I am an Indian fortunate to have watched Tendulkar from his very first match. Saw him grow from a young prodigy, to statistically the greatest batsman around (except perhaps Bradman and Hobbs). In the process he made whole of India believe they can win. However, I have to confess, at his best, Lara's highest notes were a shade better than Tendulkar's. Talent wise they're same, Tendulkar a little more tighter in technique; but Lara always sought to dictate terms -when it came off it was thrilling

Don Bradman is the greatest test batsman of all time - but for me, Brian Lara is behind him in second place, his nearest rival in the five day format. Stats alone don't tell the whole story of Lara - few batsmen have had to carry his team the way Lara did, year after year after year. What a wonderful, wonderful cricketer he was, an absolute joy to behold. There aren't many batsmen I'd call a genius, but Lara is one of them. This innings, + 375 + 400* says it all for me. He's a legend.

At the end of the day it is up to the individual as to who they preferred. I like Brain Lara more, not because I think he is better then Tendulkar but he was more exciting to watch.

Lara had reputation of leaving the ground when he got out, even not waiting for umpire's decisions. Sometimes he walked off the pitch when umpire did not nkow he was actually out. SRT never leave the ground until umpire decides so even he knows he was out. Sachin is one of the greediest cricketer ever lived. In this regard no one is close to him. How fitting it was Healey that dropped Lara. One of the biggest cheats in the history of cricket gave a reprive to one of the best batsmen in the history of cricket.

The bottom-line is that SRT did pull of such an inn. the 136 vs Pak. The thing is Healy dropped that sitter (and warne another caught and bowled) whereas Akram caught a much trickier swirling skier.

In my own lifetime, this was without a shadow of a doubt the greatest test match innings I have ever seen.
Lara in full flow = the most gorgeous sight in the game. What a wonderful, wonderful player he was.

Lara had reputation of leaving the ground when he got out, even not waiting for umpire's decisions. Sometimes he walked off the pitch when umpire did not nkow he was actually out. SRT never leave the ground until umpire decides so even he knows he was out. Sachin is one of the greediest cricketer ever lived. In this regard no one is close to him. All he wants is records.When he reaches 90, he become nervous and takes 20-25 deliveries to make it 100 while many players go for 6 and 4s.

In the 90s India played 39 matches away, and one 1! (yes you read that right - 1 out of 39)
West Indies played 40 matches away and won 11.

The bottom-line is that SRT did pull of such an inn. the 136 vs Pak. The thing is Healy dropped that sitter (and warne another caught and bowled) whereas Akram caught a much trickier swirling skier.
Otherwise- if not for those particular acts (BOTH of which were completely out of the control of the batsmen concerned)- you would be saying the exact same thing but about the 136 instead of the 153.
In any case ,in general,in 4th inn lara does even worse than SRT.
