In order to produce milk, cows need to be pregnant. That's why farmers will put hormones in cows, to make the cow's body believe it's pregnant, thus producing milk.

Not every milk farm do this. I go to Whole Foods or some Organic free ranged places to buy my meats, milk, eggs, etc.. The people who do this kind of stuff to animals will have a special place in hell.

I always wanted to go organic, but I was a bit stuck in limbo using milk that had higher standards & only used healthy cows and were not brutal or injurious to them, but still in a factory farm setting. I saw a clip of a terrified baby cow being brutally beaten & totrtured & that hit home & had me go organic with milk & eggs & I found the place for meat.
Every category of people has members in it that exaggerate...but unfortunately the animal cruelty aspect is not at all exaggerated; it's under-reported & is happening to probably 90% of our farms. (90% of the meat & dairy industry is industrialized, so I'm taking it for granted that they're being mistreated.) I drink my milk, but I went all the way organic. I used to buy higher standard milk from only healthy animals, but they were still in a factory farm environment.

Tail-ripping from the cows was enough to convince me,but this isn't even the tip of the iceberg.There's horn-ripping, ear-ripping, emotional abuse for the calves,which includes separating them from their moms the instant they're born & makin them run to their cages to spend in isolation for the next few months, & killing them with plenty of bangs & kicks with hammers & other lovely devices.

In other words, instead of $2.50 I spend $5.00, but if I skip a cheese danish or a large cupcake, I save $2.50. It's a small sacrifice & I know I'm consuming milk from a cow that wasn't tortured every moment of its life.

If the rest of the world ate like America we would need the equivalent of four earths to sustain the population. Problem being that I don't necessarily live in the nicest part of town and have very limited access to organic anything. The switch to a plant based diet was difficult, but I've lost weight and honestly feel a little better. I understand it's not for everyone!

I don't hold out that much hope either, since these corporations control our country & have our government firmly in their pockets. @santaclausiscomin- You make a very valid point, both modern animal raising and plant processing have become ridiculous. If the rest of the world ate like America we would need the equivalent of four earths to sustain the population. Problem being that I don't necessarily live in the nicest part of town and have very limited access to organic anything. The switch to a plant based diet was difficult, but I've lost weight and honestly feel a little better. I understand it's not for everyone!

Thats messed up, my grandpa had is own farm and cattle and the way he got milk was just putting a bucket underneath the cow and squeezing the utters while the cow ate. There was no pain or cruelty going on. Why cant they do it like that?
