Amazing. We lived about 6 miles from their home in Hendersonville, TN. My wife worked at the local JoAnn craft store and June would come in and shop every now and then. She was such a nice lady with true class.

I fear we are fast losing our heritage.

She's saying that she likes singing this song; but the only problem is that the song doesn't have any kind of pause for breath (hence the no swallerin' place). And she can do a lot of crazy things (like kiss, or talk with Cracker Jacks in her mouth) but the song's too hard for her to sing. It's just trying to be silly and ironic.

I feel pretty much the same. However, I always liked the Carter Family; especially so once I learned that Old man Carter, A.P., apparently didn't have a racist bone in his body. His early partner, and a big influence on the Carter's (especially Mother Maybelle's) music was a black man named Esley Riddle. And, that was at a time when it wasn't legal for a black man and a white man to shake hands in the south.

Close your eyes. June here sounds remarkably like Elly May out of the Beverly Hillbillies, which came along later. So this is where Elly (actress Donna Douglas) - or was it her producer - plagiarised her TV show accent from ! No doubt about it - young June sure was a mighty perty, perky country gal - as this footage demonstrates so well. Johnny Cash sure was a very lucky man to persist in courting her and eventually winning her heart. Great footage !! Thank You MegasaurusRex 101 !!
