Thiokol Corporation and Lockheed Martin FAILED us with Shuttle. So why we are dealing with the same contractors with SLS is a total slap in the face to all people who care about progress.
If you buy a car and it ends up costing over 20 time what the dealer told it would cost and blows up 1/65 times you use it, are you going to buy from the same car company? If you did, you would be stupid. So why do we do it? Campaign contributions by the above contractors.
ITs amazing to hear the public front vs. what is said behind "closed doors". The SLS is the 21st century version of the "90 day report". Too expensive so it will fail at the door.
why the hell use SRM? because people will lose their job? and a overdue overbuget capsule? Just contract SpaceX to do this!, we will have the rocket 3 times cheaper and two times faster! And another point...I thought space exploration is for exploring space not creating jobs.
@thewebmaster93 FUCK space X, those things are dangerous pieces of shit. I've seen the demo vids, that's why they are cheap, to many fucking failures.
Big? Maybe bigger distances and bigger fuel consumption. Still same old tech. Boeing conducted some high voltage experiments and could lose gravity on objects but you guys still rocking rockets.
@Matu1 We hear you. Many readers are disappointed that emphasis on science, private commercial development and technological innovation has apparently taken a smaller role.
@Matu1 No link that we know of. This is a large, public, jobs-oriented, Congressionally mandated project. It will succeed or fail in full public view. It is based on 40 year-old technologies, so we doubt there could be any worthwhile spy stuff involved at all.
Lets get the hell out of Afghanistan and Iraq and use some of that money to get our space program going again. We have plenty of money for wars, tax cuts for billionaires and bank bailouts but never seem to have the money for science and exploration. I mean it'll be 50 years after the Saturn V put man on the moon that thing rocket will be ready. To go that long and not have something better or more powerful would be a shame.
I don't understand.. SpaceX is bringing out its super cost effective heavy launch vehicle in couple of years and NASA decides to start developing its own?
I agree. The SLS is a pointless endevour. There are many disposable heavy launch systems in development or able to be put on the drawing board if requested. NASA does not need to build a heavy system. Every launch company around today should be capable of that. What they need to focus on is making true reusable technoligies feasable. Even if its just a flyback booster piggybacking up a 2nd stage, its still an advancement.
Yeah like comet ELEnin? I GOT NEWS FOR YOU, U WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DESTROY COMET CX/2010 X1... Its a Celestial object under INTELLIGENT control, it's YESHUA (TIP OF THE PYRAMID) the new ARK. Are you READY??
@bridaks, you act as if the entire ship is it's propulsion system, ignoring all other new technology. Also electromagnetic wouldn't be powerful enough to create the needed acceleration. Unless you want the people to get old using it. Surprised you got any thumbs up.
@oceanstars77 Friend there are many many experts who are in the know and have confirmed the fact that Dark projects in the USA do in fact possess technologies 50 years ahead of anything we are allowed to see at this point in time. Officials say that those technologies would completely destroy the current oil based economy and so therefore it is kept secret from the mass.
All i am saying is another huge rocket is far from being new or ground breaking..please...Be open minded :) Much love !

Man, I wish I got 3 billion a year to squander in an attempt to go meet space aliens...
Now is not the time to be building "monster" anything....
Is the government and NASA so out of touch with the current global economy.. that blowing 3 billion a year... is cheap and saving money?

Doesn't make any sense.
Are they just trying to create jobs?

Quit re-branding Shuttle parts! It still Sux! Falcon X is so much better than this at a fraction of the cost.

Still using fuel as propellant? Humans have not advanced at all as far as propulsion technologies in the past 60 years? Really? :)
It is sad that the new technologies in the electromagnetic realm is still not used after all this time. NASA is such a disappointing to me.
Much Love to all.
