Oh please. We are all animals with strong instincts for self preservation. Walking around underground or in fire escapes/ maintenance tunnels is creepy because there's no'one there except you usually, and every small noise echoes. Like your footsteps.

If your torch goes out in there, of course you're gonna be nervous and if you believe in ghosts/souls you're gonna be scared anyway.
