Amazing painting. Love the way you combine different moods within one setting. It sort of reminds me of Alex Greys art, specifically the album artwork for Tools "Lateralus" album.
Geez, that was fantastic. You should really consider to make some paintings related to films, I know people who would pay a thousand dollars for a Stanley Kubrick portrait.
That's great. But I'm curious, you analyse films, you analys other parts of the media, you make independent films with your friends, and you apprently paint. So what do you actually do for a living? Do you earn any money on these things?
I earn part of my income from the sale of DVDs of my various films. I also work part time in social care and do bits of paid work relating to the different activities you mentioned. I really should concentrate more on increasing my income generally as there's an audience out there for these vids, but finances don't allow me to do it full time.
Great job , i really enjoyed it! I am also painting, sort of phantasy. On canvas but previously I print out a photo on it, then work over it. Success!
You have inspired me to try painting my own pictures. Painted a few in highschool 25 years ago but havent since. Starting to feel that too many people just consume but dont create. Great video!!
I've been putting some ideas together for a "design a monster" video - a series of sketches from initial ideas to finished design with some narration explaining the development process..
oh god damnit the last comment i posted didnt go through!!! thats why the seven deadly sins thing doesnt make since anywho i said blah blah brownie points blah blah amazing artist , id love to see you paint your version of the seven deadly sins ......blah blah , the original comment was alot more apraising but i dont feel like retyping it all or trying to remember it word for word so bare with me : D
Dude, this is a beautiful painting. So surrealistic, but it retains peaceful symmetry. I love the attention to detail. How when I look at one side of the picture, all the other sides are completely different; like every different part of the painting is a different world.
I think sharing a hi-res digital version of the picture online would defeat its sentimental value for my girlfriend so not this time. Future painting projects certainly.
A really wonderful video, the painting reminds me of the Dragons Dream and Paper Tiger sci-fi / fantasy book collections that were produced many years ago.
Hey cool, I've still got a collection of Dan Dare Pilot of the Future graphic novels by the creator and artist Frank Hampson, it was printed by Dragons Dream just before the book company changed their name to Paper Tiger.
Really nice painting Rob! Must have taken you a while to finish. You are one multi-talented man, that's for sure! Keep up the good work! I'm waiting for another in-dept film analysis;) *Cheers*
Hi Rob, that's really intense art. Would you be willing to share an in-depth analysis of it? I know that may be too private, so I wouldn't be disappointed if you declined.
Great vid, thanks for posting. It was wery interesting to watch you paint it. And you are very talented, What a loving gift to your girlfriend............Happy Valentine!!
awesome job! It's been ages since I took the time (or had the patience) to create artwork like this, mainly because I need a muse to spur me on. Enjoy your Valentine's. :)
Incredible! What a thoughtful and beautiful gift! If I had a boyfriend who gave something like that to me I'd be bowled over for sure, speechless (in a good way). You must really be smitten to devote so much time, energy and expense (I know art materials aren't cheap) into this. A very lucky woman indeed!
Wonderful painting there Rob. You better get your arse in a film studio, cause ill be pissed if you wind up doing something that doesn't utilize all your artistic, creative, and or writing talents. )p

Robag, thanx. I'll check out your films on your YouTube page. Me, I studied filmmaking in art school wayback andhave come back to painting.

What fun! Thanx 4 the experience, Rob. Do you paint all the time, or is it just one process for channelling your active curiosity?
stxyn 2 years ago
I very rarely paint these days. It's a very slow form of expression. Film making is where my efforts go now :)
robag88 2 years ago
Rob, how do you mix the paints so effectively? When I use pretty decent acrylics, I never have come up with a proper way of doing it effectively.
What would you advise?

You should do a painting at least once a month.
maggieskaggs 2 years ago
It would be nice to, but in between working, friends, family and making other videos it took many months to finish this painting alone :(
robag88 2 years ago
I know what you mean. I have artistic ability too and I can't seem to find the time to sit down with brushes and canvas myself either.
I checked out your other paintings on your collative learning web page.
You have a very good eye. Even if you produce something once or twice a year, you can say you have a lot to show for your painting talent.
I love the music by the way.
