  • YET ANOTHER GREAT SONG - FROM THE WONDERFUL (MUSICALLY) YEAR OF 1986

  • @gilllew Oh, yes, I remember ..

  • perfect ...i completly forgot about this song . love it . it was a big hit in Europe in 80 ' s ...nice to listen to it , again !

  • Hate this! It's stalking my mind! And I was quite shocked when I saw that Red Box is the artist, I like their later songs. Bwaaah, mind-stalker, those times were pretty weird...

  • Great Song.

  • Another great song from the boys, its a shame they didn't produce more records for my little legs to move to.

  • I think this song is way ahead of it's time (after taking about 20 years to find it). From what I read in Wikipedia, it was the band's response to WEM (Warner Music) which asked Red Box to write something mainstream to appeal to America. In response, carried by a catchy bouncy tune lies a sarcastic portrayal of The American Dream (I believe the yodelling was portraying The Native American Indian and it's plight). Needless to say, it didn't do very well in America, lol.

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS? this is the most random thing that's popped up from pressing random keys into youtube

  • who is better, red box or living in a box????????

  • @spongebobsquarejocks Definitely Red Box, "Lean On Me" always beats Living In A Box's self-titled track any day.

  • @spongebobsquarejocks RED!!!!!!

  • 2:21 - 2:26 ! :) this song will never die ;)

  • anyone over 40 can come with me back to the 80,s in my time machine ..only a few tickets left :)

  • Strange video : )

  • Before 911, it looked like the world was perfect.

Maybe I was just too young to understand the worlds problems.

I never heard about evil like socialism, communism, liberalism, islam.

I never knew that people hate America, and in their jealousy are blaming America and the Jews for all the evil that happened to them.

Like I said, the world seemed almost to be perfect before 911.

  • @Patrickthedutch Bless you. I mean this in a friendly way but you might want to do some reading, understanding and thinking before branding socialism, communism, liberalism and Islam as evil! As with all regimes and ideologies there are people who exploit these systems for their own ends and corrupt all that was good about them. Unfortunately that is part of human nature and the same applies to capitalism, Christianity, democracy etc. Go on - do some research, I dare you. :)

  • Thumbs up if u still watch this ...

  • i love it ! ;D

  • Tell me - is this song for real or is it just irony?

  • @DelfinoDelphis I'm more worried about the dreadful dress sense myself. What an awful lost gem from 86. That said l have to admit that l was hooked in 86 and loved this.

  • Stil loving the dance Sue xx, CB

Tą piosenkę polecił mi przyjaciel jakiś czas temu, a szczerze mówiąc do czasu jak tu zajrzałem, nie wiedziałem że jest u nas tak znana.

  • super polacy to kochaja....POZDRAWIAM

  • Beck: loser

  • Trójka 1987... pamiętam cały rok pięknych utworów jeszcze był Genesis Land of confusion A-HA manhattan... Róże Europy Stańcie przed lustrami , Obywatel G.C. Paryż Moskwa i oczywiście moja ukochana Wieża radości, wieża samotności Sztywny Pal Azji

  • rewelacja

  • One of my favourite songs ever

  • Gość przypomina mi Artura Boruca

  • No tak, no tak. Skoro świt i coś takiego wynalazłem. Dzięki komu? No przecież dzięki pr III polskiego radia. Zapodali to i człowiek szybciutko do maszynerii zasiadł. Serdecznie i cieplutko wszystkich pozdrawiam.

  • The globe tells me that there 3 Americas, North, South and Middle America. Why does the United States raise there flag and say America at the same time? Canada and Mexico are in the same America. It's called North America.

  • @weshiebert1 Because we're AMERICA. We do what we want.

  • CLASSIC 80'S SONG NOWT LIKE THIS WOULD BE IN THE CHARTS TODAY LOVE THE 80'S SO MUCH

  • @weba28 O know. It aint sexy enough to make it today as todays songs are all about sex and image.

  • The days when people put effort in their songs not one second" hits" like today

  • Danke Thanks for this video , ich liebe das Lied

  • My wife was the stylist on this video, the cow-skin jacket the drummer is wearing was hers, they needed to borrow it so that he would look more American, and the Statue of Liberty was all her own work too.

  • @Eightbanger I remember the statue of liberty costume so clearly, great work. Sack the choreographer though.

  • @Eightbanger On top of that, Duke Nukem borrowed his hair to that dude.

  • @Eightbanger Sadly Sue, the lady who was 'Liberty' died a couple of weeks back. Simon made an announcment on Facebook.

  • @lewisslade This is sad news, thank you very miuch for letting me know Lewis, i've left a message on Facebook.

  • Yes, because the original was so rare on cd that it was selling for £100 on ebay!!

  • One of the Greatest tunes & songs of all time, when i first heard this song it was then i realised how much in love with America I AM....EVERYONE i am on facebook and my name is Carm Mir on there......peace in the real.

  • this song reminds me so much of my childhood, even tho I am born in 87, my dad used to play this song very often on his LP player and I usually went nuts about this song... I still remember the texts from the day I found this one again today :))

  • @Tekow1 same me:)

  • the lead singer lived in my village in Somerset. My brother and his used to get drunk together just to annoy our parents!

  • red box had a few hits didnt they as far as i remember

  • In Americaaaaaaaaa

  • it's should be on TOTP list :]

  • great track lets roll back the years guys and dolls

  • I was in a nightclub when this was released. Two groups of guys proceeded to smash up each other, then the nightclub, then chase the police. This song was on in the background as it was happening so whenever I hear it i burst out laughing. 'All this peace and understanding' :D

  • The album has reappeared on CD again! Support it!

  • Agreed:-)

  • @kevinkost83 too bad that the remastered CD doesn't include bazooka mix of the song.

  • I WANT THE ALBUM BUT ITS QUITE RARE!

  • just been rereleased in the uk under the cherry red records label

  • YANKS but no thanks

  • Haha! And 20 years laters...... Where is the great America now?!

  • You asking where? Everywhere. You listen to the American music, watch American movies, US Dollar is still one of the most important currency in the world, There is McDonald's everywhere around the world... etc.

    America is not dead yet...

  • I don't know if it was intentional. But keyword there dude... "Yet" xD

  • where's america now lol...

    all this peace and understanding!!!!

  • album is rereleased on cherryred records in the uk

  • Weren't the eighties great! hahahahaha

  • If this is what America meant to them then I hate to think what they think of America now. I think America changed a lot after the Nirvana grunge scene and the Clinton administration. Reality TV and hip hop music and Designer brand commercialism and celebrity driven culture has taken over the country.

  • My dad had one of the Circle and the Square Cd's, on of the few orginal ones here in Norway. And I managed to lose it:(

But I must say, awesome song. You gotta love the 80's! :D

  • They were told by the record company to make a US hit. They came up with this. Fan bloody tastic!!! Still love them though.

  • I was born in that year :)

  • ...my flat top hair cut never looked as good

  • Very catchy song one of my favourite song in the year 86.

  • the circle and the square...one one the most underestimated record of the 80's.

  • They wrote some very catchy melodies. I wonder what happened to them ? Are they still recording or writing for someone else ?

I wish people could write melodies today.

  • wonder wot red box think of america 20 odd years on?

  • do you know what they thought of the US in the first place lol

  • God i aint heard this for almost 15 years i should think. Brilliant.

  • im irish and i love america to bits .... greatest country on the planet

  • I'm somehow curious to hear the opinion of an American on this song, strictly from an aesthetic p.o.v. because there is something about the song itself(and partially the lyrics&the singing) which sound like something that's been inspired from the 1700s America! The part where you hear the Fiddle, also underlines my point well.I'm also a little curious to know if there are ppl from much younger generation than myself who are fond of this song as well?In any case this song is so damn UNIQUE imho.

  • I like this song and I'm 21.. I think it came out a year before I was born... but I'm american and honestly don't understand it to much it's like they're making us out to be superficial which I guess is kinda true compared to other countries

  • Haven't heard this song for years! What a blast from the past!! :)

  • i love 80's songs and this is another classic tune you just dont hear enough of

  • 'The Circle & The Square' is re-released on CD!

    Go Get It.....

  • Brilliant song,I love the 1980s.I wish I could go back in time like Marty McFly

  • And take mountains of cash to spend on records!

  • @joeycusack80 i have a delorean and 1.21 gigawatt

    just need a fluxcapacetor

  • America 4life!!!! Godbless america, also that I'm part dutch ;)

    Great song :D

  • LOVE IT!!!

Such a happy tune, makes me feel like i am 14 again!!

  • Happy tune, but the lyrics have an (intentionally) dark and cynical edge to them.

  • Well, yes.

    That's the point.

  • Pure 80's. So sad the generel public doesn't remember this classic.

  • CLASSIC #1

  • Jasis lads it's a pop song - why do you have to analyse everything!? Was a great tune from the late 80's as was lean on me...Up the Dubs!

  • wonderfull song!!!

  • dogs bollocks aaaaaaaaa

  • This is a staple of daytime radio in Poland. Excellent song.

  • COOL

  • And America have given the world what? (Apart from fast food, of course).

  • I thought the whole idea of this song was based on TOTAL sarcasm?!

  • <3 This is history :)

  • Pretty good. I really like it. It reminds me of my childhood, because my mum loved it, so I was listening to it non-stop ;]

  • a real memory classic hit from 87

  • dunno about greatest band on earth but certainly poppy. In fact, great songs but too poppy - no credibility as songwriters. Reminds me of Tears For Fears actually

  • That's fine; T4F WERE great songwriters.

  • Their songwriting and musicianship is sublime, and it's hilarious that you would compare them to TFF in a negative way.

Too poppy? Listen to VH's 5150 and then listen to Circle and the square and tell me which has dated more, and which has more ideas musically.

  • One of the greatest band on earth. Watch out for their new album in 2008!!

  • this was off the album hits 5 what a excellent song

  • What a blast fromj the past... I heard this on real radio scotland today and was shocked that I knew all the words, the kids think it is so un cool lol!!

  • Thanks for posting this :)

  • This is cool, but they had a b side remixed by Paul Oakenfold...under the name Solid Gold Easy Amex - "Enjoy"

  • Proof that not everything made it across the Atlantic back then.. lol

  • Does anyone know where I can find the music Mp3? I love this song....

  • Thank you for splendid music and memory!
