That might be the dumbest statement I've ever heard. Granted, net-decks are a bit more tuned, but net-decks comprise a "meta-game." As Icipher7 said, Conley Woods took a brew and won a 900-person Grand Prix. What he did was attack a meta filled with people who net-decked and played stock lists (like you).

Caleb Durward did the same thing for GP Chicago with his UG Madness Survival deck. And the winner of that tournament (Saito) used innovation to shore up his Zoo match-up.

I tested solar flare vs RDW a few times, but KotH didnt do well vs the wurmcoil engines + copies from the phantasmal immages. even tho the clones die easily vs red, you still get the 2 tokens out of them.

Only played this game a few times a few years ago. Hell, I don't even know about these cards at all. But I know enough about card games and strategy games in general to know that the metagame will kill people who consistently use the obvious. Playing simply to not die is not good enough. I've heard of players who use whole decks that would otherwise suck hard, be a hard counter to so many players (even professionals) who play only for the popular "stable" standard.

@megabrowser17 Not dying is a very large part of that deck's gameplan. That's really all it needs to do until it can get its finishers online because other decks mostly just can't beat them coming back over and over again.

While you are right in that metagame _sometimes_ kills the obvious choices, a lot of things are good enough that being obvious doesn't make them all that much worse.

And in MtG a deck doesn't suck hard if it rapes the current meta, that means it is a good deck. In that meta.

@megabrowser17 It's kind of the other way around right now, they've been taking the power level downwards and the new cards seem weaker in general than what we were used to for the last few years so mana leak just shines by being really good.

It's one of those basic building blocks for blue control decks where not playing it is usually just wrong because it's the best tool for doing its thing. That's the way I see it at least.
