@2nvabs Yeah, i've noticed that sound too on other vids of engines running with no exhaust... even little single cylinder types. Thanks for looking and commenting
Oh ow.. the "whoop whoop whoop" sound reminded me of my old VB/SLE that I had 12 years ago with the same engine. IIRC that sound is the mechanical fuel pump??
Man I miss my VB. It was a 79 model yet it had AC, power windows, power steering it was mint.
@chomby1991991 You won't have to move the radiator, as in all Holdens, a V8 sits "two cylinders' worth" back from the front of where a 6 cylinder would be in the engine bay. The main problems you will have are "do I have to cut the inner guards to clear the exhaust?" and "is this driveline strong enough for a 253?"
thong clapper...lol ..thats funny...the 253 was a tradies motor in a ute worked well .but thats it good for nothing else theses days...buy your self a 350 or 454 chevy...u will have more fun ,,trust me
Yep, it's the same engine, when completed. It now has a clutch and 3 speed syncro gearbox fitted to it. All I need now is a suitable chassis to fit it to :-)
nicely done mate.... hey can u please tell me wat mods u have used on this engine as i have just rebuilt my 253 and am now lookin for parts..... any help is apre3ciated. thnx
no mods at all, all bog standard. Mind you, it seems you can can go nuts with these engines (253 and 308) with all sorts of mods.. search for 'yella terra' for example. thx for looking :-)
Yep, ebay and junkyard frankenstein. Bearings and journels were all still good. Original size bore showed limited wear, but ring gaps were too wide and outside spec. So, the only new parts were rings, and lifters as the originals were leaky and noisy.... ohh and a new gasket kit too. Thanks for looking and commenting. Cheers!
this poor engine is being sufficated, my god take that crappy air cleaner off it and put a high flow.

@intheshitter Yep, that odd sound was from the mechanical fuel pump.. probably 'cause it was running dry
