  • I intend to direct my Latin students to these videos. They are great! We have photos of them in Book 3 of the Cambridge Latin course.

  • The way Centurions wear their crests are badass.. looks cooler than then how the generals would have wore them. :)

  • What does mean ermine street guard. Why this name ?

  • awesome

the spikes were scary and just imagine how many Celts and Germans were impaled on those

  • Celts and Germans had trowing spears as well.

  • This is a very good group. I am a member of LXF (Legion X Fretensis) in the United States and look up to this group.

  • this is a bad ass group and a bad ass documentary.

  • it's always funny to me to see saxons playing romans

  • @praetorianus72 thats easy to say but hard to swallow ! look like celts and saxons to me! DNA test???

  • @histatimaniples It would be interesting, but I don't thing a DNA test can define the percentage of latin blood in the british blood.

The english language has absorbed a high percentage of latin words, the latins presents on the island in this period have been absorbed too

  • @praetorianus72 More than have the English words are directly from Latin. Overall more than 3/4 of English is from Greek and Latin.

  • @praetorianus72 Not neccessarily as there were Germans, Gauls, Greeks in the Roman army. By the first century there were soldiers from all parts of the Roman empire.

  • @irishxxkelt Romans were as good as they were condemned. I know that there were soldiers from all parts of the empire, the presence of some non-italic in the roman legions was certainly one of the cause of the fall of Rome, later.

  • @praetorianus72 Yes there were revolts by former allies and the most famous mutineer was Spartacus.

  • this is a good larping group

  • Isn't Larping, is Reenactment, with real armour and weapons just for showing off.

  • This is a great mix of the Roman history as well as documenting re-enactment groups! I miss Housesteads and the rest of the Wall... =) Looks like it was a beautiful day that day of filming!

  • Thank-you so much. I was there on 1st September 2002, which happily was a very sunny weekend.

  • excellent

  • I am a member of the Guard and this is quite good, a lot better than the usual Gladiator soundtracked cloak and sandal drivel we normally get! I look forward to the next episode and hopefully I'm in it!!!!

    Freddie

  • Thank-you. My hope was that members of the Guard would like it, and feel well-represented, so I am very I'm pleased (and relieved!) by your comments.

  • @furryfreddie I'm part of the Guard too ;)
