I tell ya, that was totally entertaining. The two of you, combining tap dancing a country blues guitar, just blew me away. Very nice pickin and the kid dancing was superb @ dancing to Big Road Blues. Who would have dreamed up this combination? I loved every minute of it. Please post some more!!
@donluke578 Thank you for your comments and encouraging words. I would love to record more with Ben, but he is one busy boy. A real triple threat: Actor, dancer, singer. I believe he is destined for the big time someday. Enjoy.
check out the funny tap dance lesson....the guy sitting on chair wearing migil sweater...lol yours was really good actually but this guy can fly too!...lol
@80Manzanita Thank you for your comment. I feel extremely fortunate to have this video of me and Ben mixin' it up on a Summer day. A real homemade slice of Americana. He is a very talented yound man. A triple threat, actor...singer...dancer. Enjoy.
Thank you for your interest. I have no set schedule. I just decide to busk and go. In additon, I never know where I can set up. I usually like Lexington and 53rd, but if someone is already there I venture off to an alternate location. Happy Holidays. Enjoy.
KeniLee-are yo sur yo weren't born a loonng time ago. yo just play like them ol bluesman-Incredible! Oh, I really don't think he is a tap-dancin, it is more like "flat footing" a form of clogg dancing--ck it out on utube, too. Anyway, he was very entertaining, too. By the way, I am a friend of Big Frankie (Staten Island's best bluesman).
Thank you. I wish I could spend more time with Ben, but he is very busy with school and his theatrical work. He is one of those triple threats: dancer, musician, and actor. Enjoy.
I wish I could have watched this video when I was ill a few years ago. It beats prozac anyday. I had a grin a mile wide after watching. Thanks for sharing.
Guys that was plain awesome!!! Go to Memphis, wear some tattered clothes to play in like the old guys did and DAMN you're doing it! Great stuff as always. Love that guitar too. I almost got ran off youtube when I showed my legs like that ;)
Thank you. We are planning to shoot some more video on the subway platform soon for the documentary that George is making. Right now, it is too darn hot down there. You should check out George's page, marshmelow, he has some great short films he made posted. As for my legs, they ain't getting any better, so you better enjoy them now, because Lord only knows what they will look like in another decade. lol. Thanks again.
Yeah really Ken...thanks for denying that hand shake. We have to jam more often. Keep working on that tan. Also, a heartfelt thanks to everyone for the nice comments...from the REAL star of the video...just kidding. Talk to you soon Ken.
Thanks Ben. Yes, we need to get down to the subway platform soon, and wrap up the Documentary. Hey, white legs or not, you can only wish, you will look as good as me in 40 more years. Just keep dancing and get something up on your page. And yes Ben, you are the REAL star. Talk to you soon.
Thank you for the kind words. The song is Big Road Blues by Tommy Johnson. Now, stop being a wall flower, and start shaking that money maker! lol. Enjoy.
On a more serious note... while you may think your contribution is minor, you, with your videos and CDs, are, in fact, providing a great service to humanity: liberating information; making it free, and freely accessible; peeling back the fingers of ignorance's clutching grasp. Thank you :)
Thank you. My youtube experience has been very positive and encouraging. I have spoken to people from all over the world, and they have express their appreciation for my efforts. I am glad to be able to share my ideas. It is my hope that this information helps someone move way beyond my knowledge and become a great performer.
Hey Keni, great playing, as always, and this time with some SWEET TAPPING! Your man's rythym is def on point, he just needs to relax a bit, be bold with his dancing, and get/look unreasonably excited. Denying the high five at the end was kinda harsh though... :P
Thank you. This is a video of our practice session. If we were ever to perform at Carnegie Hall, I know Ben would be sharp as a tack. I didn't see the high five coming.
Thank you. No, it was made by a professional builder using a very large cigar box I bought on ebay, and the old neck off of my rebuilt 1935 National Duolian. I'm a player, not a builder. If I built it, it would of turned out as an ashtray or gun rack. lol.
Thank you. I would love to spend more time practicing with Ben, but he is one busy boy. He very active in dance, preparing for shows at a local playhouse. He is on a good track destined for a great career.
Great performance as usual friend. I honestly enjoy all your videos, great tone with a voice that just adds/suits (to) the overall authentic feel of which your videos possess. Be well.
Thank you for the encouragement. Playing songs in open tuning with a strong melody line has greatly improved my singing. All you have to do is learn to match your voice with the notes being played by the slide. The other great revelation was learning to tune the guitar to my pitch, and not trying to fit my voice to the guitar. No wonder all those Blues Masters were never in concert pitch. They used their ears, and tuned to what sounded good. Thanks again.
Thank you. Actually, we just nailed a few bottle caps to his feet, off of old orange Nehi pop bottles. lol. (Nehi pronounced like knee high, is a flavored soft drink originated in America. It was introduced in 1924 by the Chero-Cola/Union Bottle Works. The Nehi Corporation name was adopted in 1928 after the Nehi fruit-flavored sodas became popular. In 1955, the company changed its name to Royal Crown Company.)
Thank you. This is a video of Ben and me practicing on a Saturday afternoon, before we go down to the NYC subway platform to shoot video for the upcoming documentary.
Thank you. Ya, Ben is a real Hoofer. He studies and teaches dance class, in addition to perfoming professionally. Of course, now it's the summer, but during the year there is school too. He came over one Saturday afternoon to practice with old Keni Lee. It is a lot of fun to play guitar against his foot tappin' rhythm. We are a couple of Green Machines. Lower that carbon footprint! Thanks again.
Thank you. I think the next thing I should do is, drive a few large nails into that there support post, wrap a piece of bailing wire across them, and make me an old Diddley Bo. Where is that empty bottle of Everclear? Too bad I don't live in one of those galvinized steel shot gun shacks. The sound would be great. Here we go! lol.
