Okay I also feel I must inform you, yet again several years to late, that you're using the wrong tool for the job. You need(ed) high grit metal sanding flapper discs. You're using a stone wheel which is not as effective.
Well, really, the amount of power will just relate to how fast it goes. I could gear it down enough that it would run on a 0.001hp motor. Just really slow
As it is, 2hp is more than enough. I think I might actually have to slow it down a bit more than it is now. Its scary!
Maybe you should build a brace thingy that straps on your shoulder or what not for your vid cam as free your hands to make it easier to film and work at the same time... ? :)
motor is not big enuff as for generator try a car system using a A/C generaotor and a battaery to start attaching the the alternaotor to the out put of the motor and keepthingthe recteifier then attachhin the lines to teh battery you will have a conutious supply of eletrcity that way !
haha, harbor view! its funny, i actually have that same central machinery drill press thats shown in the video. 20$, wow, ok thats pretty cheap, thats why i should do my research before buying a dumb co2 tank. urgh!
was it a harbor freight one? cus i use to have one of those. it was good but, like you said, can't weld anything else but steel. i herd today that argon is about twice the expense as co2. is that true?
Ya, Harbor Freight. Or as my dad calls is "Harbor View". ha ha. 60 cubic feet of argon is about 20 bucks. I don't know how much CO2 is. The gas lasts so long, though, its not a major part of the cost.
Its a Craftsman 120 volt mig welder. though not a Lincoln, it still is a great welder. right now i am only on the flux cored stuff but i can weld up to 1/4 inch with it.
sweet. My dad just got a 100$ piece of crap flux cored welder. It works great! I almost feel silly spending 10X that. ....but welding aliminium, and being able to do stainless steel are things I'm pretty psyched about.
i think that refers to the cubic feet of gas. the reason i asked is because i am going to convert my welder to mig and i weld alot so anywase, keep up the good work and look forward to the next vid!
There are some drawer sliders on another part, but I don't think I'll use them for anything else on this machine. I'll use them on future projects. They were still worth getting at the price I got 'em.
Well, I've gone through 5 1lb spoons of aluminium wire on one tank. It was a "60"... and my new tank is an "80". I don't know what those refer to. Weight in lbs maybe???
I'm actually surprised how long a tank lasts. I've done a lot of welding.
yea thats another good point. both eco friendly and cheap. with the solar panels you could probably use a power converter to up the "juice" and store it in a bunch of capacitors or something untill your ready to operate it.
yea i agree with the generator for powering the motor. i mean batteries are great but very heavy and expensive. plus the generator needs no charging time just a gallon of gas and your on your way. Nice job with the motor btw!
Well.... I'm still into batteries. I like the idea of a solar panel sitting on it, and leaving it in the sun to be ready whenever I want. .....no buying gas!
also that moped is pretty rad, you should fix it up if its still there

Those aluminum chunks built up on that grinding wheel can fly off at the darnedest times.

Dude, is that the bandsaw motor? What ever happened to the workshop you were building?

where do you get the ball bearings???????
Hidanclub 1 year ago
WOW... Terrorists attacked the train where your ball bearings were? Maybe they are scared your robot will become a war machine against them.

ratchett ring spanners are the bestest
N1XVAN 2 years ago
yeah, I think its ability to support massive weight would
be based upon its torque, but if you want to lift
trains up or tear ass giant-robot style, you'll probably
want more than 2hp, and definitely more than one
electric motor.

two horsepower? seems a little low... gears or belts i assume will be on it?

naw... the videoing can't get in the way of the building. the building is more important. videoing is distant 2nd.

In my free time I think about flowers, walks on the beach, and uhh... umm... augh! Can't think of anything else girly.
OK OK, all I think about is building things, food, exercise and girls.
...probably in about that order.

A train(moving) without people on it is called a runaway, and those are bad :-(. And even more prone to crashing :-).

Yes, I understand that. That is why it is sometimes difficult fo me to continue at a high productivity. I won't go forward without lucidity.

man dont give up, you almost got it, we have to start a robotic revolution, I have build one of my own too, you inspire me :)
I just posted my video

I'll be in Vermont by April. ...and as soon as the snow melts, I'll be all over the workshop. :-)

will you clarify if drawer sliders are being kept for some other application or did you abandon altogether since ball bearings tended to leak out?

I like my squirt gun. :-)
