This great man is so far beyond the average coolness of the most respected guitarists, I marvel that every living human being doesn't ask him to start a religion, so we could attend 7 days a week and give all we have to his benefit.
The saddest thing to me is, he is so unrecognized (commerically) for the awesome blues guitarist that he is. It is sad for me to see him only as a sideman-backup guitarist for Roger Waters (?), backup for clapton, backup for Sheryl Crow. He MORE THAN deserves being a headlining solo act himself : (
bramhall ii is completely stunning... and in the last decade he has written the most underrated songs ever, Cry, Marry You, I Wanna Be, Green Light Girl, smokestack, send some love, diamonds made from rain, problem child, mabye this time..... and yet most people will turn and not have a clue who he is...
This fella, actually plays upside down, and right side up. He knows the strings any which way they need done. Jimmy played guitars upside down, with strings right side up........It's something when the older greats use him for back up, to play their old original leads.
Doyle i have loved your music for a long time!it was my dear friend Jr. Medlow who i first heard of you father . I used to play with him in Lubbock and i also played with Micheal L.Williams also. This song reaches into the depths of soul and I dont know what it means to you but I thank you for the words and the melody....I know what it means to me! love you my brother from another mother!
OMG! I just got turned onto this guy and I am absolutely blown away! Ooooo what a guitar player! Ooooo what a hottie! Oooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome...can't get enough.
I would encourage any of you that love Doyle's music to check out the Arc Angels...The band is or was made up of Doyle, Charlie Sexton, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. You may recognize the names, but if not....Charlie has backed up the likes of Bob Dylan. Chris and Tommy were the backbone of Stevie Ray Vaughan's band...they were Double Trouble.....Also, check out Charlie Sexton's album...Under the Wishing Tree...these guys are awesome...and all of them are Texas boys...Yeeee Hahhh...Doyle rocks
@toolchick71 Your spot on, he is stunning. I just discovered is it news and am really digging the whole album at the moment. Made a dreary trip on the London Tube Station rockin
This guy is just great. I saw the documentary "Before the Music Dies" and realised that good music has been losing ground to "disposable" ones. Good music like "River of Tears" stays for good. Disposable music is
I saw Doyle open for Kenny Wayne Sheppard 11 or 12 years ago. KWS should have been the opening act because Doyle was about ten times better than him. I was very happy to see him playing with Clapton.
Not quite - some similarities in the basic chord progression, but a very different 'feel'. It would be interesting to know which song was written first: I wonder whether EC has been influenced by DBII as much as vice versa?!
The man is by far one of the most talented musicians out there. Him and Derek Trucks cannot be touched... Two truly gifted spirits...On top of that he is from TX.... HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im with ya on that one, but what i dont understand is how doyle has yet to really break out into mainstream. I mean like compare his music to say john mayers and i would say his style is way more advanced then mayers and yet he is still in the shadows??
If Doyle was to play these types of songs and put them all in one album, then he would be probably. Jellycream has some songs like these, but not all of them hit the mainstream like this would.
Because he didn't start out singing poppy songs about running through the halls of his high school. It's really a shame...he's truly a great player and songwriter.
Because Mayer took the girly popish route in order to gain enough popularity to be recognized when he decided it was his time to transition into the more bluesy electric style
Bramhall had a big record deal but didn't want to play by the rules of record company. All this is explained in Documentary "Before the Music Dies." But basically he chose to stay in the shadows so he could play the music that he loves. Check out the documentary though, great flick for anyone that wonders about today's pop music or the talent of today's pop artists.
this dude is with out a doubt a hidden gem in the guitar world the most talent ive seen in a 6 stringer in a long time and 2 boot he plays the guitar upsidedown and the strings backwords how meny other guitar players out there can say they play like that and still sound good?
Such beautiful first tribute to Doyle... Best pix and takes!!! Lovable and amazing!!! Just looove it so much... A fav and awesome song: "Cry"!!! Thanx, thanx, thanx for share...

I love the picture of Doyle Sr. on drums and Jr. on guitar back in the day!! Music will never be the same or even close to what it once was.

The reason this man is not on a 'big label'? He does not want to sell his soul, nor lay upon the casting couch. Word.
