there priceless but the junkyard guy says he wont sell it to me cause they surrendered the title.. he said its a total lost and cant bring it back is there ANYWAY to get these cars out of the salvage yard i will pay anything but he says money doesnt matter and he doesnt know how to get the surrendered title back.
She" just rolled out of the showroom. Excellent shape. You have the cream of the crop anywhere on YouTube WOW!" I sure remember seeing car lots around here loaded with any kind of Aries or Reliant or sibling you could possibly ever want and yours still look new, and yeah they where being driven everywhere!! now their a rare breed but its nice to see them after all these years. Keep any updates or addition's you might have coming and post them you've got a fan who loved them, then as much as yo
I just bought a 1986 Plymouth Reliant K with a 2.5 engine for only $600, only thing wrong with it is the thermostat seems to be bad (even though it was just replaced) so the car tends to over heat, and my winshield is cracked :( Other than that I love this little car! :)
Wow usually people restore cars from the 50's and 60's, but hardly ever the 80's! Great job. I've always wanted to restore an '86 Lebaron with the wood paneling and everything. I love those 80's cars
Great video and car. You and I have the same sensibility. No need for speed. Just enjoy cruising. Love an 87 Caravelle my customer has. Crossing my fingers I can get it, as it has 40,000 documented miles.
rust in the rockers, rust in the floors, headliner, dash pad cracked, paint faded, but the little 2.2 ran great, i only paid 150.00 and its got 2,200 dollars worth of new parts, and since its a govenment ordered sedan, it has some rare options, its blue booked at 5,000 dollars on collector car sites
You get about 35mpg? I bought a 1984 Chrysler LeBaron convertible with a 2.6 Mistubishi engine 5 years ago, it got terrible gas mileage. The trip computer said I was averaging 11.7mpg. I wonder what my problem was or if those cars typically were low mileage even back then. I'm guessing that because the car was 20 years old when I bought it that it was just age that contributed to the bad gas mileage.
I see no one really Restoring 1980s Chrysler minivans. They are also K cars from the same family You have done a beautifull job restoring Plymouth Reliant K. To see a car like yours in that new look is rare, it turns heads. I Wish you would have shown more of the road when filming from inside the car, I wana see were we at or going. Thanx for the ride.
I just recieved a 86 Reliant 2,2 for free. Darn thing has code #24 which is the throttle positioning sensor, so I gotta order a new one. Only problem is that I live in Sweden so the shipping is almost 50% of the price but I'm gonna buy it. thx for sharing!
some guy picked it up on the wrecker. it was maroon with the 2.2 TBI. I think the fuel lines were plugged up or the filter was clogged. other than that the car was a mess and definately dead.
COOL THANK YOU FOR HOE TO DO THE CODES :) i bet i get the map sensor one (mines undone lol (i need to hook it up again) BEAUTIFUL CAR wanna restore mine lol

I think they would have been more popular if it came with a standard transmission.

Dang, this car is gorgeous. It is good to see people restoring otherwise forgotten cars.

I have been getting a pretty constant 22 mpg with my 84 reliant, but then again I don't drive it in the most economical way ^_^

That is a treasure from the 1980s I really did want one of these but i couldn't find one. that is a beautiful car
K-cars got a bad name because like the grand ams, and cavys they got into the hands of trailer guys.

I get normally a 33 code, which relates to the A/C. But I have no A/C anyway and no power steering. Manual 5 spd shifter.

Nice car! Looks showroom new. I have to say I'm not much of a Chrysler Corp. fan but I do have a soft spot for a few Plymouth models.

That looks pretty nice....great restoration......what condition was it in when you got it?

thats because 2.6 engines are a pile of crap, infact a 2.6 powered K-car is slower than a normal 2.2.
ya dont expect much gas mileage with a 2.6 engine, if you want a good 80's mopar find ones with a 2.2 or 2.5
