But one thing's for sure, SOAD aren't like anyone else so they deserve their own genre in my opinion (all hail Armenian Folk Metal).

I believe they maybe wrote it there back in 1920's just because Russians, Britons, just about eveybody wanted a piece from the pie that was the Ottoman Empire. So there was some kind of a war of indepence after the WWI (the emperor practically sold the land). Which was won. etc... It's just history. But I believe even in the beginnings of "cumhuriyet", the word "turk" wasn't used in the way you think it is used. "Turk" is more or less the same as "American". It's not a race, the real Turks are in Asia anyway. "Turk" represent people living in the country including Armenians. Those guys just needed a word to, well, BRAND the citiziens.
