"well I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned" - leonard cohen. From the comment's I see that, like myself, many people here were in Niles' shoes. Even if, as with me, it does not end happily, you still remember her, long after you've healed.On an unrelated topic, I just think that Niles would listen to Leonard Cohen - when he wasn't rockin' out to mozart, of course.
I know exactly what Niles is feeling...I fell for Devon at 1st sight but thought she was out-of-reach, even though I knew she was the love of my life. I let her drift away and now, 20 years later, I still carry her laughter in my heart and see her face in my dreams. Letting her go has been my biggest regret.
i was in the same position as niles, and i was so obsessed with this girl from a far, for 5 yrs now. but life changes and i got over her. But damn 10 yrs and he did nothing but admire her image and now hes in a real relationship with her. I bet he has no more interest in her, now that he fully knows her. but this is fictional.
I love this scene. So touching. And a little frightening, but I also love the scene after this one, where Niles and Daphne tell each other everything they hate about each other, and love it so much they rip each other's clothes off in the middle of the living room. Just because you only see a person's good qualities, doesn't mean those good qualities don't exist — it just means you'll have to remember to take the bad with the good.
@squeakysoul If it helps any, I recently was doing the same thing, up until a few months ago, for six years. That's actually why I posted this video, to show the person I had been in love with, to see if they were to ready to move forward with pursuing a relationship, finally, after I was no longer in one. They were not and they're dating someone else. But life goes on. We must not look back and be disappointed but just look forward and be excited by what may happen.
@Joyness333 Are you talking about the episode which mixes Kenny trying to have an affair with her falling on the floor and unable to get up? ("It took three Cranes to lift you!" -- Martin) If so, that is Episode 14 of Season 8. That was an awesome episode with so much stuff going on... was great, though.
I don't think that the fact niles didn't react to Daphne's weight gain is such a bad thing. If he is in love with her he's in love with her - end of story.
@summersunt I agree with you 100%. I guess it could work both ways (he's in love with her so he doesn't mind if she gains weight; or he has such grand fantasies of her that it clouds his true vision of her), but I really like how he still treats her the same, even when others are not happy with her appearance. When you have someone who loves you like that, you know you've made the right choice.
@summersunt - though it's not phrased as well as it could be, the problem as I perceive it isn't that Daphne gained weight, but that she gained weight as the result of compulsive behaviour stemming from her insecurity with how Niles perceived her as a 'goddess', and his denial of her weight gain just fed that compulsion. Had she gained deliberately and they both been happy with it, or had it had happened as a result of something other than compulsion, then Niles would be in the right.
i've been doing it for 13 years...

"you'll have wasted the last 7 years of your life chasing an illusion"
Sadly, I can very much relate to that. Thankfully it's not like that for Niles + Daphne, but they are fictional. I am not. :/

@summersunt But, and I think this is Frasier's point, what happens when that illusions shatters?

@jameister12345 "Daphne Returns" - Season 8 episode 16, as thefoxbox2 mentioned :).
Morty2264 2 years ago
actually it's from Season 8 episode 19 "Daphne returns" (not ep.16 as in the title), great episode!
