  • NTG-2 is wayyy better

  • thanks for the video.

  • LOL. funny. but helpful. thx

  • I own both mics and the Rode NTG-2 definitely sounds better. I only use the Sennheiser wireless for weddings or if the frame doesn't allow for a boom to be close to the subject.

  • Gotcha. I'm coming from more of an event/documentary standpoint where wired mics are where it's at. I can't stand when I'm at the rare press junket and camera crews are interviewing with wireless lavs. WHY??!?!?!

I understand the aesthetic of a wireless handheld but wireless lav interviewing when the camera is 5 feet away is stupid for quality reasons and battery saving reasons. But I digress!

  • Thanks for this video. I too prefer a boom mic over a lav however the test is flawed.

Assuming the shotgun mic is wired, a wired mic will always sound better than a mid-priced wireless. Think corded phone vs. cell phone voice quality. Same principle.

The stock lav in the G2 kit is not high end. An MKE-2 Gold or Sanken COS-11 would be a fairer comparison.

    3. A mic hidden under clothes will naturally have its treble range cut. Should've clipped it to the outsie.

  • As with every piece of information it needs to be put in the context of ones shooting style. If you shoot lots of docs and interviews then by any means put the mic outside, for me it just happens that i end up shooting lots of narratives thus i needed to see how those two stack-up in MY shooting conditions.
