Okay, if one has to have a “happy ending” to Swan Lake, this is the production to love. At least there’s none of that silly business of Siegfried and Von Rothbart getting into a hair-pulling catfight and girly tussle that all ends ridiculously with the Prince lunging at Rothbart and ripping off his wing. He could have done that in the second act! Still, musically, choreographically and most of dramatically, a tragic ending with the double suicide of Odette and Siegfried still works the best.
