Sarah Michelle Gellar Burger King Holiday Commercial 1982

Kind of funny how things work out. Lea Thompson and Elisabeth Shue went on to star with each other in BTF Parts One & Two. Several years later Thompson had a daughter named Zoey (Deutch) who is now also an actress. Zoey Deutch will be starring this fall in the series "Ringer" where she will portray Sarah Michelle Gellar's daughter.

It wasn't a lifetime ban, it was just until the case was settled. In fact burger king had her say "merry Christmas McDonald's" as a jab at them because McDonald's was taking them to court at the time. Ironically years later McDonald's was a sponsor for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

@tony14779 From what I remember I think the ban had something to with the fact that in one of the ads (one that isn't up on YT) Sarah mentioned that she ALWAYS ate at Burger King and NEVER at McDonalds. Therefore while the lawsuit was going on she had to live up to that claim because if she didn't it would give McDonalds some type of legal footing in the lawsuits that were flying back and forth at the time.

@RoadCone411 haha apparently when she was a little kid she was afraid she couldn't go to mcdonald's any more, then her mom said that there probably weren't any officials in the restaurants who were gonna kick her out. but man a lifetime ban would be harsh.

because sarah did a commercial for burger king before which contained stuff about mcdonalds. as a result she got house ban at mcdonalds

I was 17 in 1982, and that year Burger King and McDs were going at it. BK named McDs in their commercials. And with a cute girl, they were not happy about it and sued. BK AND Sarah were defendents. Settled out of court. That line wishing Merry Christmas was both a masterful PR spot and a cheap shot both BK and Sarah got to do... be the first to show Christmas spirit after that messy year.

This is because Sarah Michelle Geller was the first person in a commercial to openly attack the competing brand by name. Before 1982, commercials didn't mention the other brand, they just said "brand x" or "the other guys". Sarah Michelle Geller was the first to say "The Burger King Whopper is better than McDonald's Big Mac".
