  • Congratulations on the beautiful presentation of this innovation in the means of communication! I am starting to save money! Maybe I can buy one at the end of the year or gain of Santa Claus rsrsrs Until then...

    Good contacts to all!

  • to late i just bought a beautiful used K2/100.

  • It will be mine. Oh yes... it will be mine! ^_^ I'll be buying one of these when they are available. Not been this excited about a new rig for years.

  • I'm surprised K9ZTV didn't have this baby at the last Bumble Bee Expedition! Looks like a nice rig.

  • Wow, this thing looks amazing! I was planning on scrounging up to get a K3 the end of this year, but I might have to order this with the 100W amp instead and keep the 817 on the shelf as the backup.

Any kind of o-rings or seals around the knobs and stuff on the front panel to help keep a bit of moisture out? I'm sure I could find other rubber plugs for sticking in the jacks on the side.

Just popped in my head, a small snap on cover over the front panel, kinda like on an o-scope to protect it.

  • 160-6m all mode! 32 Bit floating point DSP with 24 bit A/D -- A SDR with (apparently) smooth CW transmission on this new portable "trail friendly" radio!

Interesting that both the internal 8-AA Ni-MH internal battery pack and antenna tuner are optional. Anybody using this as a portable rig would surely want the power and ATU built-in.

Guess this is not a kit, which is probably a good thing for the level of sophistication and miniaturization.

  • WOW! What a cutting edge, full featured little transceiver! This is PERFECT for relaxing and DXing on my backyard patio connected to my Cushcraft MA6V that sits on a 5 foot mast in a large flowerpot filled with cement!

  • Size: Nice.

Shape: I guess it's hard to get away from Rectangles in this game.

    Power output: Win!

    Weight: Win!

LCD Display: Ultra-Win. Best in the business.

Oh dear. Ergonomics, anyone? How will it slip onto a backpack with those enormous knobs sticking out like that? Are those CW paddles hanging off the bottom?

Looking forward to seeing one actually deployed out on the trail. Keep up the awesome work, Elecraft!

  • @VK2BEN You can remove the paddle. And Elecraft will release a carry bag of sorts which will protect the front. (Source: The guy from the video, on the Yahoo group of the radio). Such an awesome radio. Will buy it when it's released!

  • @dofty Thanks. Yes, I guessed that would be possible after reading some more blogs etc about it. The carry bag is a fine idea, although it is hard to overlook the flaw that is the choice of gargantuan knobs. Nice to work with, but not so good for portability. Maybe someone will come out with a low-profile knob option one day. As I alluded to before; it has many winning features that should give the FT-817 a VERY good run for its money. I am putting in my order when it is available!

  • WANT!!

  • ....this is the object of (ham) desire !!!

Kudos for such FB of design

    Luis XE2B

  • New KX3 Yahoo Group /KX3

  • ver very nice I think it will be a popular radio

  • I about gone into cardiac arrest when i came across this video and it made my eyes bug out . I love this rig GOOD JOB AND WAY TO GO ELECRAFT YEAH

now thats what im talking about.

  • I want one.

    Maybe for Christmas... ;)

  • Awesome Wayne. Please show at Ham Com in Plano!

When will production begin and us Ham can get our hot little paws on one?

Once again Elecraft puts the world in a spin!

    W5DDW

  • Una vez más, Elecraft mete un gooooooooooooool! Looks like a winner.

  • Elecraft leads the way again. We are going to see lots more videos from the field! Great job guys!

  • Kommentaren har tagits bort

  • Pure Elecraft spirit. I was _just_ thinking about how cool an SDR with a "conventional" front panel would be. And there we go. :D

  • Looks like Elecraft hits it out of the park . . . again.

    Outstanding

  • I am starting to save now! Very, very nice Wayne. Nice addition to my Elecraft collection.

  • MSRP for this little gem?

  • @mstax They said under $800 (so I guess $795) + accessories

  • Very cool...

  • WOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just announced--not on the site yet.

  • I must be going blind... don't see this yet on the Elecraft website...

  • New Yahoo KX3 Usergroup /KX3

  • I foresee a drop in the used FT-817 market since there will be a boatload for sale once the KX3 hits the street.

    John, K2ZA

  • Maybe it's because my bloodtype is RF positive; but that is the coolest looking radio since the KWM-2.

    Tom, ak2b

  • Finding one on a hiking trail would be accepted as proof positive that we've been invaded by advanced civilizations from space... Frugal aliens, as the price is estimated to be about $800.

  • This is the kind of innovation that will help make America relevant again. Thank you for this great product. And the way of presenting it was splendid.

    Jonathan KC7FYS

  • @kc7fys Really? When did they become irrelevant? Plus, this is a very small market. Not going to make any difference. Besides all boards are made outside of the US. How relevant is that?

  • So, how much is one of these going to cost?

    Time to sell my 817?

  • Wow, really a pocket K3. How does Elecraft keep on managing to create radios I want the instant I see them?

  • DAYUM...that's a fine looking piece of HF.

  • Thanks for (finally) getting this demo viewable on YT!

Great job, and a VERY interesting product.
