  • Great sound!

  • realy nice playing......

think i will learn this as my next project.....

  • If there would be hard working man in every study in Life, who would present so much of precious research, things would be way more easier, ha ha ha...

  • Yeah man, you got it!! But it of course takes special person to simulate someone like Mr. Gilmour ! Just to be so soulful and play with such a feel is hard enough and I don't think you can learn that. That's personal quality that you obviously have. One has to be Tone freak and have very very good ear and be picky about equipment like what pedals to use and so on. You show on your webpage how every component, where it stands and how it's used plays huge role in achieving the right tone.

  • @checkie4ever Thanks a lot for your kind words!

  • 1.32, yeah!!! thats Gilmour style baby.. perfect tune, videos... You are a great help for the little ones trying to play like David.

  • @TheJFCDG

    Thank you!

  • aaaa!!!! so fucking good!!! you'r the best player in youtube!!!

  • Great job man!

  • Very clean , nice tone

  • Phenomenal tone

  • Great song and fabulous solo !!!!

  • @charlesportilho

    Thank you!

  • @charlesportilho i second that...its not only played right, its the feel AND the sound...

  • @Aliasaxxe73

    Thanks!

  • Hello Bjorn, Can I ask you for settings of BD-2 and CE-2, please? :) Thank you, Ondrej from Czech Republic =)

  • potresti dirmi dove hai preso la tab o hai fatto tutto ad orecchio...a dimenticavo very goooooood!::)

  • hey Bjorn, nice playing and tone! have you tried the basic audio tri-ram muff?

  • @tomiclav

    Nope.

  • nice try and good sound

  • Hi Bjorn, 1st of all congratulations for the Gilmourish site. 5 stars all the way.

I'm looking for a muff clone like the absolutely analog green russian or the jam pedals red muck. Did you get the chance of testing the red muck and how it compares?

    Thanks,

    LC.

  • @lfrc2006

Thank you! I've tried both the Green Russian and Red Muck but of all the Sovtek clones I prefer the Musket Fuzz from Blackout Effectors. Great tone and the additional controls makes it a very versatile Big Muff.

  • @BjornRiis Thanks a lot Bjorn!

  • @BjornRiis can you get david's wall sound with the musket?

  • what pick ups have you got on it ?

  • @brucecornell

Fender Custom Shop 69 neck and mid and Duncan SSL5 bridge.

  • Great tone and very well played, is that the gilmour signature strat ?

  • @brucecornell

Thanks! Nope. It's a 1996 Fender CIJ 50's reissue modified to death :)

  • The song is in the (key) of G.

  • thats awesome!! great job!

  • Not an easy job sounding like Gilmour, but you got it man! Awesome job!

  • @kedisy

  • Well done !

  • where did you get that beautiful stratocaster?

  • awesome playing!!

  • you are good, dude! write&play! you will rock, trust me)

  • a very under-rated pink floyd song, one of my favourites and nicely done :)

  • Excellent job Bjorn. Love that version!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • hey bjorn just did a video of this solo myself.. i played on my hiwatt custom 50 amp and got a great tone with my cornish fuzz.. all info i have about floyd gear i have from your site.. even the backing track i used.. thanks so much for having it!!

  • just updated my video.. new video with better video-quality so you can see m hands perfectly now :)

  • Is this a set of Fender CS69?

  • Yes. I've swapped the bridge with a Duncan SSL5 now.

  • Ok but in this video you are playing all CS69, right?

How do you like SSL-5 compared to CS69?

  • Yes this is all 69s. The SSL5 is basically the same pickup with a slightly higher output.

  • Sounds great!

  • You nailed it, good work

  • hey! do you like Blackstrat??congratulations nice sound and very nice performance

  • Hi, Bjorn Riis, you did a really great job, the solo is full of feelings, very close to the original. The DSoT version is in my humble opinion the best one of this song i know.

Also, your Gilmourish Website is a very great and helpful place, because it helped me a lot to find the sounds i searched for so long.

This video motivated me to learn this solo too, with the help from your video its a bit easier to find the right notes and positions!

  • Thank you!

  • How do you have the flanger set?

  • There's no flanger in this clip. I'm using a Boss CE2 chrous, depth and rate 11:00 (o'clock)

  • I saw EH Deluxe and didn't even look at the last part haha. No wonder I couldn't hear the flanger.

  • Very good indeed... But the DSOT version is a little bit longer, isn't it? Looks like that there is a part missing... in the end. but, like a said, vey good.

  • Wow! Amazing playing and phrasing. I think Gilmour would be really very impressed. Congratulations man! Great playing. Perhaps if you'd be kind enough to post some of the chords you hit in the solo.

  • Hi, Im from Argentina and I have two songs of Airbagsound, I thing your band is so so so good. Congratulations, I want to know more songs that I have but is dificult and expensive to find the new album. I love HomeSick, ITS PERFECT!!!!

    See you, and congratulations again.

  • can u give me some tips on setting a blues driver (stock)? i just got one and everytime i put it after the muff it sounds mushy and dark. if i put it before it sounds wonderful.

    settings?

  • Best solo ever.

  • Superb job man! An inspiration!

  • Man super awesome ! :)

Thanks a lot for the great site too

  • nice cover ;), are u using boss bd 2 as booster?

  • Yes. It's set clean with the volume at around 2:00.

  • Nice Job man =) I'm a humbucker fan myself but every time i hear some floyd it makes me wanna run out n bye a strat!

  • Get an HSS strat

  • Who wants to stay in just one world, I love them both for different reasons.

  • how clever is gilmore ! simple solo , but he makes it sound amazin . put together amazin .

  • Fantastic, Fabulous, Great Job.

  • Holy ****. Nice work. Keep it up. Beautiful. One of my favorite songs ever .

  • great job, man, as always. love your site as well. take a look at my version and let me know what you think. i could love her advice. peace.

  • WOW!! That was absolutely EPIC!! 10/10 sir, keep up the excellent work. :-D

  • Å fy faen, den satt bra!!! :D

Very good stuf man! Well done

  • Takk skal du ha!

  • holy shit..this is so PERFECT..way to go man!!..long live PINK FLOYD!!..by the way, is that the new David Gilmour Signature?..or a personally modified one?

  • Thanks! It's a modified Japenese 50's Classic with Fender CS69 and Duncan SSL5 pickups and a Callaham bridge/tremolo and lots of other stuff.

  • Just amazing! What a skills and tone!

  • awome gilmore tone

i must order one them trems

  • I guess your norwegian then :) Very nice played!

    Jævlig bra!

  • Takk skal du ha!

  • I just wanted to thank you for posting your videos. I enjoy watching them. They are simply amazing. It seems so easy to play like Mr. Gilmour does, but it is not. You are a great guitar player. Would you try to play "Marooned" some day for each and every Pink Floyd fan of us? I think that it would be a great experience, not only for you, but for us too. Have you ever thought about it? Do you agree guys? Greetings from Mexico, City

  • Nice Guitar Look Likes Gilmour Black Strat !

  • hi,

i am cooking for this tab could someone help me to get it just a link please i d like to learn it.thx

  • Bjorn, if you do not mind my asking , how old are you and how long have you been playing ? I ask because you are an inspiration. I am 54 and started playing only for one main reason and that is to try and capture this mans sound. I love P.Floyd and D.Gilmour is the best. and you are a close second. Have you ever met him. Keep on Rockin-Stay in Peace.

  • I'm 33 and I've been playing for about 15 years. Glad you enjoy my clips :) Never met him but I was lucky to see him live a couple of times in 2006. Good luck with your playing!

  • check out his website gilmourish [dot] com. it has info about pretty much everything youd need in order to sound like gilmour tone wise, not playing wise of course.

  • The best guitar solo in the history of music! Pink Floyd rules!

  • amaizing amaizing amaizing......

  • Man...........BRUTAL control, BRUTAL tone...the best i've ever seen untill today!!! Flawless!! And the black strat just blows my mind!!

    Congrats!! Just awesome!!

  • Hi Bjorn,

    Nicely done. Good job. Cheers!

    ChrisZ

  • nice playing!!

    check my version

  • Great performance as always. I have a question about those pickups as well as the SD SSL-5 pickups also associated with Gilmour; do these pickups distort well enough to give a good "pulse" or "delicate sound of thunder" EMG strat tone? Also, I've played mostly JB humbuckers all my life, could either of these pickups in a bridge position give me a big rock sound like the JB perhaps if matched to a proper distortion pedal?

  • I'm not familiar with the JBs so I'm no sure. Generally, I wouldn't use humbuckers for David's tones. The CS69s and SSL-5 can be a bit thin for the typical PULSE tones but you can add an EQ unit boosting the mids or simply get a classic Tube Screamer and you'd have a tone very close.

  • Thanks. I'm traditionally a humbucker guy using a JCM 2000, and I don't ordinarily play Gilmour; but now that I've add a Strat with SSS config, I'm finding myself wanting to maintain the big distortion of a JB or Super Distortion while chasing the purity and clarity of these two single coil pups.

  • Perfect as usual.

I recently purchased the EH Big Muff, and I'm planning to buy an overdrive or to combine with the Muff, which overdrive or would you recommend for the Muff?

  • Depends on what guitar/pickups and amp you're using. Generally speaking I'd go for a Tube Driver or Colorsound Power Boost for large clean tube amps and a Boss BD-2 or Tube Screamer on smaller setups.

  • Bjoorn man you need to distort your sound more. Remember in the DSOT era Gilmour used to play dirty sounding guitars almost heavy metal. Besides you should play more with harmonics for example at 0:17 David usually on those parts "drawn" the string so it sound like a pinch harmonic

  • Gotta love the Marshall 5210 :) great amp!

  • what is the setting in the muff?

  • Volume 60%, tone 40%, sustain/gain 70%.

  • fuck me ( not gay just impressed)

  • Yeah i visit your site regulaly and it is great. Thanks for the infos how to turn a classic 50´s into a black strat .Next year i will do.The father of my friend sells a mark 4 head for 500 euros i will buy it since i read you are using it for your tone too. Thanks for the great site and awesome playing.

  • pues ami no me gusto mucho . :(.

pero pues que bueno que teguste lamusica de david gilmour :) ,

    saludos desde mexico

  • Great sound and great Gilmourish site Bjorn!!

Just a question, I have Byoc triangle (the best imo)and BD-2Keeley, why the BD-2 is after the muff? Not before?

    Thanks

  • Try both setups and decide your self. I think it sounds better to have the overdrive/booster behind the distortion unit. This is also David's setup.

  • are you going to post your version of sorrow solo? looking forward!

  • That's the plan...

  • Nice guitar.Nice tone and playing.

  • Great Job. Nice tone and playing. I've also done some PF solos including the first half of this one.

  • haha you even have the Hendrix guitar strap! thats awesome, just like Mr.Gilmour himself

  • Check out jeridesigns(.)com.

  • DAMN!! Thats pretty good!

  • Superb work Bjorn!!

Thanks for the video(s), thanks for your website (wealth of infos, a must for any DG or Floyd fan) and, most of all, thanks for the inspiration.

    Keep rocking!

  • Thanks!

  • very good! Nice tone

  • Well done!

  • anyone know where i could buy one of these in the uk?

  • I envy your Green muff!

  • You played that great. Great tone also... 5 stars

  • great tone.

  • well done, you did one of my fav Floyd songs and Gilmour solos pure justice! keep up the great work

  • Hey Bjorn. Tell us what effects/amp/pickups you are using to get that sound because you're very close, sounds awesome. One of my fave solos as well. There is one you are missing as far as I can tell... what about Not Now John??? That is one of his best solos on that album, even though a very short one.

  • I would also love to know your pedal line up and amp. I can't believe how you nail DG's sound. I've been to your website many times (a beautiful thing, your site) but this is the best example of how all your hard work has paid off. Your sound is amazing and your playing fantastic.

  • Thanks a lot! The effects line up and amp is described in the info box on the top of the page.

  • Great job on your site and thanks for all the info.

I'd really like to hear your take on Cluster One from the Division Bell.

Your playing is awesome, I hope one day I get to your skill level.

  • Dammit Bjorn i have 52 years and i play guitar just ince 4 years and you are my idol hehe good job man.

Je suis vraiment épater par la justesse des solos

    Bravo

    Ram

  • Cheers Ram!

  • You sure about the tapping ? Wouldn't it be more Gilmour's style to play that lick normally at the 12th fret ? Or maybe even Dave tapped in the 80's LOL

  • It's tapping... well, actually he's using the pick rather than he's finger. You can see it on several clips from the 80's.

  • Sometimes Gilmour tapped on Another Brick solo on the 1994 tour.

  • Oh and I know that there was another accompanying lead guitarist, but I listened to one bootleg of Another Brick and it was still on Gilmour's part, so yeah he tapped :).

  • SUPER!!! SUPER!!! SUPER!!!

    The Best!

    ОФИГЕННО!!!

    Молодец! Сыгранно супер!

    Гилмор - велик!

  • Very good Mix of gears to get this Tone

  • Absolutely fantastic, Riis.

  • SUUUUUUPEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You are amazing!!!!!!

    the Best!

  • My favourite David Gilmour solo, played beautifully Bjorn.
