yup old skool is da best . i was doing just the same back then , wish i had recorded our crew . but never thought as we all just thought it was life and not like today a chance to get on britains got talent etc . but let me tell ya i teach drama now , im 46 and to get the kids respect i throw a windmill/ flares . yaaaaay cool old man at work
Nice vid! Reminds me of those days. By '85 I had stopped breaking but was reallying into it from 82 to about 84. I bet these kids were housing it up by the 90's right? LOL! That was the progression of things in the good ol NYC :)
My Inspiration to keep learning today. Always kept breakin' in my heart. Though I couldn't do it back then because of an over-protective and lock down dad, I am doing it today! Thanks for the Vid! That shit is F-R-E-S-H!
Cool video! I had just entered my teen years in the early 80's and I remember how much fun it was during that era of hip hop. I wish we'd recorded some of old living room sessions. lol If you haven't already transferred it to DVD you should!
Todays breakers are far more advanced...however, we laid the foundation for what it is today. The Rock Steady Crew were our heroes of the genre back then. The NYC Breakers also were phenominal dancers. Thanks for the kinds words.
Sorry to say, none of us are in the breakdancing business anymore. But if you check out my site and watch the "The Battle" you will witness me trying to do it one last time against the girls of my nieces gradutating class. Funtimes.
Sick dude!!!!! Much respect to the oldschool also one of my favorite songs to break too!!!! LOVE IT!!You all were good dude i enjoyed this vid very much =)
that's madd dope yoo...a nice little brotherly collaberation of b boying...i wanna learn that move when ur in a crab walkin position and u twist ur leg around and ur upper body follow...wats that call?
there weren't any back then. just the old powermoves. this is the mid 80's which is when bboy was around... 7-10 years old? the power moves we have now mostly came from the 90's
actually ur very wrong, bboys been doing flares since thomas flares came out, which wuz between the late 70s and early 80s. bboy power has been going on since new york city breakers come along, and thats a long long time ago..... thurrs like only 2 power moves that are new, which iz air flares and 2000s, some dope ass power that wuz done in the old days are not really done no more. get ur facts stright dude.
Whats up! is Russ, George, Chubby, and i cant make out the rest but anyway i went school wit you guys this is Yohan! Yea! that vid brings me back boys. Much luv and ALOHA!!!!!!
Yes, George Casey, Russ Inouye, Chubby Bruhn, Reynolds Siu and Kevin Ng...remember them guys? We also had Grant Tanaka, but he wasnt on the video...the one he's on I dont have...sh!t! Brah, good to actually get one comment from one of our Hawaii's own...you have a good one brah!
Old Skool was called Breakin' and didn't involve all of that head-spinning and flopping. During the '70s, you "Broke" standing, with maybe a little getting low, with your head upright.
Dammn I missed those old days of b-boys you just never run out of energy once you hear the bass beat. You guys are good.Did you guys competed on that old show "Breaking Hawaii"?
Nope...never got tha chance to compete on that show. Are you from hawaii? Do you know anyone who may have some copies of that show? Mahalo for the warm comments.

Classique!!
ak4142 4 years ago
These guys were my crew...we were called the Funky Boys based in Kaneohe, Hawaii. This video is 22 years old.
The first guy who came out sits in prison for spouse abuse.
The second guy I havent seen in 20 years.
The third guy has his own line of skateboarding and surfing clothing.
The fourth guy is me...I now work with mental patients in a State Hospital.
The last guy is a drug dealer and if he's not in prison yet, he's headed there soon.
Glad you liked the video...enjoy. Aloha.
