this is known as a pot mod. and based off of what type of laser diode is in the laser the results could vary from INSTANTLY dead to. extremely short life but worked, and the flawless

very rarely a company will put a higher than spec diode in it and if heat disruption is good. you can bring it up to its driving wattage no problem! considering this was a wicked laser "core" laser they probably give you better than spec diodes for the money. keep this in mind when you mod your own lasers!

you are aware that you are just making class 4 lasers. Buy and look inside a class 4 laser to try to find easier ways in order to make class lasers that burn

You know that white light is all colors of light, so a white pigment reflects back all colors of light. Since black is NO colors of light, it absorbs all the light that hits it. @assiel11 a laser even as powerful as 1 watt may not be able to burn. the power does not have as much to do with burning as beam diameter. Adjustable focus is very helpful for this.
