I admit I chuckled when I heard them use diversity as a selling point, then I started thinking. I work in the school district on and off. I bet in every school at least 30-40% of the students are ethnic or racial minorities. In some schools it's almost 50%. The adult population is very white, but not for long. Also KSU opened an office in China, resulting in about 1,000 undergrads from China. Between the natural change and K-State's work, Manhattan is becoming very diverse.
I hate growth the town is fine the way it is period!! With growth comes more crime and more poverty, why is it so important to have growth? Would you want to live in Topeka, Wichita or Kansas City. Maybe some folks would but that is what makes Manhattan so nice it is a wonderful small town.....uh it stinks dont move here!!
MsAida has no clue. I love people having to comment about things they know nothing about. With the University, Fort Riley and all the industry/scientific employers Manhattan is more diverse than people know...I live in Lawrence now... and the comparison is rediculous. Manhattan is just as (if not more so) diverse and tolerant. Educate yourself before you comment just to comment. If you can't say something nice....shut the H3ll up.
When over 85% of the population is white that is NOT diverse period. But yeah like that person said maybe compared to western kansas, the small town on Manhattan Kansas is considered "diverse"
This gives me the shivers as it really captures the feel of my home in the prairie. But then, I am a native Manhattanite (having lived in many other places besides) and the Flint Hills are my sacred place.
@theredhed510 How can you say that? I have neighbors on one side from The Congo, on the other side from China, and two houses down from Pakistan. All of these people work at KSU. My son has Chinese, African, African-American, Japanese, Caucasian, Indian, and Hispanic kids attending his school. Very diverse community.
This video speaks for itself… Manhattan and the Flint Hills Region offer some of the most beautiful scenes in America. With KSU and Fort Riley in our midst, we are the Heart of America. Welcome to “Manhappiness”!

LOL! Diverse as compared to what? Western Kansas? Manhattan has many things to offer, but diversity is not one of them. Otherwise, well done.
