Are sun conures good pets? I want to get 1 but my sister says they are known to get very mean. And i don't want to spend that much on a bird that will just turn into a waste of money!

@56animallover Parrots have very strong personalities and require a LOT of attention. There's a lot to know about them so unless you're truly willing to make a lot of commitments and changes in your life to fit around them, think about a different type of pet. Also, they can be extremely LOUD so if you're not in a situation where you or your neighbors can tolerate it, don't get one.

If you can handle that for starters though, they are an absolute joy and wonder.

If they sit in thier cage all day long than you are right mattaki, but if you take them out of thier cage for most of the day how you should its under 200 dollars.

If its only 200 a year for vet checkups that is a very cheap avian vet !! And if they get sick and need extra vet trips it will cost more. Our birds are out of their cages heaps but we still spend more than $200 on the six of them on food alone ....

Don't buy, adopt...like dogs and cat there are hundreds of unwanted and abandoned birds out there.

i got a black capped conure and he's awsome, i taught a bunch of tricks but i want him to learn to talk...can't force him though, anyway i try talking to him and repeating words but nothing works. And if your buying a conure don't worry about the price cause they're worth it. Even though mine bites

unfortanutely, my sun conure um died yesturday because me and my mom went to flordia and my sister whos 18 had to take care of him and she said that he was fine before she fed him and went to work but when me and my mom got home there he(well i dont know if its a she or a he we never got him tested)was laying down at the bottom of the cage,dead.i dont even have any pictures of him and i cant ever see him again.right now im crying becuz he was my best friend.best of luck with your conures!!:(

Uhm.. If you are concerned about a bird's price I wouldn't even get a bird. No offense but if you are looking for a 'cheap parrot' you wont get one. Why do you want a Sun Conure? Because they are pretty? Sun Conures where I live range from 400-800 at breeders. Their cages cost at least 150-400 dollars. Not including the toys and vet costs. Think about your decision please.

Nothing wrong with that. It just makes me angry when people see a bird and the first thing they look at is the price tag. When I get a bird, I make sure I have the cage, all the toys, perches, harness, etc. and at least half of the birds cost in vet bills in my bank. People need to research first, that's all. So they at least know what they're getting themselves into. :\ It'll really help keep birds out of Rescues.

A birds's cage should be at minimum 1.5 times the wing span of the bird for him to be comfortable. My conure has the same cage size and I got him from a breeder with the recommendation for that cage. Her cage is fine.

The cage is 24" x 16.5" x 31.5" I know this is not big, but it is the one I could afford for now. He have enough space to open his wings. Also, I have many toys in it. With fewers toys, it would appear bigger. He's inside when we're not at home and when sleeping. Otherwise, he's always out.

About $300 from a breeder, and $600 from a pet store. You also have to factor in the the cost of a decent sized cage (honestly, the one in the video is on the small side), perches, toys, a lot of them, they get destroyed easily, food, and very expensive vet bills if it gets sick.

Don't forget that you have to clean up the mess everyday, remove perches and toys often to clean the cage, and move things around often so it doesn't get bored.

Birds are fun, but a lot of work too. Research, first!

Hi, I'm a vet tech and I work with parrots and parrot owners every day. That cage is perfect for a Sun Conure or similar sized parrot. Especially if the bird is allowed out of cage time. And, if you'll look closer, the cage's bar spacing is FAR too wide for parakeets, so no, the cage is not intended for use with Parakeets.
