Got one for 300 pounds. The routing is absolutely awesome and it's even solved a few software/hardware issues I was having with my White Saffire and Liquid Mix 16. Only gripe is the 2 Pre-amps on the front, the lack of DSP effects and I wish every channel had independent Phantom Power.

i have had my saffire pro 40 for over a week, and i still cant get it to work with my cubase, this product fucking sucks DONT BUY IT!!!!!! the help through focusrite isnt helpfull at all and all the youtube videos dont help either.
@TAKEPRIDE916 I had mine for a day and I thought something was wrong. It turns out I just needed a little more time to understand how to set the unit up. Now it's fantastic!! What is the problem with yours?
@TAKEPRIDE916 i have the same problem. i have cubase studio 5. Setting up is a pain in the ass. it has taken me. I can't figure out how to hear back what I have recorded.
I've done plenty of research on interfaces, and the Pro 40 paired with the Octopre looks to be my best option. However, information regarding it's ability to interface with FL Studio is scarce. Unfortunately, this seems to be a grey area in general when looking for any audio equipment. Basically, before I buy I'd like to know if the unit would be a good match. Can anyone using it to MIDI control/record many synthesizers into FL Studio tell me how it runs? This is al that's holding me back...
am a rapper and will only be recording myself for now and then a few bands later. and am also looking at the behringer c3 condenser mic. what do you think? or would you recommend another mic within the price range. thanks. please reply
BEGINNERS!! Bloody spelling mistakes!!! I'm tired. But seriously, i have not yet managed to hear a single thing through the interfaces headphone output. I have followed the "tutorial" as best as i can and done what it says, as far as i can understand it at least. The tutorial is not designed for beginners like myself but more for people who have some kind of working knowledge of computer recording in some capacity. Please sort this out, i'm not alone as i'm sure you're aware by previous posts.

I've given up on the bundled Ableton as it's too convoluted and absolutely not beginner friendly and have been playing around with a trial of Mixcraft, and find it so much simpler. I have actually recorded something as it shows up on the software, so i know i can do that much. What i can't do is hear anything, wether monitoring while playing or playback!!!

Hello! We really need help, so if anyone at ALL can help us out, it would be great! Our problem is that we just got the Saffire Pro 40 working on Pro Tools 9. It records great but our only problem is that it is not playing back on neither the monitors or headphones (both are by the way plugged in to their perspective inputs.) CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP?
i know this may sound like a very stupid question but i'm use to the mbox mini and protools... but my question was, is there any singal processors i can hook up to the focusrite saffire pro 40 that will give me a better more clean recording out the gate? (i.e. sound enhancers, exciters, signal routers, or feedback supressors?) please help! i want the best sound out of my equipment...
I've been using the saffire pro40 since last year, and I was very happy with it. I just bought another pro 40 so I could connect them and get 16 channels for a live recording session. But it seems that this is not as easy as it is being advertised given that although I could connect these with a firewire cable, they do not show up in my logic as seperate inputs.!!! Can you help me with this?
Please help: I have my Dynaudios coming out of 1+2 and 2 pairs of headphones which I use to work with, too. Is there a way of muting the monitors but still being able to hear the sound coming through the headphones very quickly? With my old interface, I used to turn the small external mixer master down so I was just left with the headphone level, and then turn it back up but would like to eliminate the mixer from my setup.
Is there a way I can control the faders and buttons on the Saffire Mix Control with a hardware midi controller like the AKAI APC20. I want to use real faders to operate the saffire Mix Control
CAN ANYONE HELP! i just bought the saffire pro 40. Installed both cds that came with it. How do i start recording? When i open my saffire mixcontrol, i don't see any record buttons etc. Can anyone help? i usually use pro tools 8, but as u can tell it it won't work with my interface. i know pt9 will, but i still don't have enough for that. i need step by step instructions! please help!
Hi, I have been using this great piece of kit for home recording for nearly a couple of years. Highly recommended! But I have recently lost all control of the monitor functions on the bottom right of the control panel. With the HW Control on/off or the monitor presets on/off it stays the same. A bit annoying as I have to manually turn off monitors every time. Any suggestions?
Guys can you help? I have the Saffire Pro 24 connected to My Quested's and Computer, everything works fine in Cubase etc. I connected my Technics Decks and Technics SH Mixer to Line Input 1 but it only plays in Mono in the Saffire Mixer, how do i route it to stereo Monitors? Also How would i then record from my decks into Cubase?? Please help
HELP please??!! i want to purchase pro 40 i wonder if connecting it into my 4 pin 1394 fireware in my laptop(i have only one 1394) will not cause any latency useing all 8 channels..or do i need fireware 800??
would be great to have the software mixer with midi learn capability so that one could us a midi controller such as e.g. UC-33 to control the faders. And even cooler to have this function available in stand alone mode. :) After all, the PRO 40 has a midi input.
Im just a beginner, and I have a question. Can I use the 40 without using that Mixer? Im kinda new to everything recording, and i want this interface pretty badly. The one thing that is confusing to me is hte Mixer part of it. Can I record in my DAW and thats it? If i did use the mixer it would just be mixing on one track for my drums and thats it. How would that be done?
In the beginning of the video you're explaining that the usage of interfaces/dsp untits connected to one firewire bus (or hub / 2nd bus in the interface) on for instance a macbook pro wouldn't work?
So if this is the case how can I use the saffire pro 40 + the liquidmix on my macbook pro? because switching all the time doesn't seem like a perfect way to use both units. Please advice since I really want to buy the saffire pro40 but i'm not sure i can still use my liquidmix?
Would this run well with Sonar Cakewalk? And if it does, would you be able to record multiple instruments at once on separate channels? So Guitar runs through channel 1 separately, and bass on ch 2; While in sonar on different tracks respectively?
I installed my Saffire Pro 24 DSP already and I installed Saffire MixControl but for some reason it's not showing up as an audio driver under my system preferences. What do I need to do?
I just purchased the focusrite pro 40 - its look nice and a good choice. I do have the following problem: At the first (by luck) I could mute the monitor speakers and hear from the headphones by just clicking the monitor mute and volume was controlled from the headphone volume- if possible can you please help me what do i need to do to obtain this option again - thank you
Hi!!! one question, if i link this unit with an Octopre MK2 by the optical connection, can i record 16 tracks at 24bits/48Khz? i mean the firewire protocol support it? by the way i'm using a Cubase5 for Windows 7 on a Intel CoreII duo P8400 @ 2.3 Ghz with 4GbRAM
Hi, i just bought Saffire Pro 40. I am pretty satisfied. But the only thing that bugs me is the low output level... I have KRK Rokit 8, i used Edirol UA-5 before and the output level was OK.
In the Mix Control app, the output is setted to hardware control.
I listen music, and even if the output is setted on level10, it's not so much loud...
I turned the volume of my KRK to + 6db, but it's no enough to get the same output level that i had with my UA-5.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is so frickin retarded. i would totally get this if it didnt come with this super confusing digital mixer thing. why cant i just use it as a normal audio interface, not pay any attention to the mixer it comes with and just do everyhting inside cubse. can i use the mixer in cubase and everyhing, or do i have to use the focusrite mixer thing in this vid? it just dosnt make sense
@xXKRoweXx It's not necessary to use the digital mixer. The default setting for the Pro 40 allows you to hear everything anyway. This mixer gives you more flexibility if you want to use it, but if you don't want to use it, you don't have to. I recommend checking out the Focusrite setup video for Cubase as this guides you through how to setup Cubase for use with the Pro 40.
@focusritenovation not for me. nothing is bloody working and i've tried on two different computers. no headphone sounds, or on the monitors. this mixcontrol interface is mental.
Wow, you're right - all these great features are frickin retared. I would totally get this if it didn't come with this super amazing and highly configurable digital mixer. I mean why can't this just be a normal audio interface? Why would I lift a brain cell to try and understand a great piece of hardware. I wonder why the world doesn't make things easy all the tiime for me? Why should I have to think about things? I mean, c'mon, I'm not paying to think, right?
This is the most confusing piece of software I have ever used. After 2 hours of head-csratching, I had to phone focusrite just to route my guitar input to another output. Overblown tecchie-button-pushing nonsense. I have this software on my saffire 14, I have watched this video 3 times and still do not understand it's principles. What's the point in setting up separate mixes for each band member when it only has one headphone output? NOT user friendly

@xXKRoweXx i think the word that describes this feature is the opposite of retarded. the word advanced is a lot more accurate. You can use it as a simple interface, it is not focusrite's fault you do not know how to operate recording gear :)
@dontkissass Unfortunately this is not possible. In order to use ADAT at 96K you can only use 4 channels over one connection. At 44.1 or 48 you can use 8 channels.
@dontkissass Hardly anyone records at 96k even for major label releases. Plus if you are going to use this interface and the digi003 preamps or inputs you are just wasting disk space with the extra resolution.
Hi, I am interested in purchasing the pro 40. I got a question regarding the stand alone mode. Does stand alone mode means without opening my DAW but having the pro 40 still connected to the pc or stand alone means the unit has to be totally disconnect form the pc? the reason i am asking this is because i'll like to play my hardware synth connecting to the pro 40 without launching DAW.
@testTubehyn Standalone means when disconnected from a computer, without a FireWire connection. You can route the Pro 40's inputs to its outputs when connected to your computer without launching the DAW or in standalone mode, so you could hear your synth in either configuration.
Could the Pro 40 be used as a stand alone pre amp unit and use the adat out to another unit or must the Pro 40 be connected to a computer to route the signals to the adat output?
@zkranz0 No, standalone mode refers to running the Pro 40 without a computer, to run audio through it. You can route any input to the ADAT outputs and run the Pro 40 without a computer.
@focusritenovation Wow, how convenient! An interface and standalone preamp expansion unit! Are there going to be updates or anything soon? I'm very interested in buying!
@zkranz0 We are constantly updating the Pro 40's software. There are no major issues with the current Pro 40 software therefore no need to wait for any software updates.
@deckfour Cubase will see it as an input/output device but the control software is used to choose what output from Cubase goes to which output on the Pro 40 or to set up zero latency monitoring.
Once the control software is set up according to your intended use, you need not open it again.
Gotta say , I'm EXTREMELY happy with my Pro 24 DSP. Customer service has also been wonderful too. No crackling or popping, its def. a huge difference from my older creative X-fi pro.
@lazernteebbee search for "Focusrite Sonar" and you will find a tutorial for setting up Sonar. Please follow this and contact Focusrite support if you continue to experience problems.
I bought the Presonus Firestudio Project and I'm glad I did. As for the poster that said the Presonus preamps aren't that good, that's comical. The Firestudio has went above and beyond my expectations. Plus I got it on sale so it was cheaper than the Saffire Pro.
I am trying to decide between the Saffire Pro 40 and the Presonus Firestudio Project. I'm leaning toward this interface. The Saffire looks very cool and I've heard nothing but awesome reviews. Anyone used this?
I've been using this for at least a year. Absolutely satisfied with the sound quality, the driver stability and the routing flexibility. The people at Focusrite have done it again. :-)
@ragzy02 Get the Focusrite. I've had a Presonus Firestudio 2626 which is like the project. It's nice but has issues. I don't have the best vid on it but check it out. Someone made a comment in it that they got the Saffire 56 and I talked to him. He's really happy with it and reccommends it after returning his Presonus. Another person commenting here below had a Presonus too and upgraded to the Saffire 56.
@ragzy02 I originally bought the presonus firestudio project and the software was awful and crashed the computer every time. It was unusable on both my computers. I returned it and bought the Saffire Pro 40 and it's soooo much better!!! Works perfectly unless you try to change the mixer settings in the driver software while recording in cubase, then cubase loses the signal.
@AdmiralBud Cubase shouldn't lose signal from this. Does it happen as soon as you click away from Cubase into the Saffire MixControl software? If so, you should deselect "Release Driver when Application is in Background" in device setup.
Actually it was losing the signal a few seconds after i made adjustments in the mixcontrol. I will try what you suggest when I get it back, it's currently on loan to a friend. It is an excellent piece of kit!
we are using in our recording sessions the 56 (focusrite liquid saffire 56), well i can tell that was the best achievement we did, we upgraded from the steinberg mr816, for a presonus firewire studio, and now finally the liquid 56!!! no chance the better one!! i can tell you that is not a matter of opinion!! is just the way it is!lool, tx guys
Chuck at Sam Ash in Raleigh, NC advised me to choose this Focusrite over the presonus for the features, I'm defenitely very confident in purchasing one of these for my portable studio after seeing this video. Thanks for the great vid!!

I listen music, and even if the output is setted on level10, it's not so much loud...
I turned the volume of my KRK to + 6db, but it's no enough to get the same output level that i had with my UA-5.
Please help!!!

@11UN11 Actually, i think there' s (–20dB) attenuation switch but i don't know how to use. Maybe it could fix the problem.

I found it by myself, i share it to you for those who as the same problem...

this is so frickin retarded. i would totally get this if it didnt come with this super confusing digital mixer thing. why cant i just use it as a normal audio interface, not pay any attention to the mixer it comes with and just do everyhting inside cubse. can i use the mixer in cubase and everyhing, or do i have to use the focusrite mixer thing in this vid? it just dosnt make sense
xXKRoweXx 1 year ago

Hello, can i get 16 tracks to record at 96k with 8 tracks coming from Digi003rack+
and eight from adat through the Sapphire Pro 40. or at least 12 tracks at 96k
Thanks.
dontkissass 1 year ago
@dontkissass Unfortunately this is not possible. In order to use ADAT at 96K you can only use 4 channels over one connection. At 44.1 or 48 you can use 8 channels.
focusritenovation 1 year ago
@dontkissass Hardly anyone records at 96k even for major label releases. Plus if you are going to use this interface and the digi003 preamps or inputs you are just wasting disk space with the extra resolution.

Hi, I am interested in purchasing the pro 40. I got a question regarding the stand alone mode. Does stand alone mode means without opening my DAW but having the pro 40 still connected to the pc or stand alone means the unit has to be totally disconnect form the pc? the reason i am asking this is because i'll like to play my hardware synth connecting to the pro 40 without launching DAW.
testTubehyn 1 year ago
@testTubehyn Standalone means when disconnected from a computer, without a FireWire connection. You can route the Pro 40's inputs to its outputs when connected to your computer without launching the DAW or in standalone mode, so you could hear your synth in either configuration.
focusritenovation 1 year ago
@focusritenovation Wow! thanks for the fast reply. will be heading to my local store tomorrow. thanks again!
testTubehyn 1 year ago
@focusritenovation
I still haven't figured out how to play through the pro40 without turning on my computer - would be great to sort that out.
fatchanceband 1 year ago
Could the Pro 40 be used as a stand alone pre amp unit and use the adat out to another unit or must the Pro 40 be connected to a computer to route the signals to the adat output?
zkranz0 1 year ago
@zkranz0 Yes, the Pro 40 can be used as a standalone pre amp and the analogue inputs can be routed to the ADAT outputs to be used in standalone mode.
focusritenovation 1 year ago
@focusritenovation Okay but I guess my overall question is, do you need a computer to route the audio through the ADAT outputs?
zkranz0 1 year ago
@zkranz0 No, standalone mode refers to running the Pro 40 without a computer, to run audio through it. You can route any input to the ADAT outputs and run the Pro 40 without a computer.
focusritenovation 1 year ago
@focusritenovation Wow, how convenient! An interface and standalone preamp expansion unit! Are there going to be updates or anything soon? I'm very interested in buying!
zkranz0 1 year ago
@zkranz0 We are constantly updating the Pro 40's software. There are no major issues with the current Pro 40 software therefore no need to wait for any software updates.
focusritenovation 1 year ago
do I have to use the control software, or will Cubase just see it as an input output device and let me use it as an audio interface?
deckfour 1 year ago
@deckfour Cubase will see it as an input/output device but the control software is used to choose what output from Cubase goes to which output on the Pro 40 or to set up zero latency monitoring.
Once the control software is set up according to your intended use, you need not open it again.

Gotta say , I'm EXTREMELY happy with my Pro 24 DSP. Customer service has also been wonderful too. No crackling or popping, its def. a huge difference from my older creative X-fi pro.

i can't hear playback in Sonar 8.5 ....tried everything ...changed output drivers grrrrrrrr
I can hear the input on my headphone but not on play back ....haven't tried the rear outs yet . just way to get a headphone mix going for now.

Anyone used this?
ragzy02 2 years ago
I've been using this for at least a year. Absolutely satisfied with the sound quality, the driver stability and the routing flexibility. The people at Focusrite have done it again. :-)
cyclopss2009 2 years ago
@ragzy02 saffire>anything presonus man, the pre amps by presonus are not that good
derrick3313 2 years ago
@ragzy02 Get the Focusrite. I've had a Presonus Firestudio 2626 which is like the project. It's nice but has issues. I don't have the best vid on it but check it out. Someone made a comment in it that they got the Saffire 56 and I talked to him. He's really happy with it and reccommends it after returning his Presonus. Another person commenting here below had a Presonus too and upgraded to the Saffire 56.
TheFutureLooksGrimm 2 years ago
@ragzy02 I originally bought the presonus firestudio project and the software was awful and crashed the computer every time. It was unusable on both my computers. I returned it and bought the Saffire Pro 40 and it's soooo much better!!! Works perfectly unless you try to change the mixer settings in the driver software while recording in cubase, then cubase loses the signal.
AdmiralBud 2 years ago
@AdmiralBud Cubase shouldn't lose signal from this. Does it happen as soon as you click away from Cubase into the Saffire MixControl software? If so, you should deselect "Release Driver when Application is in Background" in device setup.
focusritenovation 2 years ago

Thanks for the great vid!!

does anyone know how to set this up in traktor,... i want to be able to monitor the mix and hear it out my master speakers.
it seems that what ever plays of my headphones comes out of the speakers too. Is the main outs 1, 2 connected to the headphone out 8 ?
thanks
