LSU's main advantage (speed) was neutralized by the field. Penn State played tough though. Good linebackers in this game and they had a better QB in Clark. Jefferson sucks donkey nuts.
They also had way better clock management at the end. This video doesn't have it, but Les Miles really screwed up the clock management again. God, I love Les (and the shit he pulled last year against Florida and Alabama), but he's so hilariously bad at managing the clock. XD
It was a fun game to watch, I wish it was manitory that each SEC team plays a Big 10 team during the regular season since we're the two riches and strongest conferences, Thats the only way we'll see a Michigan in Tiger Stadium or a Florida team visit Camp Randall...I'm a SEC fan and believe it or not we respect the Big 10 more than any conference because you guys enjoy football as much as we do.
@mroerled I would LOVE to see this, however....SEC teams will RARELY come up north. The home and home with Bama for PSU is a rarity. I believe that the big 10 schools are willing to go south, but I don't think many SEC teams are willing to come north....
If you have a YouTube video showing the Big Ten beating the SEC in football, one thing is always a guarantee: there will be plenty of SEC fans chiming in with about every EXCUSE on the face of the earth.
"This game was a complete fluke lmao. I quit watching after the 2nd quarter....I will watch my team get beat by 30 points, but not in these bullshit conditions. Honestly, the worst quarterback in the sec was already pretty bad, he didn't need any help"
it's called playing in the elements. you don't want to deal with it, go play an indoor sport like basketball or hockey.
This game was a complete fluke lmao. I quit watching after the 2nd quarter....I will watch my team get beat by 30 points, but not in these bullshit conditions. Honestly, the worst quarterback in the sec was already pretty bad, he didn't need any help.
This was a good game, just a shame for both teams that they had to play on such a shitty field. You would think for two historic elite teams they would have the field up to par.
I played in a soccer game in that kind of field yesterday HOLY SHIT!!!!! it was so hard, i cant imagine how hard it would of been if i wore pads..... It was like playing in quick sand
OSU does not always choke. The only real "choke" they had was against Florida.
If you look at those BT-SEC bowl games, those 16 BT wins since '98 have come just once against Kentucky and only once was against SC (when Iowa spanked them). Most have come against (Florida, LSU, 'Bama, Arkansas, Auburn, and Tennessee).
If the Big Ten is so weak, how in the hell do those SEC teams lose 16 out of 27 against all those teams that lose to weak and "choking" OSU? The Big Ten can compete and HAS!
@takeurlumps Plus, Ohio State in 1994 who lost 63-14 to Penn State outplayed an Alabama one point away from being in the national title discussion but came up short. Also, it's interesting to note that LSU had worse offensive production against Penn State than did Eastern Illinois. But of course some SEC fans try to pretend that our teams can't play football no matter what happens on the field.
@MVillani1985 I think the reason Eastern Illinois had better offensive production than LSU is because the field was terrible in this game if you didn't notice. Every game i've saw that is in the condition this field is in usually results in a low yardage game. The SEC usually performs better than any other conference, look at the rankings of the start of the 2010 season? SEC is dominating, look now, they still are but all the teams have lost to other SEC teams. (Alabama lost to SC, etc)
@DJspeed128 Yes, the field was pretty bad, but Penn State still moved the ball fairly well. I'm not saying the SEC is bad, it right now may very well be the best conference, but preseason rankings mean little. Look at Florida who has proven to be undeserving of their lofty preseason ranking, whole South Carolina was a pleasant surprise. I think the top of the SEC is very good, but the lower half maybe not so much (Ole Miss lost to Jacksonville State and is doing fairly decent at the moment).
not only that, the big 10 has one good bcs year and suddenly they have always been competitve? does the 3rd and 4th best sec teams losing in the capital bowl sometimes have a huge effect? absolutely not. the big 10 is simply not good or consistant enough now to be put with the sec. osu always chokes or simply gets beat down. and unlike the sec no other team is even mentioned in the title hunt because even if they DO beat osu they cant finish. maybe they dont have drive like the sec does.
If you look at H2H records since the 90s it's impossible to say either conference owns each other.
For example, the Big Ten leads 16-15 in bowls over the SEC in the BCS era DESPITE OSU's 0-4 record, which means the teams OSU beats up on every year have gone 16-11 vs. the SEC head-to-head in bowls.
Since 1990, the Big Ten (current alignment) is 3-2 vs. 'Bama, with Bama losing the last two (Mich and Minn).
Again, this isn't the 70s and 80s anymore. Things have changed. It's competitive now.
@takeurlumps lol 3-2 what a great record. our best team is better than yours, you cant just take away those loses. osu doesnt get challenged except 1 or 2 years. what that tells me is the big 10 is a 1 team conference, and yes you could argue its just bama and florida for us. but last time i checked netheir has won the last 5 or 6 years in a row. so what, you can pile up your wins to teams such as south carolina and kentucky.
Give me a break, silverblade. PSU didn't join the Big Ten till 1993.
Your notion that mediocre 'Bama teams were beating super awesome Big Ten teams is comical and ridiculous at best. Back in the 70s and 80s when 'Bama was playing mostly PSU they were usually highly ranked (9 of 14 games vs. current Big Ten teams).
As a whole the SEC did very well vs. the Big Ten in the 70s and 80s. Things changed in the 90s. Where have you been? Have you watched any Cap One Bowls lately?
There are a lot of good teams out there from other conferences that can compete against the SEC. Just watch the games for proof. But what it boils down to in the end is the top of the SEC has been better than the top of all the other conferences.
SEC conference homers who hang on to FLORIDA's, 'Bama's, and LSU's nuts make me sick. Those of you who fall in this category, man up. Cheer for you own damn team. You have no claim to the Gators' NCs. All you other teams suck, esp. LSU.
I didnt get to watch the game live, and after I found out that LSU lost I was very disappointed and never watched the high lights until just now(what 6 months after the fact). It looks like Penn state played a good game but so did LSU. It was really a toss up and PSU came out on top, hopefully for LSU fans and Les Miles job they do much better this year.
@nilekinnick24 LMAO!!! Please..Explain this "SEC fans are morons" Theory to the rest of the class.. And try to make it sensible. I mean Jeeeessus christ. What do we have to do? TEN NC's in a row for you Big whatever conferences to finally stfu and admit all you can do is win toss up mud bowls??
this was the stupidest game ever... the end of the game an lsu lineman gets a personal foul in hurry up mode for pullin ps players off of an lsu player which frustrated me and i dont even like lsu even though my name does say SEC i cant wait to play penn state this coming year
im sick of hearing the mud its was the muds fault, LSU cant use their speed. PSU had speed too they beat them fair and square. so much for the slow "boring" big ten team.
Hey, nitwit (silverblade43), Penn State didn't join the Big Ten till the 1993 and those 'Bama-PSU games occurred before then!!! Next time before you open your trap, do your homework.
So yeah, 'Bama hardly OWNS the Big Ten, but they have a slight edge. I was surprised too. I figured big, bad all-time king of the SEC by far would have a much better record vs. the slow, plodding (ha, ha) Big Ten. Guess you don't know unless you do your homework, which I did.
@takeurlumps not my fault they havent scheduled untill now. back than alabama losing wasnt super shocking. teams in the big 10 were very good then and bama was the only real elite team in the sec. all i know is leading in wins against more than 60% against the whole conference pretty much is owning. the years we played penn st was in their "elite" years when they were nc contenders every year. also to people who think the sec cant play in cold weather is dumb, just because lsu was sloppy.
@silverblade43 You call 5-4 vs. the Big Ten "owning the Big Ten". You're funny, but you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
LonghornsBeast ...these SEC conference nut clingers have inferiority complex issues and are the biggest whiners when their teams lose. Pathetic if you ask me.
You just don't get it. You sound like an utter buffoon talking about a conference more than your team and riding the back of teams (your rivals, idiot) that kick LSU's ass like 'Bama and Florida. You need to quit riding the nuts of other teams in the conference and cheer for your team.
It would be like a Longhorn fan bragging about all of Oklahoma's national championships. It's pussy.
Grow a pair.
Oh, did I mention LSU lost to Penn State in the Cap One Bowl?
@takeurlumps exactly. sec is the only conference that when it comes to bowls there all friends and they chant SEC SEC because they all want each other to do well. well in 2007 I laughed when boise beat ou. in the 2009 i was praying for the sooners to get whooped by the gators, and im pretty sure in 2010 the sooners laughed their head off when bama beat us. i hate my rivals unlike lsu, florida, and bama... i dont get south east people....
Peppsi, quit riding the coattails of the the one or two good teams in the SEC ('Bama or Florida). Rather than talk about YOUR TEAM because they LOST to Penn State in the Cap One Bowl, you talk about the entire SEC Conference while spanking your meat. That's LAME and PATHETIC to the Nth degree! I bet you sleep with your sister too.
NEWSFLASH (cuz you're thick), ONE team wins the NC. The other 11 SEC teams DON'T!!!
BTW, there are other conferences top-to-bottom stronger and deeper than the SEC!
sec is overrated. the sec fans think there better because espn loves to talk about them. how if theres an upset in the sec its not really an upset because in the sec EVERY team is good... by the way SEC speed 2:30-2:34. hahaha
@TheLonghornsBeast UT fans are ovveratted faggots. You guys are only in the Big12 because you texan pussies can't Handle real football. Notice how Texas ALWAYS get's their sorry ass handed to them whenever they lay us.
@Peppsi101 umm were 9-7-1 against you... please rethink your statement. our last game we payed 2003 cotton bow we beat you 35-20..LOL at sec arrogance.
It was a good game, but I was disappointed with the last few plays. It's not that we lost, but that last call was bullshit. A PennState player was laying on the ball and couldn't get his ass up, so when we pulled him off so we could start the play, fuckinf ref desides to join the PennState fatass and calls a foul on LSU. That was just gay, I can stand losing, I can't stand cheaters.
@Peppsi101 no the refs were giving psu crapy spots and crapy calls and u guys finally get a penalty against and everybody starts crying about it.u guys got beat and its that simple
@Peppsi101 thats not a penalty to lay on him. what penalty would that fall under"personell foul laying on the other player" no. lsu would have done the same thing if u were up but guess what u werent and u LOST!GET OVER IT. the SEC is as overated as the pac 10
@omgitzzyou1 To lay on him? Dumbass he's laying on the BALL! The ball is not a lving thing! Also you're retarded for aying "SEC is overrated" especialy when the last 5 BCS titles are in ths SEC and not in your shitty conference.
@Peppsi101 Congrats to Alabama. NO congrats to LSU, Auburn, Mississippi, Miss State, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Vandy, So Carolina, Arkansas, or Florida.
Teams win championships, not conferences. It's not like 'Bama passes their trophy around for Ole Miss to drool over and cover with finger prints....
...although they DID take it to Walmart. LOL
By the way, the Big Ten is 16-15 vs. the SEC in bowl in the BCS era (since 1998). Chew on that for awhile.
@takeurlumps Dumbass the last 5 years the BCS has went to an SEC team. Not your shitty teams, ours. I'm an SEC fan, not just an LSU. chew on that bitch, now stop replying you're not making and points and you're failing at humor.
@Peppsi101 no novarro bowman was laying on the ball carrier if he was laying on the ball it would have been a fumble. ur retarded for saying that. and yes alabama won the natl championship but that doesnt prove them the best team. its not a playoff retard, teams dont earn their way in by playin other playoff ranked teams. they can be a d1 school and play d2 schools all year and go the natl championship. the steelers wer the LAST seed in the playoffs and won the super bowl cuz they EARNED it.
o yeah and miamis other acc team partner georgia tech, yeah they got their butts kicked too by a big 10 team, and supposedly gt had speed and a high powered offence, o well, maybe they will be even faster next year.... pft
PSU = 10-4 against the SEC in bowl games (including beating both Tennessee & LSU in the last 4 years), and Penn State totally owns LSU. Actually, every team in the big ten EXCEPT for Ohio State owns the SEC. Even Northwestern, a school of 8,000 rocket scientists, lawyers, and doctors, was just one yard and 3 points away in OT from beating the precious "war eagle"
@rteishe thats all well and true what you say.....however it is just when a big ten team plays an sec team in a major BCS game it has been lopsided in the SEC's favor............i could say the MAC conference is better than the big 12 because in 5 NBC bowls (no body cares) bowls they ae 4-1.....its all about the BCS bowl...capital one bowl is not a BCS bowl
on a dry field, "8moneyizmymission8", LSU would've gotten totally crushed. PSU dropped a ton of passes too, and evan royster slipped & fell on two long runs that would've otherwise been touchdowns. Coulda, shoulda, woulda....you lost. The SEC is overrated. Deal. Maybe LSU should learn something about clock management too...
I hate to say it but penn st was just more prepared than us for that mud bowl.
We LITERALLY dropped over 8 passes that would have easily totaled more than 110 yards and dropped more than 3int that would have stalled at least 2 penn st scoring drives.
Fuck on a dry field we'd have won this by 20 but we should have been prepared for anything.
congratz penn st ( alabama fan) LSU should feel embarassed not for losing the game ( penn st was a good team) but getting dominated the entire game i thought LSU was the best bowl team lol. i cant believe how bad they got beat the score dosent show it
LSU had a lot of chances to win this game but they couldnt win because they fucked up these chances. A penn state player was layin on an lsu player running down the clock at the lats seconds.
Penn st deserved this win, congrats. However, Capital one should be ashamed. This is the biggest non-BCS bowl game and for the field to look like this is shameful.
@bamafan73191 lol...This is what a football field should look like, sorry its not a cute little field with the pylones squared down within a 1/16th of an inch with matching colors on the field goal post's ITS Football this is where it started, stop crying,,,,
@Slatrelle thats the stupidest response i've ever heard. It not only looks bad, it is a hazard for players, The football played on this field is not as high quality as it should be due in large part to the sliperiness of the field and could also lead to injuries.
@bamafan73191 dang mang a ding dang do.... You sound like a str8 bitch. It's FOOTBALL, If your worried about injuries, WATCH GOLF. and let the real football Players and fans discuss the sport.
sec=5 nat championships this decade and counting,... lsu over ou in 03, fla over osu in 06, lsu over osu in 07, fla over ou in 08, bama over texas in 09... nuff said. and oh yeah tennessee won in 99. geaux tigers!!!
sec=5 nat championships this decade and counting,... lsu over ou in 03, fla over osu in 06, lsu over osu in 07, fla over ou in 08, bama over texas in 09... nuff said. and oh yeah tennessee won in 99. geaux tigers!!!
I swear SEC fans are like a bunch of little children. when they win, they are the best thing ever, everyone should bow to them and give them all glory. but when they lose, every crybaby excuse comes out of their mouth ("its too wet. its too cold, all the teams in our conference are good and thats why we lost")....and they still think they are the "best" conference in football anyway. and then the retards start saying stuff like "well LSU sucks anyway." the 3rd best team in the SEC sucks?
@travismpsu12 My favorite excuses are the weather-related ones. As if somehow weather does not affect the play of Big Ten teams, and only SEC/ACC teams are "unfairly" disadvantaged (same excuse for Iowa destroying Georgia Tech, Wisconsin defeating Miami). I laugh at the ridiculous statements I read on these comments sections - "the south has better speed, quarterbacks, receivers, etc." Let's get real, if you think your geography makes you better at football, you're insane.
this game made me mad. i know LSU is the better team but that was definately not there day. they couldnt catch the ball. i dont know but im pushed to believed that pen state put grease in there gloves. to many balls dropped.
@paulinotou Sure, Penn State greased the gloves. Wow, that's a cracker jack excuse if I ever did read one. The fact is, Penn State played a terrible game and they still beat LSU. Penn State was UNDOUBTEDLY the better team: Here you have two teams playing on neutral turf to see which team would win - Penn State wins - and you're literally saying LSU was better. Think about that for a second. If beating LSU down doesn't prove anything, what would convince you?
LSU played by far their worst game of the year. It was still a 2 pt. game. If this game is played ten times, LSU whups you 6 times. You dirty, stinky yankees really are stupid.
I was at this game. It was, by far, the most miserable game I've ever been to. I would have never thought that I would leave a game at half time, but I did. It was that bad.
the Sorry Excuse Conference can rant and rave about the speed they think they have but this proves (again) that SEC 'speed' is no match for strength on strength, power Penn State football. especially in conditions this game was MEANT to be played in.
@travismpsu12 4THQUARTER @ 12:52 NOW THATS HOW U PLAY POWER FOOTBALL RAM IT DOWN THE DEFENSE THROAT EVEN IF THEY KNOW WHATS COMING.................NOT WHAT PENN STATE WAS DOING AS I ADMIT THEY ARE A POWER FOOTBALL TEAM BUT IF THATS YOUR GAME WHY ARE YOU PASS'N AT THE GOALLINE CONGRADS ON THE VICTORY BUT ITS REALLY TIME FOR JOE TO PACK IT IN
@501p Good point my man. but rushing yards, time of possession, perfect on field goals, stingy defense, only 2 penalties, recovering fumbles...thats some good football. and don't forget, psu was still 100% in red zone scoring. but i'll admit, i don't know why they kept trying to pass the ball at the goal line.
They should make it mandatory that every big name football school must play 2 big name football schools out of conference every year, one at home one on the road to qualify for a bowl game or championship game
USC did not play any of the schools you mentioned. USC plays anywhere at anytime. Pete Carroll has NOT LOST to any SEC team in his tenure. NOT ONE. That is pwnd.
hi ,all bama fan here . i cant wait till bama vs penn state ill be their! hopefully it will be a very close game. of course i want bama to win but if i had to except a loss i would want it to be to penn state , i love schools rich in tradition
@BlitzinLB27 has more like bama vs penn state........goalline stance........bama win...........sugar bowl....dont act like u dont remember it wasnt that long ago
who will back up the men in blue and white. who will respect the tradition in its flight , for the up comming season 2010. with the perfect name lions. as they stock their prey as the aggresser stands ready to strike. no its not pretty though victory is sure. i believe in 2010 the lion will roar.
God I hope you're right, but to be honest, I think we're going to be a team with a lot of close losses, but better than their record. I see 2010 as a year that'll tell us how good we could be in 2011. If we win at least 8 games this year, then I think we have a real shot at the NC in 2011.
bama is very talented but psu matches up well with them. our o line at psu will be alot better than the experts think. im not really worried about the qb position they will be fine . psu will have a chance to win at bama. i really think psu will have a defence to hold bama under 20 points .its wether or not we can score 21
That and whether or not Joe lets the offense play or not. With a tough road game early and an inexperienced QB, I suspect Joe will play it close to the vest per usual. That explains why we always seem to lose the big games.
Call me the harbringer of gloom and doom for predicting this, but I think we lose to Bama. The big games we win are the ones we barely win that we should have won big time. Like agianst Ohio State in 2005, we could have really pounded them in the second half, but instead we squatted on the ball once up 17-10. And when we lose big games it's for the same reasons (plus prevent defense). The only time a prevent defense is okay IMO is if you're up by two scores or more and it's super late.
@MVillani1985 I feel the same way. I have a feeling this could be like the 06 ND game or the 2000 Kickoff Classic. Our defense loses key pieces and its a big road game against the defending champs who return the Heisman winner and several other good RBs, Julio Jones, and a QB who hasnt lost since middle school. With a new QB, expect the offense to be very vanilla. Patience will be key this year. I am viewing 2010 as a dry run for 2011.
If it's like the 2006 ND game, it'll be because of our offense, who turned the ball over a lot in 2006 (amazingly, PSU never punted against ND as crazy as it sounds while ND punted about 4 times). If we're like the 2006 team, that'll be a positive sign, because we were a good team in 2006, two plays shy of being Big Ten co-champs (and getting the automatic bid because we hadn't been to the Rose Bowl the longest at the time).
JKM070 you are a complete idiot... The SEC is a joke conference enabled by the fact that bowl games are played in perfect conditions 99.9% of the time and are played in the South predominantly. I personally assure you that Alabama would get manhandled if they played any January bowls in an open stadium in the North when it is snowing. Just look at this, bad weather, a shitty overrated SEC team getting beat because they cannot play with weather.
Three years ago you'd have sold your left testicles to have played in that "nothing bowl" and you know it. I'd rather win a non-BCS January bowl than get smoked by a mid-major like you did in the Sugar Bowl in January of 2009 thanks to Utah pounding Alabama and pulling back the throttle out of pity later in the game to let you guys make the score semi-respectable.
I noticed that most who come back with "ignorant" as a comeback are the most ignorant themselves. Of course 2008 was a winning season, you were #1 at one poitn, or do you mean 2007? Well, 7-6 still isn't something to brag about and I bet you'd have in 2008 been thrilled in the preseason if you were told you'd make it to a January bowl. Bama has a couple non-losing seasons and suddenly Bama fans are worse than Buckeye fans.
As I suspected, no comeback except "you're ignorant". Tell me, do I have cooties too and am I big stinky poopy face? Does my mother wear combat boots? Or am I a big meanie instead for calling you out on your lack of comebacks? Let me know when you're ready to debate with more sophistication than a first grader, then we can discuss this like adults.
@MVillani1985 > Actually ' I could not read your comments on this page. I did something wrong on my settings. That's corrected. Neither of us are ignorant! This is a case of, passion for our schools. Their is really no debate needed. I have lived the Bear and Joe days and know so well the history of both teams. I apologize for my comments and they have been removed ... Have a Great Day ...
Well, we both certainly have a lot of passion for our alma maters. Both schools have a storied football history that makes the two a lot more similar than many may not recognize. Both had a rough patch (for example, PSU's was 2000-2004, then PSU comes back and is an elite team in 2005, 2008, and 2009). I think the 2010 game will be interesting, because both teams lose a lot of big time players, but the winner will not win in a blowout, the point spread I think will be 18 points or less.
Great game. As an LSU fan I am disappointed in the loss, but Penn State played an excellent game. Congratulations and good luck next season. LSU will continue to improve. Go Tigers!
As a PSU fan I was very surprised the way we jumped out in the game, but I knew in my gut that you guys would come back and give us a fight, and you did. If you guys had the offense to compliment the D this past year, I really think you would've been title contenders, and I think you guys should be a team to watch next year with the SEC looking open for the taking. Good luck!
@DCLBCFB07 I was at the game, both teams have great fans. Despite the weather it was such a fun game to watch. I can see these two teams playing in a BCS game in the near future. We Are Penn State!
what happened to all that sec speed? I'm tired of people ragging on the big 10 for being slow plodders. big 10 teams look slow because they have to, you know, actually play in the elements. kinda hard to look fast in bad weather conditions.
If you notice @ 2:33 the LSU receiver was ran down in the open field by a PSU linebacker. FSU, Tennessee, A&M, LSU...who else does PSU have to beat until the Southern Speed myth is put to rest?
So what, what's your point? Pound for pound Florida,Alabama,LSU,Texas,Tenn,FlaST,Miami, all have exceptional team speed. Besides, this is a down year for LSU, you only beat them by 2 points and dominated the game for the most part,so what does that say about Penn State, even under those field conditions.
Even under those conditions? Had the ball not been so slippery in the wet conditions, we probably wouldn't have fumbled it around so much near the goal line and this thing would've been a rout. If beating a down team means beating a team that held the Gators to 13 points and carried a lead in the 4th against the national champs, then I'll take it.
You could say the same for LSU, as for the fumbles, dropped passes, dropped interceptions etc... Across the board LSU and Penn State were the most evenly matched team in any of the bowls played, that's coming from most commentators. Hell I like all teams in the Big 10 except OSU.
It definitely was ugly conditions for a game, and I do agree that we were the most evenly matched. We both had strong defenses, good skill players, but offensive lines that were not good enough for our offenses to be where they needed to be to take them to the next level. LSU should have a very good team next year and contend for the SEC and national title.
Had we not fumbled b/c of the conditions around the goal line, this thing could've been a rout. Plus, if beating a down team means beating one that held UF to 13 pts and carried a lead into the 4th against the national champs, then I'll take it. No matter what, the B10 gets no respect. Anytime they beat someone, its always the same excuses, "field conditions", "the other team wasn't that good" and so on. Get over it dude.
Penn State may not have looked fast but neither did LSU. Don't forget how PSU's first TD came about, Derek Moye looked pretty fast there. But on the other side of the spectrum, you could say that if the field wasn't slop, those PSU FGs would have been touchdowns and we might have led 28-3 in the 3rd, not 16-3, but I don't like playing "what if" games. Last year was not a down year for LSU, 2008 was a down year for LSU. You almost beat Bama and Florida this year. LSU was an elite team in 2009.
@95LSUBOY The field conditions were crap, I can agree. However, both teams played on that field, not just LSU. The fact that LSU got penalized a lot more and lost the turnover battle 2-0 doomed them more than the field conditions. Great game nonetheless and I will be rooting for LSU to have a strong year in 2010. The pieces are there.
Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Erin Andrews. Add Kirk Herbstreit to this...best crew ever. WE ARE!!!!!

LSU's main advantage (speed) was neutralized by the field. Penn State played tough though. Good linebackers in this game and they had a better QB in Clark. Jefferson sucks donkey nuts.

@106708
They also had way better clock management at the end. This video doesn't have it, but Les Miles really screwed up the clock management again. God, I love Les (and the shit he pulled last year against Florida and Alabama), but he's so hilariously bad at managing the clock. XD

This was a good game, just a shame for both teams that they had to play on such a shitty field. You would think for two historic elite teams they would have the field up to par.

I've always wondered how more bowl games would go if teams in the SEC, Pac 10, etc had to play in this kind of weather and conditions.

bissoc14 1 year ago
OSU does not always choke. The only real "choke" they had was against Florida.
If you look at those BT-SEC bowl games, those 16 BT wins since '98 have come just once against Kentucky and only once was against SC (when Iowa spanked them). Most have come against (Florida, LSU, 'Bama, Arkansas, Auburn, and Tennessee).
If the Big Ten is so weak, how in the hell do those SEC teams lose 16 out of 27 against all those teams that lose to weak and "choking" OSU? The Big Ten can compete and HAS!
takeurlumps 1 year ago
@takeurlumps Plus, Ohio State in 1994 who lost 63-14 to Penn State outplayed an Alabama one point away from being in the national title discussion but came up short. Also, it's interesting to note that LSU had worse offensive production against Penn State than did Eastern Illinois. But of course some SEC fans try to pretend that our teams can't play football no matter what happens on the field.
MVillani1985 1 year ago
@MVillani1985 I think the reason Eastern Illinois had better offensive production than LSU is because the field was terrible in this game if you didn't notice. Every game i've saw that is in the condition this field is in usually results in a low yardage game. The SEC usually performs better than any other conference, look at the rankings of the start of the 2010 season? SEC is dominating, look now, they still are but all the teams have lost to other SEC teams. (Alabama lost to SC, etc)
DJspeed128 1 year ago
@DJspeed128 Yes, the field was pretty bad, but Penn State still moved the ball fairly well. I'm not saying the SEC is bad, it right now may very well be the best conference, but preseason rankings mean little. Look at Florida who has proven to be undeserving of their lofty preseason ranking, whole South Carolina was a pleasant surprise. I think the top of the SEC is very good, but the lower half maybe not so much (Ole Miss lost to Jacksonville State and is doing fairly decent at the moment).
MVillani1985 1 year ago
Good muddy game!
Hopper3513 1 year ago
not only that, the big 10 has one good bcs year and suddenly they have always been competitve? does the 3rd and 4th best sec teams losing in the capital bowl sometimes have a huge effect? absolutely not. the big 10 is simply not good or consistant enough now to be put with the sec. osu always chokes or simply gets beat down. and unlike the sec no other team is even mentioned in the title hunt because even if they DO beat osu they cant finish. maybe they dont have drive like the sec does.
silverblade43 1 year ago
one ugly game but i did pick penn state to win this game
plafonte 1 year ago
If you look at H2H records since the 90s it's impossible to say either conference owns each other.
For example, the Big Ten leads 16-15 in bowls over the SEC in the BCS era DESPITE OSU's 0-4 record, which means the teams OSU beats up on every year have gone 16-11 vs. the SEC head-to-head in bowls.
Since 1990, the Big Ten (current alignment) is 3-2 vs. 'Bama, with Bama losing the last two (Mich and Minn).
Again, this isn't the 70s and 80s anymore. Things have changed. It's competitive now.
takeurlumps 1 year ago
@takeurlumps lol 3-2 what a great record. our best team is better than yours, you cant just take away those loses. osu doesnt get challenged except 1 or 2 years. what that tells me is the big 10 is a 1 team conference, and yes you could argue its just bama and florida for us. but last time i checked netheir has won the last 5 or 6 years in a row. so what, you can pile up your wins to teams such as south carolina and kentucky.
silverblade43 1 year ago
@silverblade43

LSU's worse game last season
0532tim 1 year ago
There are a lot of good teams out there from other conferences that can compete against the SEC. Just watch the games for proof. But what it boils down to in the end is the top of the SEC has been better than the top of all the other conferences.
SEC conference homers who hang on to FLORIDA's, 'Bama's, and LSU's nuts make me sick. Those of you who fall in this category, man up. Cheer for you own damn team. You have no claim to the Gators' NCs. All you other teams suck, esp. LSU.

Thanks for playin'.
takeurlumps 1 year ago
@takeurlumps not my fault they havent scheduled untill now. back than alabama losing wasnt super shocking. teams in the big 10 were very good then and bama was the only real elite team in the sec. all i know is leading in wins against more than 60% against the whole conference pretty much is owning. the years we played penn st was in their "elite" years when they were nc contenders every year. also to people who think the sec cant play in cold weather is dumb, just because lsu was sloppy.

It would be like a Longhorn fan bragging about all of Oklahoma's national championships. It's pussy.
Grow a pair.
Oh, did I mention LSU lost to Penn State in the Cap One Bowl?
takeurlumps 1 year ago
@takeurlumps exactly. sec is the only conference that when it comes to bowls there all friends and they chant SEC SEC because they all want each other to do well. well in 2007 I laughed when boise beat ou. in the 2009 i was praying for the sooners to get whooped by the gators, and im pretty sure in 2010 the sooners laughed their head off when bama beat us. i hate my rivals unlike lsu, florida, and bama... i dont get south east people....
TheLonghornsBeast 1 year ago
Peppsi, quit riding the coattails of the the one or two good teams in the SEC ('Bama or Florida).

I swear SEC fans are like a bunch of little children. when they win, they are the best thing ever, everyone should bow to them and give them all glory. but when they lose, every crybaby excuse comes out of their mouth ("its too wet. its too cold, all the teams in our conference are good and thats why we lost")....and they still think they are the "best" conference in football anyway. and then the retards start saying stuff like "well LSU sucks anyway." the 3rd best team in the SEC sucks?
travismpsu12 1 year ago
@travismpsu12 My favorite excuses are the weather-related ones. As if somehow weather does not affect the play of Big Ten teams, and only SEC/ACC teams are "unfairly" disadvantaged (same excuse for Iowa destroying Georgia Tech, Wisconsin defeating Miami). I laugh at the ridiculous statements I read on these comments sections - "the south has better speed, quarterbacks, receivers, etc." Let's get real, if you think your geography makes you better at football, you're insane.

this game made me mad. i know LSU is the better team but that was definately not there day. they couldnt catch the ball. i dont know but im pushed to believed that pen state put grease in there gloves. to many balls dropped.
paulinotou 1 year ago
@paulinotou Sure, Penn State greased the gloves. Wow, that's a cracker jack excuse if I ever did read one. The fact is, Penn State played a terrible game and they still beat LSU. Penn State was UNDOUBTEDLY the better team: Here you have two teams playing on neutral turf to see which team would win - Penn State wins - and you're literally saying LSU was better. Think about that for a second. If beating LSU down doesn't prove anything, what would convince you?

God I hope you're right, but to be honest, I think we're going to be a team with a lot of close losses, but better than their record. I see 2010 as a year that'll tell us how good we could be in 2011. If we win at least 8 games this year, then I think we have a real shot at the NC in 2011.
MVillani1985 1 year ago
bama is very talented but psu matches up well with them. our o line at psu will be alot better than the experts think. im not really worried about the qb position they will be fine . psu will have a chance to win at bama. i really think psu will have a defence to hold bama under 20 points .its wether or not we can score 21
ZTS88 1 year ago
That and whether or not Joe lets the offense play or not. With a tough road game early and an inexperienced QB, I suspect Joe will play it close to the vest per usual. That explains why we always seem to lose the big games.
BassAssassin9 1 year ago
Call me the harbringer of gloom and doom for predicting this, but I think we lose to Bama. The big games we win are the ones we barely win that we should have won big time. Like agianst Ohio State in 2005, we could have really pounded them in the second half, but instead we squatted on the ball once up 17-10. And when we lose big games it's for the same reasons (plus prevent defense). The only time a prevent defense is okay IMO is if you're up by two scores or more and it's super late.
MVillani1985 1 year ago

JKM070 1 year ago

I'm tired of people ragging on the big 10 for being slow plodders. big 10 teams look slow because they have to, you know, actually play in the elements. kinda hard to look fast in bad weather conditions.
footballjava32 1 year ago 4
If you notice @ 2:33 the LSU receiver was ran down in the open field by a PSU linebacker. FSU, Tennessee, A&M, LSU...who else does PSU have to beat until the Southern Speed myth is put to rest?

So what, what's your point? Pound for pound Florida,Alabama,LSU,Texas,Tenn,FlaST,Miami, all have exceptional team speed. Besides, this is a down year for LSU, you only beat them by 2 points and dominated the game for the most part,so what does that say about Penn State, even under those field conditions.
woolly65 1 year ago
Even under those conditions? Had the ball not been so slippery in the wet conditions, we probably wouldn't have fumbled it around so much near the goal line and this thing would've been a rout. If beating a down team means beating a team that held the Gators to 13 points and carried a lead in the 4th against the national champs, then I'll take it.
BassAssassin9 1 year ago
You could say the same for LSU, as for the fumbles, dropped passes, dropped interceptions etc... Across the board LSU and Penn State were the most evenly matched team in any of the bowls played, that's coming from most commentators. Hell I like all teams in the Big 10 except OSU.
woolly65 1 year ago
It definitely was ugly conditions for a game, and I do agree that we were the most evenly matched. We both had strong defenses, good skill players, but offensive lines that were not good enough for our offenses to be where they needed to be to take them to the next level. LSU should have a very good team next year and contend for the SEC and national title.
BassAssassin9 1 year ago
Had we not fumbled b/c of the conditions around the goal line, this thing could've been a rout. Plus, if beating a down team means beating one that held UF to 13 pts and carried a lead into the 4th against the national champs, then I'll take it. No matter what, the B10 gets no respect. Anytime they beat someone, its always the same excuses, "field conditions", "the other team wasn't that good" and so on. Get over it dude.
BassAssassin9 1 year ago
Penn State may not have looked fast but neither did LSU. Don't forget how PSU's first TD came about, Derek Moye looked pretty fast there. But on the other side of the spectrum, you could say that if the field wasn't slop, those PSU FGs would have been touchdowns and we might have led 28-3 in the 3rd, not 16-3, but I don't like playing "what if" games. Last year was not a down year for LSU, 2008 was a down year for LSU. You almost beat Bama and Florida this year. LSU was an elite team in 2009.

@BassAssassin9 another reason is because the field is wet and slippery
95LSUBOY 1 year ago
@95LSUBOY The field conditions were crap, I can agree. However, both teams played on that field, not just LSU. The fact that LSU got penalized a lot more and lost the turnover battle 2-0 doomed them more than the field conditions. Great game nonetheless and I will be rooting for LSU to have a strong year in 2010. The pieces are there.
