I adore Aretha, she is unquestionably a legend and I have almost all her work. This is a beautiful song, yet........ When I compare this version to Gladys Knight's later interpretation in 1977, I have to conclude that Gladys's softer, subtler rendition is the more poignant. Normally, Aretha's soaring passion holds me immediately, but I think Gladys got it right with this one. Give Gladys a listen, and make up your own mind.
Thank you for this posting. I love this song and I've turned a few people on to this who didn't even know it existed. If you have the capability of sending the mp3 format, i would greatly appreciate it. I actually have this LP on wax but since this was my favorite song on the album, I played it to death and it now has that rice crispy sound affect.. My email is the name at the top @ yahoo. Thanx Again
Marlena Shaw Also Did A Version Of This Beautiful Song And Her's In My Opinion Is The Epitomy Of The Term "Sweet Soul" No Diss Towards Aretha's Version As I Like It As Well The Only Difference Between Marlena's And Aretha's Is That Aretha Took It To The Church While Marlena Took It The Candy Store (And In A Good Sweet Way!) Never The Less Props To Marlena & Aretha Long Live The Soul Queens!
Thank you!!!!!! I have been looking all over for this song! My dad had this album when I was a little girl- the song means a lot to me now.... This is the BEST version!
OMG!!!...This is WONDERFUL!!!!

Love this track and the track "You".
Unfortunately this album was sadly deleted many years ago, and hasn't reappeared on CD.
So come you record companies, we've waited long enough for this album to be reissued and remastered.
