If only the Amiga CD32 stayed in the competition to compete against the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn... It could have even competed against the more older consoles of that generation like the Atari Jaguar. :(
Wow...that's horrible. Escape From Monster Manor, on the 3DO, blows this away!!! I ended up buying the 3DO, after demo'ing one only a few days before first seeing the cd32. I REALLY wanted to like the cd32 since, I already owned an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 3000. This system here just really was a clunky turd, even in the time of it's release. As I said, I ended up buying the 3DO and, it was/is a superior system compared to this. At least the games were...
There was a game for amiga where you have to kill zombies that appear on or behind a wall and make funny Noises. My Friend says its just called " zombie " , but i cant find it
Why is it so slow? The CD32 is basically an A1200 sans the keyboard. It should be more than capable of running any Doom-like game at acceptable frame rates.
And thats what the problem is, CD32 is a basic A1200 (except for akiko chip) ahd thus it can't do pretty much especially without fastram and what do you expected from 14MHz CPU?
lol how could they release a game like that and say it is acceptable frame rate, it looks unplayable. poor old cd32. it did have brilliant fmv though compared to mega cd.
oh I just read thats full screen mode. but so what, its a 32bit machine, it should be less laggy than that!
@bigmanpigman07 In this case it's not about the number of bits, but about graphics modes. The CD32 was effectively an Amiga computer without a keyboard, and the Amigas were notorious for using planar graphic modes, which allowed fast scrolling, but were totally inadequate to represent a 3D environment.
This should never have been released. How can they get away with releasing a crippled game, in terms of speed? CD32 should have just had games designed solely for its processing capabilities. The CD32 was just a A1200 without a keyboard at any rate
@meowmmmmm I was about to say the same thing but i sen that post was over a year old, and that you replied the same thing i was going to say. Really the Jag was a all around better system then the Amiga CD32.
arr ich werd heut noch bös wenn ichs sehe, ich habs mir damals gekauft für 70 takken oder so und es lief auf meinem neuen 1200er net weil die escom schweine schipanuzische billig laufwerke verbaut haben drecksäcke
Both, but hardware more so. The clock speed of an Amiga cd32 was 14Mhz. today's average computer runs at about 1500-2000Mhz. Also this did not have a 3d graphics card. If you wanted 3d, you could only use software.
It was games like this that encouraged the development of better 3d handling by computers. This gaming platform had a quick death with the introduction of the PSX (Original Playstation 1).

The game isn't bad at all. It kinda reminds me of some of the Doom wads I've played, like BioWar.

Sure its slow, but not unplayably so. It would have been awesomes with some CD audio

So, is this game really taking advantage of the CD32 hardware, or is it a port of game for the older AMIGAS, to which they added some extras?
saturndual32 2 years ago
that game was shit.
Totally unplayable, slowest ever.
GLOOM was much more better, no matter if in Gloom there aren't different height levels.

compared to this even doom on the snes looks great

Yuck, if that's the kinda gameplay it had, I'm so glad I didn't go with the miggy for a game console.

If they had put in just 1mb of FAST RAM on the motherboard it would have doubled the speed of games like this!! Stupid C= run by that twat Medhi Ali.
MadCommodore 2 years ago
It's a long time since I've heard Medhi Ali's name mentioned in reference to the Amiga.
That guy has so much to answer for.
Bled the Amiga dry, then took all the money and ran.

@bigmanpigman07
I played it on my A4000D with a 030 @ 25MHz and it was really smooth. Didn't think that it would be slower on a CD32 or an vanilla A1200 :-(

castle wolfstein on the pc from 1992 is much more better
StrikeFreedom986 3 years ago
Wolfenstein isn't a true 3d game actually, there are no height levels; this is comparable to Doom.
But yeah it's crap...

I swear this ran full speed on my 1200 ?!? and all that had was a memory upgrade.
The level editor on this game was the shizzle!
mephisto40 3 years ago
Even adding 68882 FPU and 8 megs of FAST RAM gave it a reasonable speed-up.

FastRAM was the key !! The a1200 and amigaCD32 share the same hardware, both with 2Mb of "chipRAM", add some fastRAM and you get twice the speed !
Too bad Commodore didn't included that by default :/
OOverflowW 3 years ago
+1
28 mhz 668020 and 2 mb fastram, and the CD32 was a lot better
the 2nd problem of this console is that editors haven't make real AGA games. mostly are just A500 version on CD :(

This was fantastic as you could build your own levels with a very easy programme. I still have it too. Might have to dust it off.

Agreed. I wish there were more editors like that one.
Most level editors in new games have a horrible thing in common... you need to learn, need to think.... I just want to play around :(

add some fastram, or a 030 cpu and it runs like a dream. One of my favorite doom clones for the amiga

@katalogmonet Add a 28.6 MHz crystal and a cpu fan and it will run much better for little money.
