Sorry kid, it takes alot more than beautiful music and a talented actress to make a show work. Sweeney flopped in it's first run. Alot of shows do. Sometimes it has nothing to do with the piece at all. But more to do with the buisness of it. But I think this show in particular (from what I've read)apparantly lacked a good quality story line. It had lots of beautiful music and dancing but didn't have the story Les Mis did. (Notice I said APPARANTLY. I didn't see it, so I can't say for certain)
I've seen so many shows on Broadway for the last 15 years of my life and this was definately the best I've ever seen. There's something wrong with Broadway these days if something this beautiful, stunning, compelling and moving can't last.
it was not trash..if it opened in London, it would have been fine, and then we would have loved it because American's can't think for themselves...even if this was a piece of trash, Stephanie alone made it worth it...how could you insult such talent..
I saw it and it wasn't a piece of trash. The dancing was amazing and the singing excellent except for Queen Elizabeth who you couldn't understand. Otherwise even in the crappy seats it was good.
Critics hated it, theater snobs (most didn't even see it) claimed to hate it. Every season, there needs to be a show that everyone can just hate for fun and Pirate Queen happened to be that show. However, the vast majority of people that actually saw it loved it.
I got goosebumps in the first 30 seconds! wow!

I did NOT think it was trash and I saw it in chicago and New York. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think the Cast Recording is very worth having.

My original comment stands- although it's a moot point since the play is long gone.
