This version is not Stan Rogers, the accent is all wrong for him as well as the range. I'm fairly certain, just from the voices I don't have any proof, that this is the Dubliners.
love this song so much, and brings tears to my eyes when i hear it, being from there, and living so far away (middle east) there's no place like Nova Scotia, esp when you come from Cape Breton Island as I do :))
This is my favorite version of this song, love it, I finally found it on mp3......it is listed as being the Irish Descendants, and I've found that in a few places, so it must be them.......song makes me miss home, I'm thinking of getting a tattoo related to NS and the song..........
to get the MP3, go to beemp3.com and search it....
I too, was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Moved to Ontario 51 years ago, 'home' - Nova Scotia, is still in my blood, gotta be the sea and the people, nothing better or prettier. I still 'wanna go home' .. I guess that's not Anne Murry singing (??) 'tho she did a great job on it. Been coast to coast and still miss good ole Nova Scotia ...
Every time I go to N.S., I swear, it's a state in the U.S. itself. Go to Peggy's Cove, there's hardly anyone from anywhere else in Canada ('cept N.B., P.E.I. & N.L.). Look at all the plates, "New York", "Massachusetts", "New Jersey", "Maine", "Vermont", "New Hampshire"... Maine is not America's Vacationland, Nova Scotia is.
@Ian74263 Yeah a lot of tourists come here, that is a fact. there will be less from maine now though, with the cat ferry no longer running. but i guess they can always come through new brunswick.
can't someone find out who this is ? i'm from mahone bay and i love this tune and luckily i have a good version of this but still don't know who it is.
I miss Home a lot. These songs are bringing tears to my eyes. I miss everyone there.. Port Hood is my home Town but i guess anywhere on the Island is GREAT.
the white boaton the flats whith no tide around it was taken in Advocate harbour Nova scotia god bless her and i miss home i'm in the army and posted to edmonton ab
The pull of the sea. You don't understand what it is to be a Sailor. The sea is the Earth's life blood. We range the Earth's blood. Sailors have been "Green" before it was ever thought of. We don't give a damn about "Buzz Words". We do what is right!! Mama ocean knows. =Stefan=
It is not. Check it out for yourself. I am a fan and own most of Stan's stuff. He never recorded Farewell to Nova Scotia, and anyway that is most definitely not him singing. Stan's most famous N.S. connection songs are Barret's Privateers and Bluenose. And I am from Nova Scotia, Stan however was not. He spent summers with family there though.

I reckon that it's the Dubliners singing the song - that sounds a lot like Ronnie Drew's voice to me.
I also have very fond memories of NS - I spent two summers there almost 20 years back and loved the place.
