There comes a time when violence against innocent people becomes an impasse that we can't stop from happening. They will continue to harm innocent people and drag their names all over the place. They will attempt to continue to harm their victims by rewriting the history so as to make themselves vitcims. We don't play those same games. We have better things to do with our lives. phil is THE man. he has his act together. he is fun. and he is good at his craft. he joined the band as drummer almost by accident. when it was time for him to audition, he could not be found. turns out he was swimming in the pool. the band took him on board partially because he was good and crazy. phil is the pinstriping on a caddilac. smooth, straight, and classy.

Annifrid of Abba said of Phil Collins that she wanted him to work with her as his album helped her get through a broken relationship!
Must admit, some of these songs have been very personal and hard hiting that you cannot help but apply them to your own situation in one way or another.
@trustinme26 you are correct. I dedicated this on my facebook to my soon ex-husband. He was nothing but a stranger...a Joseph looking for a manger...for 7 years.

im sure i can sympathize. i had an ugly breakup with this woman who i thought was my world back in autumn of 2008. i found out this week through a promoter of my band that the vocalist of another band this promoter helps out is now dating that same ex. needless to say the pen and notebook have been on overtime since.

hello hyperchipper...wow... that was surprising to see you reply to a comment from such a long time ago :) even more surprising that I didn't have to go search for your comment to reply back to you. Thanks for the info. Ummm that seems hard to believe though! :)
thanks to all the folks who like this comment. Bottom line is...this song relates to so many of us for different reasons. Phil wrote it for his ex-wife, but I think it stands for all of us who have tried to work with people who make victims of innocent people. My step-father beat my dog, then had him put down while I was at work. He made himself seem like a victim because I was angry about his savage behavior, then he blamed me for it. I finally stopped caring, and it took over 10 years...
I love the words to this song ! I'd love to give this to my ex husband who is a real jerk-off. Only Phil Collins can get to the point of how I feel sometimes about him.
i like sexy men & phil is sexy! he can sweat all over me any day, darlin! he's still got hair...you just can't see it! he can grind me any time! he, he! karadan100: your're a real jerkoff!
Here have some saltwatertaffy...It's full of my tears...my job seems to be done...and, I don't have much to lose if I speak my mind.. we never REALLY played the same games,as each other, anyway......Guess I do care what you say, I'm leavin', aren't I? Seems to me that you're the ont that don't care, no moe...This smilingslavegirl is outta here........seeya. By the way, this is a LOVELY song...
I saw this concert in Perth 1995. They opened the show up with a drum solo and then rolled into this as the first song of the night. Set the tone for the whole night. This song never stops being a classic !!
anybody has this version in decent quality somewhere ?

hello hyperchipper...wow... that was surprising to see you reply to a comment from such a long time ago :) even more surprising that I didn't have to go search for your comment to reply back to you. Thanks for the info. Ummm that seems hard to believe though! :)

I'd like to dedicate this tune to my step-father and pay homage to it as a testament to his cruelty----
"I remember all the times I tried so hard and you laughed in my face cause you held the cards" <----poetry

thanks to all the folks who like this comment.

Real man don't drag the name of the ex-wife all over the place. But I believe angry ex-wives will do that.

sicodelicodelperu 3 years ago

This is an awsome song. I love listening to it on the cd we have. It is even better when listening to it live.
Phil Collins puts on a great concert. He acts out the song in his performance and his face sings the song as well as his voice.

I saw this concert in Perth 1995. They opened the show up with a drum solo and then rolled into this as the first song of the night. Set the tone for the whole night. This song never stops being a classic !!
