Many thanks for giving us this one, it's made me buy the DVD even though I've seen the film many times on TV. One last thing, open a new window and double track this tune with a 15 second time lapse, eriee or what. Thanks again.
There is so much sadness yet beauty and hope in this song. I always think of an angel singing this as she looks down on earth, it never fails to make me cry. Truly a talented man to create such beautiful music.
I beleive director Leone had Morricone compose songs for each of the main charcters in the movie. Then he'd play the individual music for the actor/actress so that they got "in tune" with thier character. Even played it during the shooting of the film, so the actor could hear it. Very clever giving Bronson, Robard, Fonda and the beautiful Claudia Cardinelli (sp) their own theme song...this song: Jill's America was Claudia's. So very fitting.
this is heavenly music, could music be better than this, the movie was perfect, but the music is even more, the perfect music for the perfect movie, they can/t make them better than this one
ATarski......you are so right. I feel the same, some people say it's just music...........no...........it's missing someone.........loving someone.....being someone.
It's not "easy listening music" for me because I feel longing for somebody or something from listening to this masterpiece. It's something vague... and my eyes are wet.
é The Mission di Rolan Joffré
This is really the best part from the movie and the man with the harmonica. It is too bad the he is always associated with once upon a time in the west. This is also the best song by Ennio Morricone. he is almost just as good as Hans Zimmer
This music is sooo touching. Too bad it is a kind that is put in the past. Really too bad. I Love it, but then I watched the film about ten times too, and it is so sad.
I discovered this music in 1980, while living in Austin, Texas. That city, the surrounding Hill Country and those wonderful people I met helped me find my soul and my true Way. I am eternally grateful.
The vocalist in the original movie version of this song is Edda Dell'Orso. Her voice is featured in many other films, too. She's in in her 70's now, living in Rome.
this composion ,once upon time in the west, was up for 5 academy award nominations in 1968 for best music and wasnt picked ,what were they thinking? this is one of the most beautiful songs ever composed in our time .the academy awards in 2007 finally ,gave ennio morricone the award of honorary academy awardc for his magnificent contribution to the art of film and music ,the only composer of are time to ever recieve that award ,rightly deserved
lumberjavk. Yes i have to agree, why it wasn't picked is enbelievable, never will i hear another piece of music like this. i believe the singer is Susanna Rigacci
The Sweet Water scene in the films end, and the scene when Jill arrives at the farm and sees her whole family dead, are where this piece of music is used. Both scenes very touching, and moving. I was 19 years old, and home on leave from the service when I saw this movie. Over 30 years ago, and I have never forgotten that film and this music.
i agree totally . without a doubt one of the great movie ending scenes ever. jill ain't to bad on the eyes either. was jason robarts great in this movie or what .
This is the best, most moving music of any western movie. The voice calls to your Soul. It is sad in a beautiful way, and has haunted me from the first time I heard it in the movie. It will never grow old. The scene of the Sweet Water shooting aftermath (PLEASE add that video!) remains a true classic.
If you haven't viewed the movie, you really should. Ennio Morricone is a true master at wrapping you into a movie with his music. This piece is my favorite and I play it often. Hopefully it will be used in my funeral, as I've requested, to send me across the river in peace.
Oh, how I wish this would've continued on to include the music played while Jill McBane rode through the railroad construction site on her way to the farm. It's the same music, only the French horn plays the main melody, then the strings again before it finally ends. Sadly, I can't find that part anywhere on YouTube.
