  • also that moped is pretty rad, you should fix it up if its still there

  • Those aluminum chunks built up on that grinding wheel can fly off at the darnedest times.

  • 'painted aluminum? not the best. but it was free... which makes it the best'

  • YAY 2 HP Motor is back!

  • Okay I also feel I must inform you, yet again several years to late, that you're using the wrong tool for the job. You need(ed) high grit metal sanding flapper discs. You're using a stone wheel which is not as effective.

  • 6:00 Geekja Alumiken!

(ninja shuriken for those that aren't well versed in geek)

  • Dude, is that the bandsaw motor? What ever happened to the workshop you were building?

  • where do you get the ball bearings???????

  • WOW... Terrorists attacked the train where your ball bearings were? Maybe they are scared your robot will become a war machine against them.

  • ratchett ring spanners are the bestest

  • yeah, I think its ability to support massive weight would

be based upon its torque, but if you want to lift

trains up or tear ass giant-robot style, you'll probably

want more than 2hp, and definitely more than one

    electric motor.

  • YOUR KNEE IS TOO AWESOME FOR ALUMINUM.

  • two horsepower? seems a little low... gears or belts i assume will be on it?

  • oh well i saw the chain but thats all? hm.. u did the math, it must be right then!

  • Well, really, the amount of power will just relate to how fast it goes. I could gear it down enough that it would run on a 0.001hp motor. Just really slow

As it is, 2hp is more than enough. I think I might actually have to slow it down a bit more than it is now. Its scary!

  • yeah.. im no expert (obviously) so im sure 2 hp would do

  • Maybe you should build a brace thingy that straps on your shoulder or what not for your vid cam as free your hands to make it easier to film and work at the same time... ? :)

  • naw... the videoing can't get in the way of the building. the building is more important. videoing is distant 2nd.

  • motor is not big enuff as for generator try a car system using a A/C generaotor and a battaery to start attaching the the alternaotor to the out put of the motor and keepthingthe recteifier then attachhin the lines to teh battery you will have a conutious supply of eletrcity that way !

  • stop welding spatter use antispatter comes in a spray can saves much time.Good efort.

  • ohh.... sweet. I hope it works on aluminium. :-)

  • don't forget to breath jamie

  • breath? ya know.... if you change one letter in breath it becomes breast. hmmmmm.

  • so it does...

    never noticed that

    thanks, brightened my day

  • Oh, ya. I have a lot of time to think about boobs at night since I spend all day on my dreams. :-P

  • You are a charming fellow aren't you

  • err... umm... yes. very charming indeed. heh heh. Oh crap. I better start being more charming. umm.. SMILE! :-D

In my free time I think about flowers, walks on the beach, and uhh... umm... augh! Can't think of anything else girly.

OK OK, all I think about is building things, food, exercise and girls.

    ...probably in about that order.

  • HAHA i find it really hard to break off this conversation.

i see you replied and i need to reply back tis in my nature

  • Oh crap. 2 people who have to wait for the OTHER person to hang up. hmmm.

  • I know tell me about it....

  • A train(moving) without people on it is called a runaway, and those are bad :-(. And even more prone to crashing :-).

  • Yes, I understand that. That is why it is sometimes difficult fo me to continue at a high productivity. I won't go forward without lucidity.

  • man dont give up, you almost got it, we have to start a robotic revolution, I have build one of my own too, you inspire me :)

    I just posted my video

  • give up isn't something that Jaimie's do. Thats like saying don't forget to breath. I'm goin to check your video. :-)

  • haha, harbor view! its funny, i actually have that same central machinery drill press thats shown in the video. 20$, wow, ok thats pretty cheap, thats why i should do my research before buying a dumb co2 tank. urgh!

  • was it a harbor freight one? cus i use to have one of those. it was good but, like you said, can't weld anything else but steel. i herd today that argon is about twice the expense as co2. is that true?

  • Ya, Harbor Freight. Or as my dad calls is "Harbor View". ha ha. 60 cubic feet of argon is about 20 bucks. I don't know how much CO2 is. The gas lasts so long, though, its not a major part of the cost.

  • Its a Craftsman 120 volt mig welder. though not a Lincoln, it still is a great welder. right now i am only on the flux cored stuff but i can weld up to 1/4 inch with it.

  • sweet. My dad just got a 100$ piece of crap flux cored welder. It works great! I almost feel silly spending 10X that. ....but welding aliminium, and being able to do stainless steel are things I'm pretty psyched about.

  • btw, when do you think you're going back to vermont to work on the workshop

  • I'll be in Vermont by April. ...and as soon as the snow melts, I'll be all over the workshop. :-)

  • i think that refers to the cubic feet of gas. the reason i asked is because i am going to convert my welder to mig and i weld alot so anywase, keep up the good work and look forward to the next vid!

  • Oh, right. Ya, cubic feet. Thats it. What kind of welder do you have?

  • will you clarify if drawer sliders are being kept for some other application or did you abandon altogether since ball bearings tended to leak out?

  • There are some drawer sliders on another part, but I don't think I'll use them for anything else on this machine. I'll use them on future projects. They were still worth getting at the price I got 'em.

  • sweet, kinda like a golf cart. umm, random question but about how long does argon usually last in those size bottles?

  • Well, I've gone through 5 1lb spoons of aluminium wire on one tank. It was a "60"... and my new tank is an "80". I don't know what those refer to. Weight in lbs maybe???

I'm actually surprised how long a tank lasts. I've done a lot of welding.

  • yea thats another good point. both eco friendly and cheap. with the solar panels you could probably use a power converter to up the "juice" and store it in a bunch of capacitors or something untill your ready to operate it.

  • I don't know what that meant, but... ya. I could totally do that. :-P ...or I could plug it into my house, and it can augment my houses power. :-)

  • im really interested to see how this whole thing will turn out.

  • yea i agree with the generator for powering the motor. i mean batteries are great but very heavy and expensive. plus the generator needs no charging time just a gallon of gas and your on your way. Nice job with the motor btw!

  • Well.... I'm still into batteries. I like the idea of a solar panel sitting on it, and leaving it in the sun to be ready whenever I want. .....no buying gas!

  • MORE BALL BEARINGS?! Wow, whats that count now? I also laughed at the squirt gun part.

  • uhh... well, I'm not sure, but the new sliders add about 120.

I like my squirt gun. :-)

  • Wow, I'm really amazed.

It would be nice if you showed us the overall picture, so we can see what you've got until now.

  • I've got a pile of parts strewn all over. :-P Well, I'm just making a mad dash to finish all the body parts. ....everything but the legs.

  • I just spent 1-2 hours watching your videos and now I've got to wait for more :(

It appears that the sun has risen...

    Good luck on the robot.

  • Thanks! I guess I better get back to work.

  • mmm ball bearings *slurp*slurp*slurp*

  • ya, ball bearings are yummy.

  • Oh yeah, will the finished machine be an exsposed frame or have a molded aloy body or some sort?

  • it'll probably be all exposed framey. ...unless I cover it in fake purple fur.

  • Pimpin'! lol

  • "Hmmm....." I thought it would run off kittens and candy, for sure. lol j/k Good work, as usual.

  • Ya, I tried kittens and candy, but I kept eating the kittens... i mean the candy. Uhhh.... whaaa???
