Thanks for uploading this video! Here in Singapore these buses will be scrapped on the month of Feb. Some will is de registered..Thats a bad thing...but this vid make me cry! :)

This is a Mercedes 4WD gearbox, I think the Mercedes O405 never had a 3-speed gearbox, unlike it's predecessor, the Mercedes O305.

@MrFlavioValentino2 I have no idea what happened with the last two buses (nrs 4376 and 4377). Maybe someone else can answer that question.

But a lot the buses that were earlier withdrawn where sold to countries in Eastern Europe.

@DLoc567 oh yeah true I remenber in my Country Portugal, they got a few examples like those, they hardly change anything on the buses. but they good. Im thinkin of starting a bus company in Africa.

this O405 has a ZF HP500 with 4 gears: by 7-8 sec the gearbox get from gear 1hydraulic to the 1mechanic gear, at 10 sec the gearbox get in the 2. gear, at 13 sec in the 3. gear and at 21 sec in the 4 gear. listen again :-)

But then ZF boxes have a distinctive whoop when shifting onto 2nd or 3rd gear. Only W3E whine the way at the end.

You are right, I'm sure that this bus do not have a ZF gearbox because they indeed have that weird whoop and this bus haven't. I have a recording of an O405 (build 1991) with ZF gearbox. I will upload it soon.

I have a recording of an O405 with a 4 Speed ZF Gearbox that i will upload shortly. Sounds remarkably simmilar except for gearbox noise, as this one has a mercedes transmission not a ZF.

Btw this may not be the last if it's a W3E because Singapore has hell lots of W3E O405s in the SBS Transit fleet. SMRT fleet holds those ZF O405s with Hispano bodywork.

Its only a three speed, the reason it sounds like 4 is because 1st gear is made up of two parts, with a torque converter lockup half way, by the sound of the hubs id say this bus were made in about 1992 or there abouts, about the same time mercedes stopped production on their auto bus gearboxes

This bus was build in 1990. The buses that were delivered a few weeks/months later got a ZF gearbox.

Meanwhile this bus is out of the service.

I have also a sound recording from a O405 build in 1989. I think it has also a Mercedes gearbox but an older version of it. The howling tone is a bit lower comparing to this one. If you're interested I can put it on YouTube.
