Nice review. I still don't know how to use even half of the features. The instructional manual is very vague. I have yet to be able to switch between the shutter mode and the aperture value as the manual says when I am in the correct mode. I have gotten way better owners manual with a cell phone and it actually explains how to use the thing. Anyway, I will keep looking for more instruction. The Olympus site has nothing more than what the cheesy manual says either.

I've had one for a year and yet I've learned things from this video

that I did not from the 96 page owners manual.

BTW- the manual's otherwise decent Index does not mention

"Quick Shutter mode" found on pages 37 -38...

A quicker single firing cycle time than normal.

The XD memory cards are it's biggest drawback.

I've done my research about the sp570 uz because I'm not going to blow 450 bucks on something that didn't work for me. I've seen a lot of people say that the zoom ring is unresponsive, jumpy, and laggy. Then I saw a couple of people saying there was some type of download that fixed it. I was just wondering how bad the problem is, and if it really was fixed, how well it works after the fix.

not a fan of this camera, unless its just me but i have it in automatic mode on full res in a dark area and bye the time it focuses and takes a picture i have already missed wat i wanted to photograph, pain in the ass

I loved this camera's features .. but it was frustrating as hell, as the lens's resolving capability just wasn't there & all the images were soft & didn't pick out fine detail ... it is also slow .... only just over 1fps continuous at full res.

Such a shame .. as the features are excellent!

I have this camera and definately recommend it !

It's a great all around camera with a great lense, my lense has not scratched yet and im the type of person who has scratches on everything !

It's a great little tough camera and definately takes better pictures than some of the SLR cameras !

It goes to like 646m thats huge with digital dslr it would cost u heaps. U got 13.5 frames! 100 6400 its just freaky this camera revoulotionise compact cameras

The grip is super awesome unless you have little girl hands and it is heavier than most which gives you more stability. I picked up the Panasonic DZ28 after holding this camera and it felt like a cheap piece of plastic (not that the 28 isn't cool, just too light imo).

this camera advantage is the super mega zoom shoots...the disadvantage is it's autofocus..damn slow. overall it's value for money cameras.

I think other advantages are the RAW option and hot shoe. But dang, for the money this camera costs, maybe it wouldn't be that bad of an idea to pay about $200 more for the two lens 510 kit.

Don't forget the Panasonic FZ18, Sony H50, Canon S5. And the Canon A650IS and SX100IS might be of interest to you as well. So many choices :)

and dont forget the panasonix fz 30 and fz50 they have only 12 optical zoom but they are goog and if you want more zoom you can buy a converter but the 20optical zoom of the olympus is very good i will buy it:-)

This images from the P80 are soft compared to the SP-570UZ ... Just check out Steve's Digicams, pull up reviews on both cameras in two separate tabs. goto the Sample images, & open up the two images from each cam of the zoomed in Building plaque. You'll see how lacking in detail the P80 is... & people critisize the SP-570??? Jeez!

Great video. I just bought one but I am still learning the functions. It would be great to see a video on how to use the settings. Example : How to get a detailed shot of a bird in flight. I tried but mine turns out blurry.

try making the shutter speed faster :)

try to take picture in sunlight and at fast shutter speed and set dial to shutter priority. if pic is under exposed or there is not enough light then use higher ISO but beware higher ISO degrades picture quality.
