  • P.S.

This should be Lady Gaga's next single.

  • And then by the time that they do actually get lost, people are using those effing noisemakers so you can't appreciate the lost-ness. I mean, audience participation looks good on paper and sometimes works practically, but this just conjured up images of blind rage and suicide for me.

And as the smartest and most well-equipped music critic in the world, I feel that everyone should agree with me- if you don't, well, there are plenty of Philistines out there that lead perfectly normal lives.

  • @ohlordbabyjesus As the most well-equipped music critic in the world, you should know that the feeling you get inside the hall is completely different from the one on a video. This is a game between musicians and audience and it is very amusing for both when participating.

But, since critics are disappointed wanna-be musicians, I propose you to go out there and try and play some music. It could change your whole perception of it.

    Hey beezy,

I've played this before, and I say nix the noisemakers. I HAVE SPOKEN.

  • @ohlordbabyjesus

Oh, I see you're very sensitive on criticism. Just like the plenty of Philistines out there that lead perfectly normal lives.

  • Nice to hear an interpretation of this. I'm in an ensemble that's working on this one...Being learners it's really easy for us to get lost in this piece, which means that Rzewski's direction "if you get lost, stay lost" creates a very chaotic (but interesting) sound from early on for us (I noticed about six minutes into Part 2 that particular element finally started to kick in; man, would it be hard to stay together that long for me!)

  • @stapler942 Staying lost was much more difficult... We got lost on purpose towards the end.

  • I understand how you feel, but the piece is written for "any number of musicians and any number of non musicians playing anything... preferably very loud...". The audience was invited by the musicians to play the "non musicians" part and therefore participate actively.
