  • Nice thought Doc

  • im late but this video was good

  • so oprah says all that BS but disrespects some Rap artists? i dont understand. She just makes me sick. so we all supposed to give credit to all white folks. screw her. what about our black history Imhotep? What about Kemmet? what about our REAL history not this fake bs please.

  • i wished i had gone to HOward. not easy to know when our history has been erased. nice to see oprah up there.. finally some blacks in the audience. not like her tv show had many blacks in audience when she gives away CARS, etc.

  • Oprah speech is so touching I felt bliss , u r lucky that u heard her speech ;)

  • "I got some White folks working for me!" BEST LINE LMAO! sas culera!

  • What are you doing here?!? If you have issues with the Black community why don't you just stay away from us...Only a coward will write things they cannot say in person.

  • "My integrity is not for sale!" Now that is a quote to live by!

  • Oprah, I congratulate you and all graduates of Howard University!

  • I was here. Loved her speech.

  • OMG this is such a beautiful video! You must be so proud! To have not one, but TWO amazing sons. you are truly blessed!

  • I really want to go to Howard for my Ph.D. Its my dream school!!

  • WOW! I just transferred to Howard this year and right now I admit things are a little hard sometimes I wonder if I'm smart enough and right now while howard is very affordable I can barely afford it and Im struggling a little bit.I wanted to give up and just go back home but things are starting to get better this video is amazing and Its given me new strength and Congratulations to your son he is living my dream I cant wait to graduate Law School one day but I know Im on the right path now

  • why was she given that degree?

  • great

  • congratulations!

  • @eugehastheblues Finally a white person that understands....thank you. Share your knowledge with your counterparts. Its not about racism, it's about pride in your heritage and the only time that presents a problem is when you use that pride to deny other's thier life liberty and persuit of happiness which we aren't trying to do at all. Different cultures are a wonderful thing. Our differences are what makes us unique and interesting. Why erase that. Everyone isn't the same, embrace that.

  • It cracks me up how some white people have the gull to scream racism. As far as I'm concerned, in a country where you all have control and power of almost everything....give me a break. White people have tried to destroy us in this country and we have overcome. It is important for us to preserve our legacy. I am tired of trying to get white people to understand the difference between self pride and racism. The difference is, we aren't tying to deny anyone their civil rights.

  • i was there

  • this speech kept me going

  • Wow, this was an inspiring video to watch. Not only Oprah speech but also your sons' accomplishments. I am beginning my jr year in College and hope to continue on th law school as well. Thanks for posting it made my day.

  • I watch this video now and again to keep me focused. I am successful partly because I can see people like me, like Oprah and then I can relate. [sigh] just really good to see when you are bogged down with college and there seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel...

  • Hey, I hear you. Please don't give up. There is always a light...even if you can't see it. Still, try to enjoy the ride, because college days can be the best days of your life.

  • i agree with the person below me. DO NOT GIVE UP. Hard work pays off. I am also at university at the moment in England, and it's a tough uni, i'll tell you that, and sometimes u learn things you cannot relate to, bt in my spare time i pick up some John Henrik Clarke, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Marimba Ani - and they help me to focus on my roots, and not lose myself! Blessings!

  • Thank you for this BEAUTIFUL video! I am truly inspired. Thanks again for sharing such a creative video.

  • CMGrant07 you must not go to HU. Howard was founded by the Freedmans Bureau to educate freed slaves. We are proudly historically Black, for people of African descent around the world. It's in the mission.

  • Oprah isn't racist, she simply embraces the rich legacy of African-Americans.

As a proud graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences in May 2007, I'm grateful for the poster of this vid. Thanks!

  • Any and all students from any race or ethnic background are welcome to attend Howard. SInce 1867, when HU opened its doors, it's been that way. We presently are rated as having one of the most diverse international populations of any campus.

  • A few points of reference:

    a) Howard is a HISTORICALLY black college which means a majority of its students are of African descent (from across the world), primarily b/ c they were barred from other places for 100's of yrs.

  • Its hard to go back to school when u are a multimillionaire but thats what Oprah did a few years ago and graduated from TSU .

Bless U Howard for this honor for Oprah!

    Morehouse...? We're waiting...

  • imm be there in a couple years

  • Howard is the only university i've ever wanted to attend..hope i get n two years

  • You will. Just put one foot in front of the other and don't stop. You will make it!

  • @crshowstoppa09 Did you get in?

  • what an amaizing saying .. oprah !!

  • whenever i feel doubt within my heart about my future i would listen to this speech over and over again and feel motivated. this is a real life experience about someone so ordinary and yet so extraordinary. i'll be graduating in one more year and will forever remember this speech, it takes me along this difficult road to find my ultimate calling. thank you Oprah and for the one who posted this. God bless!

  • my sister was there!!! nice.

  • Congradutlations

  • While watching this I wondered how it would go over if the word "black" was replaced with the word "white". I live 10 miles from HU and I don't appreciate the first speaker's remarks about anything being "all black" - school, restaurant, church or store.

Racism works both ways and this was proof.

  • But there ARE all black schools, built when all white schools would not let us in. There are still all white establishments. All Korean. All Latino. That's not racist. That's what it is. Difference is, there were more than a few white students graduating from Howard. We do not exclude.

  • Congratualtions to the graduates of HU! May God forever bless you in your journey throughout life. Thank you for such an excellent inspiring video. I am working hard to make it to law school, and I must say that this video has helped me along my journey. Again thank you and congratualations.

  • I love this dude.

    But where Elvis,Lincoln,Kennedy,Michael Jackson,M L King,Carter failed Oprah succeded.

These ppl are helpin this shitty world evolve and they are tearing them down with jealous and selfishness. Mankind have got to be the stupidest creation in the entire history of the cosmos. They are keepin their own asses down.

  • Great video! I enjoyed it very much.

May God bless you and your family. I know you have a great "village"

  • Having just graduated from university this year I found this video incredibly moving. I'm not sure what the future now holds for me, but Oprah has given me hope and a vision for my future.

I may live all the way in London, England but she is a huge inspiration for me and has put my fears into perspective.

I am now ready to take on the world!

  • Sweetheart, if this racist gives you a vision for your future, I worry about your future.

  • You know it is sad you call Oprah a racist when she has worked with and supported more people of more races than anyone I can think of. Help me understand. Why do you call her a racist? Because she said white people work for her? We should be so lucky. How exactly is she racist? Explain.

  • Have you listened to her speech? If the entire scholastic system wasn't european, it would be funny. As things stand, it's a sick parody and a twisted truth. We are NOT black or white first and foremost, whatever Oprah and her ilk like to believe. Get over your skin.

  • Thank you sooo much for uploading this video, I've been pondering whether or not to go to my graduation, but after watching this I think I'm gonna go...Oprah is such an inspiration, and I'm from Britain!

  • Oh and since you turned this into a "she's done this, and you've done what?" discussion. I spend 40+hours a week at work, I've gone back to school, and my free time goes toward volunteering with underprivileged kids. So yeah I guess I don't do much.

  • Your contributions to society were never in question--glad you are doing positive things. I know nothing about you. YOU questioned Oprah not being smart enough to get a degree unless it is honorary. But, what leads you to say Oprah is not smart enough to receive a College Degree? Her smarts has her employing hundreds of people and helping far more individuals than you and I put together. She shares her wealth. That's smart, to me.

  • Bullshit. You specifically said here's what Oprah does what do you do?

Being a talkshow host doesnt' require a brain and she actually has people who run Harpo.

  • This is what I said in Black and White: Who amassed more wealth and has positively effected more people, you or her?

Nothing about what did you do.

  • Ohh Art how bitter art thou??? lol you are extremely unhappy with your existence and it's sad its very doubtful you do any volunteer work who would want to be around you for free? Envy is a deadly sin

  • You do a lot, Arthur. You forgot to say that you are also mean as a wet hen. Go 'way. I see you have some interesting videos on your page. You might be suffering from "Red Neckitis."

Symptoms..Coming around and saying ugly things. You need some social conditioning so you'll learn how to act in polite company.Carry on.

  • who sings the gospel song at the end of this video??

  • The Howard University Choir.

  • Oprah isn't smart enough to get any other kind of degree than an honorary one.

  • Hmmmm. Not smart enough? Let's see. Who amassed more wealth and has positively effected more people, you or her?

  • u sound jealous

  • Oprah has a degree from either Fisk University or some other school in Tenn. Do your research.

  • Great video...thanks for sharing.

  • i don't get it did oprah get a degree?

  • An honorary doctorate is what many schools issue to those who have earned their "letters" with their life's work. It also ensures that those of note will attend the graduation which boosts the students' big day.

  • Excellent video and congrats... Does anyone have Oprah's complete speech?

    Please PLEASE PLEASE Please POST:)

  • The University has it and it may be available in the bookstore. It is worth getting. Thanks for watching! IPL

  • congrats to you for raising two successful sons. please encourage them to give back to their community. there are young black men who need them desperately.

  • wonderful video. ur zoom on ur camera is AWESOME!

  • This is really good, very well edited. I myself was just accepted into the grad school and this is very inspirational to me, can't wait to get there.

  • Good video!

My dream is to go to howard when i graduate and this video has definately motivated me even more!

  • Blessings to you that your dream is realized and you will enjoy Howard as much as my son did. If you don't stop, you WILL get there! IPL

  • Thanks! I tell everyone that thats where I AM going. And next summer i am going to visit Howard. Im excited. The support there is unbelieveable!

  • Why the fuck is she "DR Oprah Winfrey"?

I don't want her operating on me.

  • It's Dr. of Humanities, my dear.

  • YOU BETTER PREACH OPRAH

  • Thank you so much for posting this. It is so beautiful. I wish I had the sense then to have gone to Howard. Your family is beautiful. God keep and bless them and you as well!

  • What a great video. I wish "arbitratusmoirae" would look up the history of black colleges and educate himself on the reason for the existence of such institutions. Futhermore, as far as history being "theirs" and "ours," it is ours, fool. However we still hold that collective bond, but still never forgetting where we came from.

  • YES YES YES!!!!

Thanks for generously sharing this video

I was really moved. Congratulations, lots of love and thanks again.

  • you're one mess! please go get some help for yourself. You deserve to be better!

  • GO HU!!!!!!!! HU HU HU HU!!!!!

  • The problem is that they talk about "their" history, not "ours". Like be acknowledged by "one's own people" and "black college". I hear cries of racism and segregation, but the only people doing that are black Americans--to themselves. This is coming from a white guy, who has never once been a majority "ethnic group" at any of my 9 schools growing up.

  • Congrats my brotha. You continue to do your thing with grace, power and integrity and you can't go wrong, you just CAN'T!!! Now that I know for sure. From one brotha to anotha!

  • I am white and I don't understand why other white people get upset when Oprah speaks about her heritage and history! This is very important for her to spread the message to African Americans as well as all of us! I just love her and what she stands for! Thanks for sharing!

  • Oprah is an inspiration. Fantastic speech.

  • thank you so much for putting this video on the tube. i will be graduating from Howard in 2009. praise god. congratulations to both graduates!

  • fab video!!!

  • PREACH OPRAH!!

  • Thank you for sharing this video, from a GW law grad. Oprah Winfrey's speech was very touching...she is a wise woman, and we need role models in this world. Thank you.

  • I too am a God believe, but I know there we differ in many views. While that is true, Oprah Winfrey has always been my inspiration because what she has learned in her tough life all the way until she was 40 the lessons she has learned has truly impacted me.

  • oprah is anything but racist. she is a strong black woman who grew up in a time when black ppl could only hope to maids. that was the point of her anecdote. she did get white folks in the end they were just working for her.

  • Amen to that it resonated strongly in my spirit.

  • i dont understand, why are black people are so racist? Oprah sound like she's actually talking to people who can relate to slavery. I mean discrimination is prevalent for anyone who doesnt fit into the norm, especially because of skin color and the way a person looks, but i dont understand why this speech is something to praise, rather then to be in complete awe of how inhuman we can all be at times.

  • you need to learn more about American history first. Once you have a better understanding of the Whole Picture, you will better understand Ms. Winfrey's speech. Just get an "the complete idiot's guide to African American History". It does a good job at giving an overview of a lot of things. Once you've read it, write back.

  • I was there, a Communications graduate. Very hot that day. Anyways, i didnt know that jaaye finished this year? Tell him Congrats! =)

  • Thank you so much for giving me the chance to experience such a powerful message. im a college student going through one of the hardest times in my life. i needed to hear this. Praise the Lord!

  • Please...whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP. If you don't stop you will make it. Everyone you see who has graduated has been where you are. We need you! Yes...praise Him high.

  • preach on Dr. winfrey.

  • POP YOUR COLLAR STRONG BROTHER! I am going back to school. That did it for me.

    Thank You

  • Thank you for posting this. Humm, wonder why this was not in the news? Thank U.

  • It was on the news. She was taken to task for her comment about who is working for her.

  • Thanks for the video...it is truly an inspiration...God Bless you and your family. Oprah's message can easily apply to all people who are going through various transitions in their life.

  • Oprah is truly amazing...I think Chris Rock had a point when he said "I pray there's a God...I know there'a an Oprah!" Congrats bro on your crowning achievement.

  • I wonder if she wrote her own speech.

  • What an inspiration she is. Lord knows we needed an Oprah in this century.

  • congratulations! this video is very inspiring..
