@nick41324 We use a piece of software technology called a screen reader. There's JAWS for Windows, Window-Eyes, NVDA, System Access To Go, and on the Mac side there's VoiceOver, and on the Linux side (under the GNOME desktop environment) there's Orca, there's also Speakup.

YOu may need ot get into the forums, I can't remember what the command sequence is. However, you need to get into the Terminal, and get into the black list. You need to uncheck your Wireless card. Odds are that's what's happening, and will fix the problem.
ok well i have a usb wireless adaptor for my dell dimension 2400, that i got for 75 bucks its a 2ghz with 256 ram, however unfortunately the original hard drive died so I'm using another hard drive that i have to mount in the cd drive bay because its impossible to actually remove the original drive because its a dell, anyway i think it could probably do with more ram but im going to try and set this up as a computer to use . The wireless adaptor cost me 25 dollars and the screen was 15$ flat crt
Check the repositories. See if you can find drivers for that specific USB WiFi adapter. If not, check the Ubuntu forums, as well as Google. Type in "(name of adapter); Ubuntu Drivers" or something along those lines.
There is an awesome offer at ezlaptop (dot) com (slash) (question mark) r=841770 (use period instead of word dot and such) where all you have to do is read emails to get a free laptop.
I didn't say anything about virus protection software. I've been using vista for 3 years and 7 for 6 months or so without ever needing a virus protection program
OOORRR! You could say "Screw ebay" and build yourself an Intel ATOM based rig in mATX case for $200 but with new parts and no scammers.(because you would be buying from newegg or ncix or what have you)
It would totally smoke the Pentium II that someone on ebay would scam computer illiterate persons into buying for $200. :P
Despite what some might say, a 1.6Ghz atom with GMA950 will do the internet acces, IM, email, music, vid playback, etc that most average people need to do.
well with any windows version you will get viruses. i use AVAST and its free and so far i have ran the same OS install for about one and a half years with no infections.
so you dont have to pay anything for a good anti virus. most of those pay anti virus programs are bloated and are crap anyway.
and you need spybot S&D which is also free and will get rid of other malware you might pick up surfing the net.
i would not waste my time or money on vista. i will skip vista and go to Win 7
i got my laptop computer it's a medion windows xp from woolworth's for 200 pound's it was 1000 pound's anywhere else that's pretty cheap for a window's computer i miss woolworth:(
XP runs well on "low end" components. XP can run very well, with the most compatibility for the end user. Windows has more market share, so it of course has more viruses. If Linux was mainstream (In terms of PC's) then it would have more people writing viruses, that is just common sense. As for low end, a Pentium 133 is low end, the Aspire is not really considered "low end" considering it fills a certain niche in the market.
I recently tried installing Ubuntu through WUBI but I can't get it to be stable enough. It either eventually boots into "busybox" or it just hangs there. It is difficult to partition a drive from inside Windows as well....so a Linux user that uses/needs Windows for things is going to have to make the sacrifice and jump ship
Even if you got a virus on linux it would be so easy to remove it because you can access everything on your computer under linux. If the virus was so harsh that totally destroyed your OS; Linux is free so just re-install it.
For new users I would suggest Ubuntu Linux. The price of enterprise linux versions go to supporting the product they are usually selling a service to "add value" think of it as someone to blame. Linux itself is supported by the community and a bunch of companies that use there profits from enterprise distros to give back to linux by paying developers for there man hours on the kernel .
The reason Linux gets very little viruses is because the distros and the kernel have very intelligent on the ball developers who patch security issues very quickly and then give them to you for free :D

Windows vista doesn't get viruses if you're not a dumb shit that clicks every "free porn" link you see.

True but I remember reading something that said that the virus protection software cannot keep up with the amount of viruses at the moment.
